I'm sure most of you already knew this (especially since these things are all over certain states and have had signs for the past few months about going out of business), but the big chain music/DVD store is shutting its doors and it's in its final days.

(For the Long Beach/Paramount members, the WOW! store on 2nd and PCH is on its last week, the one of South and Palo Verde, near my house, is on its last 3 days).

I hit a couple of them over the past day or two and raked in what I could find out of the remaining crap. Seriously, the stores have been completely raped of what would be considered good. VERY little metal, a lot of bad indie and emo, TONS of no name rappers.

All of the CDs for bands I love were gone, but I did find a few for bands I like.

The haul:
Evergrey -- Monday Morning Apocalypse
Fountains of Wayne -- Welcome Interstate Managers (Just for "Stacy's Mom")
Scotch Greens -- Professional
Strapping Young Ladd -- The New Black
Nightwish -- Once
Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation -- Mighty Rearranger
Stephen Lynch -- Live at the El Rey
Corvus Corax -- Best of... (I liked the cover)
Rogue's Gallery -- Sea shanties
Mon Frer -- Real Vampires
Jeff Walker und Die Fluffers -- Welcome to Carcass Cuntry
A bunch of random oldies and folk CDs for my parents.

The total: $38. 23

Most of these were opening bands for bands I'd gone to see (Scotch Greens for Flogging Molly, Strapping Young Ladd for Fear Factory, Evergrey for Children of Bodom and Iced Earth, etc).

To any of you who go, happy hunting.

I'm surprised that you found a Nightwish CD... and a good one too. I couldn't find anything good last time I went there.

Brandon and I went back a day later to the WOW! store and found the place completely ransacked of anything that could be construed as good. Even the most inane things that you'd think no one would buy were gone.

I'd thought about buying one of the Borg Captain Picard figures they had for sale the day before (since there were SOOOO MANY of them), and the next day all that was left were the highly unpopular Governor Worf dolls. Weird.

Oddly enough the website's still going, as though they aren't closing. Maybe they're going completely online?

Possibly... hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Of course, it seems that online stores are what put them out of business in the first place.

We have like...a buttload of Tower Records stores in center city, let alone the rest of the city, so I somehow managed to get in before all the good stuff was taken. DId most of my Christmas shopping at the various dying stores. So...is there anything that will be replacing Tower?

Depends on the location. The chain was bought up by some guy who purchased it just to liquidate it and destroy Tower all together.

The one I've been referring to as the WOW! store (has a giant sign over it that reads WOW! because it used to be a combination Tower Records and Good Guys electronics, and then when Good Guys went out of business, it became a CompUSA) will be turning into a Walgreen's Pharmacy--making it a Walgreen's/CompUSA.
