This has been out for a little while and has been picked up by IFC.

I like it... a lot. Before it had come out, I had gotten a freebie DVD at a convention last year that had the first two episodes on it. I pretty much fell for it pretty hard.

It's an anime recreation of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 classic Seven Samurai which was paid homage to with the 1960 western The Magnificent Seven.

Pretty much, the original heart is still there, but the story takes place in a modern, yet simpler time. A band of samurai come together to save oppressed farmers from modern war machines called Bandits (I'm not sure if it's people they're fighting or just machines, since I haven't seen that far into the series).

Every time I try to catch an episode, since I don't have cable or satellite, it's usually at a con and they show everything out of synch so it's usually some random episode from the middle.

Altogether, I'd say it's a great watch. Anyone have any opinions on it?

I got a preview of three episodes. It started off real slow for me. But I knew, Jesus had a sword in that one. I saw some cosplayers of S7 at AWA for competition. It must've been awesome for them.

I've seen about half the series, when I was also pretty into Champloo. From what I've heard though the the second half of the series dwindles a bit and the plot just kind of falls into peices, but that's just from what I've heard.

I remember the action was really awesome, but I don't want to spoil anything.

I have the complete series, and Compared to The Seven Samurai I think its a decently accurate interpertation. I own The seven samurai too and its one of my favorite films of all time simply because of the characters. The anime basically takes the characters and puts their stories more in depth and adds some new plots. Some people may not agree but i liked it alot. I still prefer the movie overall but the anime is very entertaining, i wish they would have stuck more to the original story though.
