Okay, honestly, someone please explain to me why this show is supposedly "one of the greatest shows of our time."

I've seen a few minutes of episodes here and there, but I still can't understand why geeks are going nuts for it.

At Comic-Con this past weekend, a few of the actors made an appearance and so many people were mobbing the booth to get a glimpse of them. After inquiring from someone as to who these people were and receiving an answer, I just said, "You mean they're from Gilligan's Island on drama steroids? Who cares?" and walked away after making a mix of people either very pissed or laugh their asses off.

I read into the origin of the series and saw that the creator simply watched Tom Hanks' Cast Away and expanded it for a group of people.

Can anyone, especially any of the fans here on the board, tell me why there's such a draw for non-reality Survivor?

Rogue, watch a few episodes. Seriously, you might understand it a bit more.

I know I've never made a thread about this series, or even talked about it, but truth be told I am a fan. I do like this show quite a bit. I've never really got "hooked" into any TV series, like 24 or anything, but my friend bought the first season to this show and we watched several episodes in a day, and we were all hooked.

One thing I really like is the production quality. This show, looks like it could pass for a good movie at times. The special effects, music, acting, and everything is very very high quality, and blows most other TV shows I've seen and heard about out of the water.

Although its a little goofy that everyone who survived the plane crash has such a huge backstory, and horrible past (usually), its very interesting and it gets you drawn to the characters. The character development in this show is huge. You'll easily pick your favorites, and pick your enemies.

I can't really explain it Rogue, its just something else. I really wouldn't compare this show to any other regular TV series out there, and definitely not Survivor.

All I can say is that I like it a lot myself. I've seen a little over half the first season, and I enjoy watching it with friends.

Just check out a few episodes.

LOST is a great show. I whipped through the first 2 seasons in 3 weeks. At first, it may seem like a Giligan's Island drama, but it is much more. You have to watch a little, to get to know the characters, and the secrets of the island.

And Xeo, it isn't goofy that they all have deep backstories, because it is implied that the island chose them to be there.

All in all, it takes time to get into the show...

I really have no idea myself... other than the usual "he/she is SO hot" thing. I've watched a few episodes, and it is entertaining but I don't see why people act like they do about it.

Of course there are those types of people, you know what I mean Rogue, who get obsessive over a show until the next popular one comes out. So annoying.

Well, I guess I just enjoy it then.

Yes, I think some of the female characters are great looking but that's not my reason for watching.

And like I said, I do not get into TV shows. This is one exception. Maybe I just enjoy watching it with friends? Who knows. (So I'm basically not someone who's out there watching this because of the hype).

But that's me.

I dunno, perhaps I'm being unfair. I often have to take some fandoms very delicately because often the smallest things can ruin them for me (i.e. poser fans who suddenly argue that they are bigger fans than you, the market being flooded with interest in it, etc).

I think because so many people have been bringing it up when it isn't necessary is one of the reasons why I haven't really given it a chance. Example: Went to a panel with Bruce Campbell speaking. Someone stood up and shouted, "So, Bruce, when are you going to guest on LOST?!"

Or at a Kevin Smith panel at another con: "Hey, Kevin, what do you think of LOST and when are you going to guest on it?"

Where the hell does it come from? I don't run around asking my idols, "So when are you going to guest on My Name is Earl?" or "Why don't you get Adam and Jamie to let you host an episode of Mythbusters?"

I don't watch much television and when a show catches my eye, I do try to make an effort to see an episode here or there, but this LOST phenomenon is just a completely different creature. After discussing it with Zoso, he mentioned that it's one of those shows that you have to watch every episode, in order, so that it all makes sense. His mom watches it once in a while, but she's a HUGE fan of 24.

I guess that's why I just can't get into it. As I said, I don't watch TV so much so (matter of fact, I hate sitting around watching TV and feel like I need to get out all the time) and most shows I like are ones you don't need to watch in order or have stories comprised in a whole episode.

Then again, I'm also not a fan of drama.
