I am now listening to "The Very Beast Of: Dio" and am being blown into pieces.

Absolutely incredible. Think Iron Maiden / Judas Priest with some Malmsteen blended into it. Really awesome. I plan on checking out Rainbow now ... (since I hear they have connections).

Edit: After listening to 10 or so tracks, I have to say they're like an early Edguy. Freaking awesome.

Yeah, Dio is really kickin'. I also believe Rainbow is in a sense, almost the same band. A few of the same members were in it, and they had the same vocalist I believe (Rainbow came first, then Dio. Before both was Black Sabbath).

And yeah. I remember reading once about how Luca Turilli does his solo's, it was interesting. He uses arpeggio's a lot and use the strings like a classical strings instrument, I'm pretty sure he hardly ever shreds (like rapid stuff).

Side Note: I like reading this on the back of the Luca Turilli albums: All music, songs, lyrics, classic intermezzi, and vocal lines composed by Luca Turilli - Orchestral arrangements by Luca Turilli

...

He's kind of crazy.

BUT. I have to say Sajin, my friend got a copy of Luca's latest solo album, that finised off the trilogy. "The Infinite Wonders of Creation", I have to honestly say I wasn't very impressed. There are dozens of times where there's a female vocalists also, and I'm not being sexist or anything and not saying female vocals are bad, I just don't think they sound very good with Luca's stuff. Also, it came with the demo of his next solo project, Dreamquest. The style is ... its just weird, it doesn't feel like Luca anymore. Its almost as if he's getting a little less epic, and going a little grunge-like and nu. I don't know, if you can try to get your hands on the Dreamquest demo and see for yourself, I'm really not sure what to expect from his future stuff. I also believe there's a female vocalist -all- of the time for Dreamquest.

OOT: When did you get such a kick ass layout?

BIT:

I have to say that alot of the new/ Nu stuff nowadays are kindof....I dunno...Its not like the origionals like you said. Like InFlames for example, I liked them better back in 1997, same with Demons and Wizards, they sounded so much better back in the day.

Alot of the new stuff nowadays I grade harshly...Only new band I come to like and enjoy is Wintersun.

And Luca Turilli having a female vocalist is somewhat strange, new, and weird.

Seems alot of bands nowadays are trying out something new.

God has Blessed me

TImeless freaking miracle ( Yeah I pulled a you Xeo )

Power Folk Metal...all I have to say is...wow...Into the Enchanted Chaimber reminds me sooo much of Blind Guardian in a way....Speaking of Blind Guardian....

I went ahead and spent a shitload of money on all of the CD's i could catch. Their newest CD comes out September on my Birthday...Cant wait, and what an ultimate birthday that will be....( Another Holy War is a great song, as well as "The Bard's song, I have their video live )

Xeo, Ever heard of Dark Moor? EXCELLENT!!!! Youll like them!

If you like Rhapsody or Symphonic folk metal, you will like them.

Their old stuff has a female vocalist with male choiors, but their newest albulm has a male vocalist...Its still great.

Sonata Arctica....Another great band that Xeo would approve

Slayed a dragon to get my hands on "Dreamland Manor" albulm by Savage Circus....Excellent power Metal

Lost Horizion is leet. Another great Symphony metal band that I do declare is excellent....

There, Happy Xeo? See what you done? You got me Hooked on this awesome music.......

Oh yeah, and before I end this post, I would like to say 2 things.....

Best Dragonforce Song ever...

Follow these steps

1- Click THis link

2- Download

3- Hit play

4- Hold on to your nuts because its gonna be a bumpy ride

and my 2nd statement

When I went through my CD's ( Had to clean out my collection) I looked at the music I listened to and just THREW THEM AWAY. Seriously, I wa like "GOd Forbid? Who the hell are they? *Tosses* Cradle of filth? GOODBYE *Garbage* and who are these guys? *Throws away the rest of the other crap*"

Only the Epic shall listen to the allmighty powermetal folkness

Sajin, you FUCKING ROCK BABY. YOU HAVE FOUND TRUE POWER!

... within my tastes I'd say.

In reply to your post:
- Timeless Mircale ... Folk Metal? Folk metal is something I've been meaning to expand into, the only true Folk / Power metal bands I've really gotten into so far is Ensiferum and Elvenking. I will definitely check them out.

- Blind Guardian is great. I even like their older stuff when they were more like Thrash, and Hansi Kursch didn't use falsetto (trust me his singing sounds 100 times differet in the past, but still great. Just different). I really need to get more of their stuff.

- Heard of Dark Moor? Indeed I have. Aren't they kind of spanish though? I believe they did a cover song on Tribute to Helloween. Even though the accent was funny at times, they did an excellent job covering Helloween's song "Halloween". I'll have to really check them out.

- Sonata Arctica. They're in my book of greatness, but not too high. I'd honestly have to say I like Dragonland a little more (very very similar). I just don't seem to enjoy Sonata's albums all the way through, they just sometimes seem to be a little too soft and too fancy at times. But, I seriously still love them. Ecliptica and Silence rock my face.

- Savage Circus ... I've seen the name, but can't say I've really heard them. But so far I can say ... I have yet to hear a true Power Metal band that I do not like. Power Metal fucking destroys my face. I'd have to say the same for Lost Horizon, I'll have to check them out.

Sajin, and others who might care, here's my recommendations:
(just a quickie).
- Tad Morose. I know you'd love them Sajin, absolute fact. Think of Blind Guardian, but with less epic / renassiance themes in it. I'd also have to say their vocalist (Urban Breed ... seriously he goes by that in their credits, not sure if that's truly his name though ...) is just freaking insane. He has such a drastically huge range is not even funny. There's times where he sounds like Blind Guardian, and then Queensryche, Iron Maiden, and whatever. He's insanely great. If you get one of their albums, I'd highly recommend Undead.
- Iron Savior. I now own all of their albums. They are probably my 2nd favorite German metal band right after Gamma Ray. Their vocals are thicker and heavier and more like Blind Guardian, but there isn't as much screeching ... I guess. Their style is great though, you can easily tell they were heavily influenced by Judas Priest. I've been listening to their latest album, Battering Ram a hella lot lately. It's just insanely great. I might upload a song or so.

Also, since I've gotten into Shred Metal (Impellitteri, Racer X, Malmsteen), I discovered vocalist Rob Rock who sang on some of Impelliteri's albums. Turns out he has his own solo band now, and they DESTROY. They're quite a unique and agressive sound. I got his first album, Holy Hell and almost all of the songs start off making me think someone is going to come in growling. It really sounds like Death Metal, but then Rob Rock comes in with his soaring vocals that I'd compare to ... Bruce Dickinson, or whatnot. His bands style is easily along the lines of Power Metal.

Rob Rock's myspace page ... goofy maybe, but you can hear 4 songs there. They rock. I'm a Warrior sounds like a pure 90's Metal classic.

That's it for now.

4228+ keystrokes. Well ... what? I love talking Power Metal.

But yeah Sajin, I think if you bought anything off my list of albums, you'd like it. Seriously. All my stuff has many similar elements:
- Solo's
- Well trained vocalist's
- Unique themes (goofy? I don't give a funk)
- Epic feel
- Speed and Power

Also I got 5 Dio albums in the mail today. Pure classic metal, and with their Dungeons and Dragons lyrics and themes, I can say they had to have an influence in Power Metal. That, and Ronnie James Dio's voice is AMAZING!

I got all of them for like $30 total at Amazon.

What did you think of that dragonforce song?

I have to say my Top three favorites to date are Luca Turilli, Bind Guardian (Old and new) and Wintersun.

I also been going to a Metal Online Radio station these days

Xeo, sometimes they play some stupid shit like straight up Death Metal, but 70% of the time you have people there playing GOOD metal, Im talking straight up favorited like Luca, Sonatartica, Gamma Ray, and several others I have yet to hear. Check them out.....oh yeah, and you can REQUEST any band you want to hear, they have them all, songs, bands, and everything. Its an awesome site!

I go there and Request alot of Wintersun with my friend Road Dog, so if you see any of the bands I listed above, you know were there listening to music

Alright, now in responce to your post.

- Im looking into Tad Moorse as I type this, I have an unllimited ITunes account and im downloading their albulm on my Laptop. And all of the other bands you listed.

- Iron Savior, I need to check them out when I head to GMC today after classes, Ive seen albulm covers that awe inspired me to buy them, but at that time I was a stupid Death head, now I wear a freaking suit of armor and call the type of music I listen to now "Epic Metal",,,,I dunno, Its a Sajin Thing

Oh yeah, here you go Xeo, Another band I was just introduced to Here

Edit- Whoops, thats another Dragonforce song..... Well download that anyway

and also, Tell me your favorite Luca Turilli and Blind Guardian songs.....

Edit- I diddnt know Death Folk Power metal Exzisted

Kalmah, Reminds me of CoB mixed with Cannibal Corpse vocals....Road just introduced me to them and they are pretty good!

i'm going to throw in my two cents to prevent this from being merely a conversation between Xeo and Saijin

I seem to dislike Saijin's taste in metal very much. Though i'm not good at categorizing genres of music, it seems to me that you like only symphonic, goth, death, black, (insert depressing word here) metal.

Xeo, your metal collection is quite impressive...but it seems to lack some essential albums in my opinion. I like that you have some Judas Priest, Children of Bodom (I absolutely love "In Your Face" and "Are You Dead Yet?") and Skid Row. Youth Gone Wild, anyone?

I think Malmsteem is a bit overrated. His skills are undeniable, but with some exceptions, a lot of his songs are rather repetitive. It's hard to find Guitar virtuosos nowadays that are able to incorporate variety into their music. While he doesn't just play metal, i suggest that all of you look up John5. He was originally the guitarist of Manson's band, but after quitting, he was really allowed to show off his real skills in his solo albums Vertigo and Songs for Sanity. Some amazing songs that showcase his abilities: "Damaged", "Soul of a Robot", "Gein with Envy"

I really do not like Dragonforce at all. They are the epitome of redundancy. Every song i hear by them sounds almost exactly the same. Their two guitarists are very skilled, but they are also extremely cocky...especially Herman Li.

I haven't read through this entire thread, so sorry if i'm repeating stuff already said.

If you ever feel like straying away from goth or symphonic or whatever metal you usually listen to, you should consider listening to some good ole' Pantera. Vulgar Display of Power (is that the name? it's something like that) was an absolutely amazing album. Some songs to definitely check out if you haven't: "Walk" (one of the coolest riffs ever), "Cowboys from Hell", and "Cemetery Gates" (really one of the most amazing solos ever by Dimebag Darrel).

Another one of my favorites bands is Trivium. There's been a lot of debate about what kind of metal they are, but they are most definitely metal. THeir dual guitars and harmony solos are absolutely stunning. Their album Ascendancy is one of my most favorite albums ever. If you're interested, check out "Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation" and "Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr" by them. They've been hailed as the next Metallica...so that's got to count for something. Fun fact: they did an amazing cover of Master of Puppets.

k, that's it for now.

Sparda, I would thake your custom title into consideration. Read a couple posts behind me and understand what I listen to a little deeper.

I have heard of Pantera and everything else you just said, even downloaded them off of Itunes a month ago. I like them as well.

But seriously, It helps to read sometimes....

i don't really care what you listen to nor do I care to understand what you listen to 'a little deeper'. that's why i didn't bother reading the entire thing. i even said I DIDN'T read the entire thread. so what don't you get? i mentioned you only twice in that entire thread, one of them was simply to point out that I dont' completely agree with your tastes in metal. you mentioned all the stuff before. alright, that's fine. but i'm giving my opinion. i'm telling you what i have to say about some of the bands mentioned. so what's the problem? This is a metal thread about metal in general, not "Metal that Saijin likes".

therefore, there's no need to tell me to follow my own advice and read more. I'm contributing to the thread, not to your one on one conversation with Xeo.

you could have corrected me, couldn't you? i was being serious about 'symphonic' all the way to 'black'. the thing in parentheses was a joke.

how hard is it to spell Pantera correctly?

btw, no hard feelings.

EDIT: one more thing...there's way too many categories of metal in existance. they need to find some way to make it more organized. :-/

Second Edit: On another note...i like Nightwish. Isn't that symphonic metal?

No hard feelings....yeah

Anyways, heres the types of metal I understand

Metal- stuff like Metallica, slow, sweet, a little heavier on the drums, yeah yeah

Heavy Metal- Stuff like Blue Oyster Cult, alot heaver, and introduces to screaming

Nu Metal- Stuff like System of a Down.....

Screamo, like heavby metal but mixed with screaming emo singing

Doom Metal- omg, depressing stuff like Goatwhore

Black Metal- Satanic stuff like Cradle of filth

Speed Metal- Im guessing Nightwish....

Folk Metal- Wuthering Heights, they sing about midevil times and whatnot

Everything else is arguable, and im typing in total darkness right now, Look it up on Wikipedia

i'm typing with sore fingers. :-/ so excuuuuse my typos.
Metallica is slow and sweet? wow.

also, Nightwish is definitely symphonic metal. And I think metalcore is something like the heavy metal genre except there's screaming...but it's not really emo.

i stand corrected. i got Metalcore and Thrash metal confused cause those are the two genres Trivium is most often associated with. Metalcore is just heavily influenced by Thrash metal.

Very good. I Take back my words on calling you a douche ( Nevermind.....you dont get it )

Screamo is stuff like Emorangers and underoath. I think of it as Indy Rock lyrics and music mixed with some sort of fucked up Metal going on in the background

edit- Lols, the vocalists dont even go with the beat of the music, and its not in sync, Like changing BPM's rapidly....Dosent make sence to me....Maybe if I was on an Acid Trip....

i don't quite see how I was a douche in the first place when I even said i'm not good at categorizing genres of music. when I was referring to goth, black, symphonic, etc. i was actually referring to bands you mentioned earlier like Kalmah or whatever. i just didn't get the genre right.

edit: i'm also a big fan of Rage Against the Machine. I think they would be considered Rapcore.

I don't really care about the genre game anymore thesedays. When I speak of the typical kind of music I like nowadays, I usually say Power Metal ... but also I might just say European Metal, since I will argue (well I don't really need to since there's really no debate here if you ask me) that Europe has easily carried on more "true" metal than any other country (maybe Japan could be in there too, but I have to get into j-music).

I just don't go around places too often thesedays saying "I like Power Metal". Many bands that I have seen on sites, can be called Thrash on one site, Power on another and even Speed (extremly loose term there). 'Speed Metal' itself is a very dead term. I mean you can refer to bands with styles, and everything and I have gotten good results with usually can fall under 'Power Metal', but really you can label so many bands out there so many different styles. I just don't take the genre names as serious as I used to now.

But, that's a little boring to discuss.

Sparda, I know you mentioned you didn't read this thread, but I'll go ahead and repeat myself for fun. Dragonforce, they're decent. But extremely overated in my opinion. I only own a few of their albums ... just because I kind of bought them "for the heck of it". I do like their stuff, but after 3 or so songs, it gets old fast. I also can't stand how popular they have gotten (T-Shirts can now be seen at Hot Topic), and also don't enjoy how cocky they are. They're fast, sure. But I'm not interested in pure nonstop non-unique guitar playing here. I once wanted to register at their forums ... and basically say "Hey, their solo's are boring. Very very very boring. Try listening to Racer X sometime folks. There's shred speedy solo'ing, with a flow to it".

Malmsteen? I love his stuff. But I guess I can see how people think he's a bit overated. Still, I think if it weren't for him we wouldn't have a lot of the bands that we have today like Rhapsody, Symphony X, and whatnot. He set the table for the neo-classical metal sound.

But yeah, there's a few shredders out there I like over him. I really enjoyed Racer X's first two albums. The speed, great singing, and Paul Gilbert's guitar playing was incredible. Sparda, if you like Judas Priest, look into Racer X.

Racer X - Judas Priest relationship story time:
- Racer X vocalist Steve Martin is good friends with JP vocalist Rob Halford. That, and with Racer X's 2nd album, they had Scott Travis on drums, who's known to be one of the best drummers out there. If it weren't for Racer X folks, you would have not heard that insane drumming that you hear on Judas Priest's Painkiller album. Racer X recommended him, and do this day he still plays for both the bands. On top of that, I often compare Racer X's style to JP. They're just somewhat more agressive (especially with Street Lethal and Second Heat), and more about the guitars, but there's definitely a similar sound there.

I'd also have to say that there's uncomparable guitar virtuoso on Jason Becker / Marty Friedman's two Cacophony albums. They may have had one of the shittiest vocalists on those albums, but the duel guitar soloing and virtuoso is like nothing I've ever heard. I never compare any other shred guitarist to Jason Becker's playing. His solo's on those two albums they put out, are smoother than any other guitar playing I've ever heard. Jason Becker is also somewhat inspiring to me. (look him up if you want to learn about him. Basically he's now paralyzed but compose's
entire albums, note by note using the movement of his eyes with computers).

Edit: Can't say I've ever really cared for Pantera. Great band, but I never cared for their sound or vocals. Kind of the same thing for Slayer ...

Rage against the Machine is excellent. Very awesome and unique band (more fun to listen to than Audioslave if you ask me). I just don't know if I'd actually ever listen to them on my own free time.

Also, even though my CD collection grows and grows and grows, I still stand by and will say Gamma Ray is still my top favorite band. I also even keep gaining new respect for them. Recently, because I realised how high Kai Hansen can get his voice, almomst like he's using falsetto ... but he doesn't use that. Its impressive.

Also, and if it weren't obvious because of my album list, I'd have to say overall I like Medadeth over Metallica. Megadeth's Rust in Peace album beats out any Metallica album. And Megadeth's latest album, The System has Failed just annihilates Metallica's list of albums they put out when they went away from thrash. (If you haven't heard the album, I'd say the sound is very much like Youthanasia and Countdown to Extinction).
