So check this out....
This guy sells a laptop on E*Bay. He waits 2 months before he sends it. In converse of the laptop being reported to have 2 GB, a DVD drive and in working condition, the memory is actually much less, there is no DVD drive and the damned thing is broken. What does the buyer do? He rips out the hard drive and posts the contents in a blog. Amir and his foot fetish just got served. Check it out and feel free to pass it along: http://www.amirtofangsazan.blogspot.com/ (Last edited by Rogue on 06-01-06 07:38 PM) |

Well, first of all, this is exactly why I don't buy things off of e*Bay, it's a shame that e*Bay doesn't check the items that are being sold on there. Second of all, it's interesting how this guy is enjoying this whole scenario that has played out, it's almost as if he wanted the other person to find those pictures. But as far as all his other information being in there as well? I wouldn't be as nonchalant about this as he is -- his whole life practically was in that laptop. I like how it says on the site that he tried to deny that it was his laptop and then there being a picture with him in front of the laptop! Now, that part was funny. You realize that all contents on a hard drive are never really erased by electronic means. Anything on your drive can be recovered, hence why you should never sell a used hard drive anywhere. Unless you fully erase it by electromagnetic or magnetic means.
Two, I sell and purchase things on eBay (there is no star) all the time. And, as a seller, eBay does have methods of resolving certain (but not all) issues. Just because one person online is an idiot, doesn't mean all the other sellers are as well. And, it takes being a smart shopper on eBay to avoid having shit done to you. In the three years I've been using eBay and other online services, I haven't had any major (or minor) issues with any other seller. You're just afraid to change your perspective on something that is already changing the way we conduct business. On another note, eBay is how I acquired my Japanese DS (black version), and how I acquired my Japanese DS Lite (navy blue version), as well as other wares I can't get in the US. If at all possible, it's probably where my next car will be coming from (since I don't want an American Prius). But, if man gets screwed out of money on a crappy laptop, I say recover the data on the hard drive and post the shit. You do realize that he probably shipped the laptop with the data reformatted thinking it could never be recovered again. But, having an understanding of how hard drive data works allows for anything that appears to be lost to be recovered again. So, no, he probably didn't leave his data on the hard drive to be discovered. |

1: If you buy computers off of Ebay, you are a dumbass, and you need to get schooled by newegg.com
2: A smart shopper gets the buyers information source beforehand he buys something from the buyer. For obvious reasons, if the item dosent come with a warrenty, or a sure method that you are buying the RIGHT thing from the source, then by all means go ahead and buy it. However if the buyer just says what the item has, and nothing else. Its your damn fault for buying the item... Alright, now how do I feel about what Rogue posted? I thought it was hilarious. However I dont think anybody cared about the man being homosexual...now if he was in the closet, and the man who posted on that blogger was sent to his family and friends. Then that will be hilarious! Now to buy my 300GB HD off of Newegg. Edit- had to add a few words to make sence (Last edited by Master Sajin on 06-02-06 03:49 PM) |
