| I went and saw this movie with my girlfriend and her brother - and I have to say that it kicked major ass!
From what Andy (her bro) said, it follows Silent Hill 1's storyline. (Scary thing is, when I typed Andy's name, he walked into this class... talk about random....) It's probably the best video-game movie that I have ever seen, and it's way better than any of the "scary" movies that they make anymore! I mean, come on... who was really scared of "The Grudge"? That movie was just plain dumb.... |

| lol I watched Silent Hill and at the end my sis looked at me and pat me on the back. "I'm proud of you Saz, your first rated R horror flick."
O_o that's when I found out that she was right it WAS my very first rated R suspense moment. During the movie when Spoiler:
the preacher lady gets split in half My sis leans over and goes "ow... my uterus." Half of the theater heard it and laughed real loud. That was when some chick behind us yells "THAT'S NOT FUNNY." The next day, we went to school and I talked about it with a friend who had seen it at the same time as us. She looked at me and laughed. The friend was the person who shouted out. |

| First things first. Silent Hill is definately not the BEST video game movie. I don't think there will be on that tops the first Mortal Kombat.
The special effects in the movie are the best i've ever seen in a horror movie. It was very well done. I read that most of the monsters aren't actually CGI, just actors with amazing makeup. Special effects aside. Some of the acting/dialogue was bad. Excellent example of this is at the beginning of the movie when: Spoiler:
Her daughter keeps chanting "Silent Hill" in your sleep. I was worried the movie would take this corny path of dialogue, but it didn't. However the plot soon became very convulted and hard to follow. I understood it, but they tried to cram the whole backstory in to a 5 minute flashback. And it still didn't explain everything. And the end....there's a lot of speculation as to what it means. There's really no cut and dry explantion. But in my opinion: Spoiler: It's just proving that Silent Hill is an alternative reality. And that's where the mother and daughter are. This would set it up for the 2nd movie where her husband could get a letter from her saying come to Silent Hill. Just like the 2nd game. |

Anywho...I actually REALLY wanna see this movie. A few of my friends already have and they liked it. They said it was pretty gorey, but it was good. (Blood and guts can gross me out, but it doesn't scare me. I prefer stuff that allows your imagination to take over..hence why "The Grudge" freaked me out.) |

I saw this movie 2 times its my favorite movie so far I really like it alot. I bought Silent Hill 3 for ps2 and I have been playing it at night time by myself in the dark, I don't know why but I get a rush when I get scared and I like it  |

| I thought it was horrible.
(Just thought I'd get that out first). Really I didn't like this movie that much at all. I'll give it props for being an incredibly good videogame transfer to movie (even used music from the games) and it really does stay true to the games. But ... I just don't see what the big deal is about this movie (everyone seems to be loving it). The storyline seemed pretty empty, and like others have said the acting was a little ... lame at times. I was really hoping to see a suspense / thriller, but seemed to get a "Let's see how grossed out people can get". Which brings me to the violence in this movie. Am I the only one who thought it was a little over the top, and not needed? I mean, I've seen Passion of the Christ, read the Berserk manga, seen Fist of the NorthStar (and the new one), and so it really didn't make me cringe or anything, it just didn't seem needed. But my friend and I were talking about the violence today and comparing it to Gladiator. Gladiator didn't bother me a bit, but it bothered him, but he didn't think Silent Hill bothered him at alll. | I wouldn't say it's overrated. It needs to be highly liked to be overrated. Most of the reviews have many negative things to say.
I didn't really think the violence was to bad. In fact the one Pyramid Head part actually made me like the movie more. I've been desensitized by film though. So I'm probably a bad example. (Last edited by § on 05-05-06 07:06 PM) |

| True its gotten bad ratings, but people themselves all over are praising it.
And yeah, I'll admit the Pyramid Head was pretty amazing. He never transformed / pooped out more of himself though.

| The first Mortal Combat movie sucked dead monkey balls. Ok, maybe not THAT
bad but it wasn't all that great. I haven't seen Silent Hill yet but I want to very much. I honestly don't care if it's the worst movie ever made. I honestly would like to see it just for the sake of seeing how well it stacks up to the game. I have a problem with Pyramid head being in the movie at all, he was only in the second game not the first one, but I'll withold judgement on it until I've actually seen the movie. I'm hoping to see it this weekend if I can scrape together the money for a ticket. |
