Something that kinda spawned in my mind over an MSN convo.
Basically, what is your religion? What is it about? Etcetera (sp?). For me, I don't really have a religion. I believe in reincarnation and evolution in animals, and I have opposite beliefs from Christians who say animals don't have feelings, because I believe they do. By the way, no trying to disprove other's religions, or people saying "OMG MY RELiGON SO BEETZ JOOS!!!!11eleven" incase it causes offense or whatever. *Glares at Vulkar* Et toi? |

I'm a Druid. Or studying to be one at least. It takes a while to actually reach the
status of Druid. Currently I would be considered a Bard, next stage is Ovate, THEN comes Druid. It's also rather difficult without a Grove nearby and finding material to teach oneself is hard since there's so little of it. I've scoured bookstores of all types and so far I've managed to buy only three of the five book that I've seen in total that have Druid in the title. I also have a book called Celtic Magic but that's not exactly Druid even though the Celtic lands is where most Druidry came from. WhiteRose will probably have more to add but Druidry is basically earth and nature based magic and wisdom. The ancient Druids studied for over a dozen years before they reached the actual rank of Druid. They were mediators, peace keepers and the voice of reason among the tribes. I like and agree with everything I've seen where Druidry is concerned. I can't say that for any other religion I've looked at so for me this fits better than anything else. It's a very good thing my girlfriend is tolerant of me though. lol. Her family would REALLY flip out about that one. |

Fifth thread I've seen on this board on this topic...
As many of you know, I am LDS. Basically then we believe that there was more gospel, and a lot of it was brought to America. Part of it was translated by Joseph Smith. Most of you know this as the Book of Mormon. However, most of our new doctrine comes from the retranslation of part of the bible, known as the Pearl of Great Price. This shows a plan for life, going as follows: We were all made into spirits in the prelife. God made a plan for us to gain bodies, sending us to earth. One third of the spirits fell away, wanting God to make it so that there was no choice but to be perfect on earth. We are part of the two third, who agreed that we should have our own choice. All of us were sent to earth, and all of us will have ressurected bodies. Once we die, we will go to one of two places until Christ comes to earth. We will come either to heaven or hell, based on belief. However, this hell is not endless torment, and this heaven is not endless happiness. The people from heave teach those in hell, who can be babtized here on earth, with a living person there to take the place. Everyone will get babtized. Later, when Christ comes, there will be a thousand years. Anyone who didn't get babtized by us, will be then. After that, we will be placed into one of four kingdoms, based on our morality. We can go to the Celestial kingdom, Terrestrial, or Telestial. Highest, middle, lowest respectively. The last one is eternal darkness, reserved only for those who knew about God, who had visions, ect, but lied saying it was false. I can say more later today. |

Christian -- And I go to a Baptist, Evangelistic, and Penecostol Church. ( When I was little I went to a Catholic Church)
I believe that Jesus Christ died upon the cross to save my soul for the sins I commit. I am constantly learning from the Gospol to be a better "Perfect" human, even though knowing I will never be "Perfect"...I aim for it Alot of people say that Christianity is a religion, and when people follow that word, they really dont receive the blessings...To me its a relationship. Since I started praying, I have become more of an understanding person, and I have also become more motivated to help those that are meek. However, I am not perfect, I cuss, I dont help as many people as I should, and most of the time I avoid problems by avoiding the source, when I SHOULD go to the source...or the middle of the storm...But im a Coward with a low self-esteem... At least I have an Open-mind on everything. Alot of friends tell me I shouldent listen to the music I listen to because it Blasphimes (sp?) God or Jesus...I really dont mind that sort of thing...Just dont make a joking matter of it and we can be cool. All Edits- Typo Viruses, stuff I dont wanna talk about...and uhh...Yeah (Last edited by Master Sajin on 04-24-06 05:36 PM) |

I'm a born-again Christian. Baptist, to be exact.
I believe Jesus died for our sins. And eternal paradise await for all. I'm pretty open-minded, though. I respect the religions of other people. I used to study (not practice) other religions a while back. Mostly Judaism, but others as well. (Last edited by Trigger Happy Jones on 04-24-06 01:44 PM) |

Just let this be known
I was born and raised Catholic. However I'm very much agnostic (if that even makes sense) now. I used to be a very close minded, God obsessing, athiest hating, altar boy. Now i'm quite the opposite. |

I'm nothing. I'm not agnostic, atheist, or a Christian, Judaist, Buddhist, Mormon, Taoist, or Discordian.
I've got my own idea on gods, afterlife, life itself, but trust me. They are fluid. I always follow instinct, because I believe it is our true soul. It's one of the few things good parenting can't change, or bad parenting destroy. It's just that gut feeling without provocation that tells you to do it. Everyone gets different instinct, and if you follow that, you are your true self. Anyway, in my opinion, God didn't make creation, he is creation. God is the "breath of life", to will to live. It's what makes us human. Animals have it, too. I mean, we have souls. And they're all connected. You can often feel how someone is feeling even if they don't show any outward signs of it. God is the total being of all our souls together, the ultimate soul of sorts. Anyway, in case I'm wrong on all this, which I would not be suprised about, I do what I can to lead a morally upstanding life, so no matter which religon is right, at least I'm not going to hell. |

Originally posted by Cairoi Your ideas sound very Eastern, namely Hindu. Hindus believe that all souls are connected within the Brahman (the world soul) and the Atman (inner essence). When one person rises, all rise. It also fits with Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism where there is no concern for the creation of the universe, there is no "God," but there is an all-encompassing energy which flows through all people and things. This energy is what is divine. Think of the Tao or chi like the Star Wars equivilent, the Force. Well, this is just a half-assed description, it goes much deeper, of course. Not meaning to deter from your ideas of the universe, but just telling you what it sounded like to me. |

I'm a Mormon so I believe what Vulkar described (more or less) although I think his job of explaining was poor at best and doesn't make as much sense as I would like...
but I'm too lazy to add or correct, so tough on me I guess but yeah, I try to not let the so called restrictions of organized religion stop me from believing in any number of "spiritual" possiblities... there is truth in every religion.... |

Neo-Pagan. Wiccan, to be exact. I like it; it's a peaceful religion that seems to fit my philosphy and mindset. However, I don't practice rites and spells as often as I'd like to, and I feel a tad guilty about it
Elara and True can add more to this. |

Born and raised Christian.
But I've never been too interested in it. Mainly because in the past, when I was in Junior High my dad forced me to go to Youth Group meetings. And we've always gone to smaller churchs, and I just simply didn't have any friends in most of the Youth Groups I've been to in my lifetime. I just ...didn't find anyone I could really relate to, and people I could really fit in with. I mean, I'm a very quiet person, but my best friend in Elementary school was a Juvenile, not saying he's bad or anything but I have never really fit in with the real religious people in my time. Then when we went to a very large Church, with at least a young adults / teens group of 50+ people, I only knew like one guy. But I couldn't stand how hypocritical people were there. They'd act all "special and holy" within the church, then outside of it ... you see them drinking, having sex, cussing, etc ... stuff that they say they don't do in church. I just hated it. There's been many times where I've told myself "My friends who don't go to church have more common sense ...". But now it's been over a year since I've been to church, because of my job. I always work when I could be going. Honestly I've been quite surprised my dad has done nothing about this, but then again ever since I've turned 17-18 I think he's realized "I'm growing up", and has given me more freedom. That's basically it. I do believe in many Christian beliefs, and think it has made me somewhat of a better person. But then again, I haven't read the bible, or anything. Either way I don't think I'll ever have much interest in expanding my religious beliefs, at least at this point in my life. I guess I just have more of a laid back philosophical mindset or something, but yeah. (Last edited by Xeo on 04-25-06 10:39 PM) |

My particular believes are rather eclectic. Overall, I consider myself Wiccan. However I also study Druidry and am a practicing Discordian as well. Pockets did a good job of explaining Druidry, and only WhiteRose can really add to it, so I will stick to the other two.
Wicca: Wicca has many different traditions such as Gardnerian, Dianic, Eclectic, etc (details here). The basic belief that all share is the importance of nature in our lives and many concepts that prevail in Eastern Religions, as well as the Three-fold Law and the Wiccan Rede. The Three-fold Law states that whatever energy you put out will return to you threefold (3x3x3, aka karma works) and the Rede basically states "and it harm none, do what thou will". Most Wiccans in the world now are one of the three groups I have mentioned above, with Eclectic being highest among the youth. I am an Eclectic if you haven't figured it out. Wiccans and Druids follow the same Wheel of the Year as far as sabbats go. We have 8 holidays, 4 minor (the Equinoxes and Solstices) and 4 major (Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasdah/Lammas, and Samhain). There are stories behind the holidays that vary by tradition, but generally they tell the yearly cycle of the Goddess and the God. Wiccans also have smaller rituals called Esbats that are held every full moon. Some Wiccans believe in only a Great Spirit, though most believe in the Goddess and God (in some traditions only in the Goddess). Then there are those, like me, who think that there is the Great Spirit that is the energy of all the universe (much like in Hindu belief), that physically manifests when it has to as the Goddess and God (which are opposite polarities). The Goddess and God are known by various names throughout the world based on what the people praying to them need. If the God is called Ares he knows that he is being prayed to for something involving war, if he is called Posidon then it involves the sea. To summarize that, I kinda believe in both. Discordianism: Founded in the last century by two guys in a bowling ally, the believes of Discordians are basically written down in the Principia Discordia. The basics are that they follow Eris, goddess of Chaos. Emperor Norton I (The only Emeror of the USA, look it up) is a saint. The number 5 is important because it comes up everywhere, and 23 is even more important because it is a prime number composed of prime numbers that added together equal 5. They view most things as silly and take as little of life seriously as possible. They also like to have as long a Discordian name as possible... meaning lots of titles. Venomouslobster can answer any questions about this religion, since he is a Pope of Discordia. My patron deities are Eris and Loki, though I call on any deity I need in a certain situation since it is still the same Goddess or God that I am calling to, just a different facet. I don't really get to celebrate the Sabbats because I live with my parents, but I do what I can and when I do I'm usually in plain clothes since I haven't been able to get robe and I refuse to work skyclad. |

I agree, working skyclad is a bit outside of my comfort zone too. (for those that
don't know. Skyclad = naked.) Elara, WhiteRose and Oni and I would be more than willing to celebrate ya know? It might be a bit late to try to work something out for Beltane but maybe if we can manage it we can go to a park or something and celebrate plain clothes. The intent is more important than the ceremony of the event don't you think? In my Druid researchings I have come across that same comparison that Rogue made. You can compare a lot of pagan beliefs to the Star Wars concept of the Force. It's largely talking about energy and life surrounding you, inside you and infusing the world and universe itself. The main point behind Magic, (or Magik.) is to tap into those energies and ask, not command, but ask for their help in whatever spell or rite it is that you want to perform. I THINK I got that right. What do other more experienced practicitioners think of my explanation? (Last edited by Pockets on 04-26-06 04:29 PM) |
