Reviews:
I'll be a little more serious here instead of just saying "They're gods".

I seriously like every Gamma Ray album. If I had to pick my favorites, I really couldn't tell you which ones they are. I love Somewhere out in Space because of it's goofy happiness feeling, I love Powerplant because of it's fast paced epic action, I love No World Order because of it's darker more serious tone, I love Land of the Free because of it's incredible epicness and huge turning point for the bands career.

Heading for Tommorow, Sigh No More, and Insanity and Genius are all a little different. But what you can you expect when they were made up of different people back then? Ralf Scheepers did vocals, and you could compare him to Dream Theater's vocalist, just a little more huskier and more furious.

Overall those 3 albums have more of a "Rock n' Roll" feel to them, compared to the more epic feel that Land of the Free, and the rest of Gamma Ray gives off.

Land of the Free was a turning point for the band, because Kai decided to take up vocals again, that and he seemed to want to do something more seirous with the band, and spent more time with the music and lyrics. Land of the Free is the beginning of the New Gamma Ray, and from there on out they had a slightly different feel to them.

Blast from the Past is probably my top favorite purchase from Gamma Ray. It's a 2 disc set, that has a collection of fan picked (on their website) songs from all of their albums up to Powerplant. But, instead of just throwing songs on there like most collections are handled, Kai Hansen and Gamma Ray re-recorded every song from Heading for Tommorow, up to Land of the Free. The remixed the songs a bit, remastered them giving them a more current-sounding feel, and the biggest change is that Kai did all of the vocals (since he wasn't lead vocals back then). And it's freaking incredible. Lust for Life is probably one of my all time favorite songs.

Overall, Gamma Ray is my favorite band of all time. They've never had a "horrible" album of any kind, or any kind of downfall that just about every band out there does have here and there.

Q: Ralf Scheepers or Kai Hansen?
A: Personally I like Kai Hansen more, because he sings and sounds like no other singer out there, and he just really breath's life into the band with originality. But Ralf Scheepers isn't bad at all.

(have any questions? I might throw in some more of my opinions here and there from time to time).

PowerPlant.

Probably one of my favorite albums from Gamma Ray, after Somewhere out in Space and Land of the Free.

Thanks xeo

That's what I've started to do. I just bought a $20-$30 package of 100 Memorex CDRW's and they work great.

So yeah, you guys like them? I'll probably upload No World Order next. Only thing is, No World Order just seems different compared to their other stuff.

In terms of music I'd say Somewhere out in Space is there best album, but I believe Land of the Free had the most work put into it. Kai Hansen sounds so much better in Land of the Free, there's a song with vocalists Micheal Kiske from Helloween (when Kai was with them), and there's a song dedicated to one of the former Helloween members (drummer, Ingo) who commited suicide. So it just really seems like the most work was put into Land of the Free, so it's definitely up there as one of my all time favorite albums.

Uploading No World Order now.

Sorry it's taken awhile. I listened to No World Order today, and totally forgot about how awesome it was. I don't think it has a select few songs on the album that will blow your mind away (like Powerplant, Land of the Free, and Somewhere out in Space. Overall those albums are incredible, but they have a few songs that just blow everything away). But overall, this album is just extremely good, and a pure classic in my opinion.

From here on out though, Gamma Ray seems to go into a weird theme, Heaven and Hell. Both this album, and Majestic have a lot lyrics revolved around Heaven and Hell. It's nothing that bothers me, not at all (heck, the song on this one "Heave or Hell!" is awesome itself), this and Majestic just don't seem to be a cheerful as their other albums. But then agian, cheerful and metal?

Songs:
01. Induction
02. Dethrone Tyranny
03. The Heart Of The Unicorn
04. Heaven or Hell
05. New World Order
06. Damn The Machine
07. Solid
08. Fire Below
09. Follow Me
10. Eagle
11. Lake Of Tears
12. Trouble (Bonus track for Japan)

Actually, that list could be entirely wrong. My friend gave me a burned copy, and he / his burner seems to throw songs out of place. I know track 4 is actually Eagle, and 7 or 8 is Heaven or Hell, I think.

Oh well, listening to the vocals you should be able to figure it out. And this download will include the bonus track.

Overall though I think tracks 1-6, and a few later ones are great. Definitely an album you should put in, and listen to entirely from the start to the end.

*Note: There's a lot of mentioning of Eagles in this album, which is kind of cool because it makes it seem connected to Helloween's Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II, specifically the song "Eagle Fly Free". Heck, at the very end of Eagle, it has the exact same sound (birds or something in the air) that you'll hear in the intro song to the first track on Helloween's KoTSK2.

Just thought I'd say that. Even though I don't think any of you have heard of Helloween?

You sure the songs aren't for the most part, correct? Especially since they're all named except 12 and 13. (so you could go to metalstorm.ee or something and check the list).

I think 13 might be a cover or something ... I have no idea. I don't think it's on the burned CD I have of this album.

Saijin: You like?

PS: Most of my stuff will be in .wma format ... since that's how it copies over when I copy a CD to the computer.

I'd be fine with converting things and all, it's just that I'm at about 1GB of free space.
(I keep deleting huge files, then a few days later we're down to less than a gig somehow ...)

I wonder if I've been listening to the songs like this myself ...

Bah, oh well. I plan on actually buying the real CD soon, so then I'll have a real copy, with correctly ordered songs.

Sorry about that. That's just how I got the tracks.

To tell you the truth I prefer it .wma format....

it just makes it easier for me to burn to a cd to listen to on my cd player, since it dosnt play mp3's and I dont have a mp3 player...

so yea..

Alright, I have no idea what I gave you guys. I'm guessing the first track was an extra ...

I got the real album in yesterday, and the order is entirely different *laughs* and it's missing two tracks (probably those Japanese bonus ones or whatever).

Sorry about the mess.

Just to let you guys know, I own every single Gamma Ray album now.

Except Alive 95' (which is just a live album), and singles.

I seriously think their Pre-Land of the Free albums are great. Yeah, the band is almost entirely made up of different people (Only Kai and Dirk have been around the whole time. And interestlingly enough, Dirk did guitars back then, not bass).

Yeah, I think Land of the Free is a turning point for Gamma Ray. Yeah, I like Kai Hansen's voice more than Ralf Scheepers.

But from all the reviews I read, and the ratings I saw I was a little discouraged to buy Heading for Tommorow, Sigh No More, and Insanity and Genius. But when I first listened to them, I couldn't see why people would say they're anything "bad".

There's occasional sound effects in some songs that are entirely uneeded, but if you tried to compare their first 3 albums to anything else during the early 90's, what could you compare them to? Back then those albums were probably on top of the game.

Ralf Scheepers has an interesting voice. At sometimes I like it a lot (the way he sings in 'Gamma ray' in Insanity and Genius is awesome), and sometimes I don't like his voice.

You could say he sounds like Dream Theater's singer, but with a litte touch of Bruce Dickinson to it. He sounds a bit whiney here and there, and scratchy, but he's nothing that ruins the music at all.

- Skelatons in the Closet. I was VERY impressed with this Live collection. It's on par with Dream Theater's Live in Budokun CD when you compare the qualities. And it's just great to here what some of their songs sound like live (Razorblade Sigh is amazing).

So yeah, all in all Gamma Ray is easily my number 1 favorite band of all time. They've never had a downfall of any kind.
