First, allow me to clarify this. I am in NO WAY insulting your forum. I'm just..a tad confused.

Your rule system..well, to be completely honest, it seems like it was set up to cater to new Simmers only. Most of the things a "newbie" would normally bitch about have been outlawed. Not only that, but there seems to be something of an "unspoken rule" which states that the shorter and less descriptive the post, the better.

So what's going on here?

Allow me to clarify.

Most new Sim Battlers have trouble with how to start off. Mostly on how they post. Most new people have the tendancy to post one liners... Thats not very good when it comes to sim fighting, due to the lack of discription.

Thus we told them "The more the better" ... and then I saw Shin-Ra x-x

You see, we want our Sim fights to be discriptive, but we want the fights to focus on the fight. Most fighters don't really care in which way the water will flow, or how the envionrment will sway in specific ways. They are concerned about what their opponent is doing at all times.

There really is no need to write a novel sized post about the setting (and if you do, for god sakes, leave it focused on the setting. Don't make a story out of it.).
Your confused because your used to your board, Leviathan. We don't like to write novel sized posted. We rather leave the posts discriptive to a point. We don't want one liners, but we rather not take half an hour to read what someone has to say about the enviornment, or some story that is being created. This board's sim fighters just want to head straight to the fighting.

And have fun doing it.

You guys are pure Role Players. While thats great, its very bad for the Sim Forum. So just leave your Fights stright to the point, while keeping the discriptions up, but when your in the RP, by all means, hit the novel posts, because thats where the real fun is.

Does that help?

1: We are -not- pure "rpers". We are "simmers" through and through.

2: The school of simming i am used to states that description = power/effectiveness. Writing a paragraph describing a fireball is a lot more effective than simply stating "fireball". Not to mention the fact that the more descriptive a fight is, the more options a given fighter has. "Slashes at whoever" just isn't going to cut it in a swordfight.

3: It is next to impossible to use a well-developed character in a fight and only post 2-3 paragraphs. It just doesn't work.

As i said..no insult intended..but this is the kind of thing i saw way back when i was starting out. "No teleporting ever..its really cheap" "A doppleganger? Thats cheap" "I'm not going to read six paragraphs in a sim..thats stupid". A proper sim is 60% skill and 40% writing. Personally, i don't think my character has a SINGLE attack i could describe in a single paragraph. He is far too well thought out for that.

I am not just used to "my" board. I've frequented at least a hundred decent RP forums in my time..and roughly 97 of them would frown on a 3 paragraph sim post. It shows a lack of skill and creativity.

Okay.... I have no here say in this but what does that have anything to do with the fact that new simmers write "fir-ball" instead of "As she held her hands in a gesture with all but her index fingers interlaced, she makes a spherical object of burning heat. It glows bright red and it spins in a clockwize motion. Sailor Mars yells out her battle cry and sends the swirling ball of hotness straight at Kaijin's face." I mean... for me I have problems with things like references to the Matrix and stuff. Why? Because I got ADD.

I have no problems with writing an essay on one attack, but simple things like a gun pointed and so on... I gain writer's block.

The rules are just in "General".

People in the past have been known to actually create their own rules for matches, RP's, and so forth, with fairness and everything, and that's fine, as long as nothing is too "out there" and whatnot.

Edit: This thread has been massacred so I didn't see your reply, Leviathan.
Dopplehangers and Teleportation are not allowed because they're easily abused. If someone spends alot of time describing an attack and/or constructing a trap that their opponent was foolish enough to fall into, its not fair to them if the opponent can get out it by simply"Teleporting away" or saying "omfg lyk u didnt hit me. u hit a clone!11"

That last one got really bad on another board when the Naruto craze first blew up.

Then by all means, describe to your heart's content. Heck, the same applies with my attacks. They've been dished out to probably at least 2-3 paragraphs. But you must understand one thing. Our board is filled with newbie simmers. It's near impossible that this newbie simmer is actually going to take the time to read your entire post. It's a matter of finding the right person to fight with or RP with. It's as simple as that.

"3: It is next to impossible to use a well-developed character in a fight and only post 2-3 paragraphs. It just doesn't work. "

You're absolutely right. We're talking about the 10+ paragraphs. 2-3 is hardly enough to describe anything if you ask me.

"2: The school of simming i am used to states that description = power/effectiveness. Writing a paragraph describing a fireball is a lot more effective than simply stating "fireball". Not to mention the fact that the more descriptive a fight is, the more options a given fighter has. "Slashes at whoever" just isn't going to cut it in a swordfight. "

One thing I've always told my students when I was unretired was that you might as well kill yourself if you're going to make such undetailed posts because you're handing the battle to your opponent. Description is good. We encourage it. But let's just say we don't want 3+paragraphs on a single fireball. ^_~

One thing to note is that there are some veteran fighters on this board who have made "novel" posts in battles. It pretty much depends on who you run into here. I've also tried to teach some people to at least have a lot of content to their fights. I think a lot of them could use a bit more training in that area.
