Well back in the day, there were 2 games that defined what we now call First Person Shooters. (Sorry, Wolfenstien never seemed as impacting as these 2, in my opinion ...)
Doom. From Space, to Hell. You'd take on hords of demons, while simply searching for the Red, Yellow, and Blue keys. And it was incredibly fun. Then there was Duke Nukem. An FPS, with more attitude, humor, and babes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the storyline like ... Aliens were coming down to Earth to take all the "babes", and Duke had to stop them? Well they were both great games in my opinion, and I think I'm undecided. Doom was great, and so was Doom II. Duke Nukem however, kind of lost it's touch after it's first FPS 3D game, when it went 3rd Person, at least for me. Well, what would you say? |

Are we talking about the original DOOM and the original Duke Nuken? Or just the most current, or anyone?

Doom. It's the only one I still play. Dad got it for himself, but he couldn't figure out how to install it. He assumed it wouldn't work on their computer, so I put it on mine. I suck at it, though. (Last edited by Tamarin Calanis on 04-22-05 03:07 PM) |

Erm. According to the forum this is in, there are only two replies to this thread, and I don't have the last one.
Which is why I can doublepost... |

Hopefully this is the only messed up thread ...
Anyways, do NOT get or play the PSX version of Doom, it's utter crap. They took out the good music. =( (Last edited by The Xeomega on 05-03-05 05:09 PM) |

I love Doom guys. Doom is my all time favorite game series, and will continue to play it forever. I actually play it about every day online. You guys should come play online. All you need is a Doom Engine such as Doom Legacy, ZDaemon, ZDoom, jDoom, Skulltag, etc. Once you have an engine you can play on Doom Connector where many people meet and play every day. If you are interested in getting Doom Connector you should go to go here to get it. You can also find links to the engines I mentioned at the Doom Connector website. I recommend jDoom because it has the best quality and the best OpenGL mode. If you do come on, look me up! My name is High Flyin' Ryan on Doom Connector and ZDaemon, haha, imagine that (Last edited by High Flyin' Ryan on 05-03-05 08:16 PM) |

Not a whole lot of skill in Doom though.
jDoom was what I usually used, and Doom Legacy. So, I'd recommend those myself. |

Well, skill is required in some of the toughest wads released such as Alien Vendetta, Hell Revealed, Hell Revealed II, Scythe, and most recently the Dietest wads which is made for about 16 people to team up in due to all the monsters. Recently I have been holding Alien Vendetta in coop on Doom Connector for up to four people (that means three can join cause I'm hosting ). You should come on sometime, I play Doom every day and have the Ry-Cave: Alien Vendetta Coop game up all the time. Also I might recommend getting on ZDaemon and playing the Dietest wads that were released. They are pretty damn sweet and a lot of deaths happen in them . I'm glad to see someone here plays Doom besides me . Oh dude, did you ever try the Doom 64 remake for jDoom? It is pretty amazing, though I'm not a big fan of Doom 64

On this subject, i would have to go with the Space Marine. He stood up to the very evil of hell and came out alive. He faced imps, trites, pinky demons, and he slaughted them. He faced Hell Knights and fragged them. He faced the large stinky Mancubus, and butched them. He killed the big boss bad ass demon in hell, and came back. What is the worst Nukem face? some cops that are pigs??? im sorry, the marine could vaproize Nukem with his BFG (Big F*****g Gun). Nukem isnt anywhere close to the space marine. WOOT WOOT! YOU GO GUY!

Originally posted by High Flyin' Ryan Yes, that's the only way I was able to play Doom 64. (wasn't it an edited Doom 2 wad, for jDoom?) I didn't get too far into the game, but from what I played I really did enjoy it. Good music, and a nice dark setting. Cool guns and everything, but in the end I wouldn't say it matched up to the originals. |

Oh yeah it definitly did not match up to the originals. Yeah, it was a modified Doom 2.wad for jDoom. jDoom is really amazing, I love it

my all time fav is Doom 3d. that game was scary, even scarier then the Doom 3. i remeber playing it and thining "wow, this game freakin rocks", and i also thought it looked so life like. Doom 3d was the first game that got me into FPS for real. Wolfenstein pushed me in that direction a little, but not all the way. i also remeber playing the bootleg versions of this game. they all had their ups and downs, but the originals still stand as the best of all time.

Duke Nukem is a very interesting character, what with the random phrases he spouts that can be hilarious and lack of plot. I'm more affected by this game than Doom, mainly for its humor and tackiness. A few of my friends seriously want to try and make a FPS/real time strategy game titled Duke Nukem: Doomed to Fail. The FPS would have a fun online mode with giant non-secure servers and the strategy game hasn't had much thought yet If they actually pull it off, I'm sure it would be a cult hit. |
