Well, as some of you may or may have not known, I have been away from the board for a little over a week, unexpectedly.

I moved into a new home, and apparently it takes SBC more than a week to set things up in a new location, even if it is 5 streets down from our old place (Moved into a bigger house, if you're confused)

Anyways, I'd like to make a statement, a statement I've wanted to make for a long time.

Activity.

I'll be blunt and straight out. It's bad. Very bad. These past couple of weeks have been completely and horribly slow, going at 70-100 posts a day. Sure, that's not ultimately "horrible" but think back to about 2 months ago, when Xeogaming was hitting an average 300+ posts a day. You do the math and compare.

I don't know what happened. Did I do something? Did someone do something? Does there need to be a change? Seriously, just say it if you really want to.

Heck, I was going to make this kind of thread only in the staff forum, but exactly why? To inform 12 or so people that I'm unhappy with activity?

Sure, maybe it's low for a board owner to publically say something like this, but guess what, I'm only human too, and being the owner of this place, and even though it may be selfish saying this; I'd like for this place to be thriving and as successful as it can be.

In no way am I saying this place is bad now, but it's definently not what it used to be at. It took us only about 2 weeks or so to get back up to 8,000+ posts, then something happened. We sat in the 8,000 range for a week or two, now we're "almost" at 10,000. It sure is taking this place a long time.

All I'm asking is what happened, and why? If there needs to be a change, just go ahead and list of ideas and suggestions here in this thread, whatever you say, even if you agree or disagree with me, won't be taken offensively.

Also an issue with staff, and I'll go ahead and publically mention this too. Yes, the staff here at XG is doing their job, and doing it completely fine. But when it comes to staff discussions, I sometimes don't exactly know what to think when a "Staff Vacation" thread is the most active thread in the Staff forum. What am I supposed to think? With staff constantly taking "vacations", I sometimes question the staff we currently. There are a few exceptions, and in no way am I a posting nazi when it comes to staff, but it just doesn't seem like the way it used to be.

I've questioned a staff rehaul, again, but truthfully I don't think that would solve anything.

Again, you'd probably never see a board owner make a public statement such as this, and maybe I'm making myself look bad, but hey, like I said I'm completely human myself, and would "like" this place to be a thriving community.

I won't be shutting this place down, or anytime soon regardless as how the activity and dedication to this place has almost fallen by 70% within the last 2 months or so, but it honestly just makes me delay things, and just doesn't get me as excited to do things for this place as I used to be.

Anyways, I'm back, and no I haven't changed, I wanted to say this before I even moved. And I know for a fact there are others on this board that will agree with this statement, and whether or not they'd like to share their thoughts and opinions on the community as of now is up to them, but I'd encourage everyone to put in your input here.

This is basically a talk about Xeogaming, the community, and how it's been.

Please discuss:

Maybe I'm just being ignorant here, and I'm full of myself and just wanting this place to be something it can't be. And if you truly feel I'm acting that way, again, please don't hesitate to speak your mind. I'm open to any suggestions and ideas here.

**glomps** I want to get something across to you right off the bat Xeo.

You've done nothing wrong.

There aren't any problems here that I can see. If people have differences with one another, they pretty much have been keeping it off the board and in their IMs or whatever personal ways of contact that they have with one another.

You're a great owner, so don't down yourself. You do a kickass job as supreme jedi master of the place, so don't you worry either.

Other than personal problems, school has been hindering my activity, and the activity of others I'm sure. I know in my school we had JUST began the 4th quarter, so there was exams for that and everything...and stressing over the SATs...there are plenty of people that are around the age to be worrying about that here as well. Alls I'm saying is, something like that may apply for a lot of other people here too. I know my teachers come down the hardest on us this last part of the year to prevent everyone from slacking off or something...

That's just an assumption I'm making, because I don't know how school and stuff works for everyone else here.

Me? Suggestions? Really?

WELLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont really have any.......................just that some recruitment would spark things up, at least i think. The more members you have, the better the posting, and the more popular members you get, the more posting will go on really, at least thats what ive seen.

In no way am I'm trying to be offensive here to you Katana, but just to be a blunt as I possibly can ...

Sure, school seems to get into peoples way here, but was it in there way for the 1st Semester? Didn't seem so, and it sure has seemed to effect a lot of people if that's so ...

I've already brought this up with other people in the past, and a lot of people told me "It was Spring Break" and people were "busy" on Vacation or something. Well, I don't think anyone gets a 3-4 week Spring Break, if we're all living on Earth, I'm sure our break is a lot shorter than that, yet activity did not increase or show any form of improvement.

Sure I may sound offensive here, but I'm just getting straight to the point.

In no way are you being offensive Xeo. Blunt is the way to go...when talking to me at least, or else it'd prolly go right over my head. I don't know about the people who haven't been active since September, but I was just thinking that it just might be the case for those people who were where most of the posts came from or something.

As for a 3 week Spring Break...HA! I wish...I usually only get 2, if I'm lucjy 3 days for Spring Break....this year was only an exception cuz of some kinda Catholic Schools convention downtown.

But I see exactly what you mean. I just don't really have much to say because I haven't exactly ever been in the top 5 posters for the day myself, so I don't have much room to talk.

Unless you can make school be nice to me there isn't really any thing that you can do. Trust me Xeo, the reason that most people here are not as active is most likely do to stuff like work and school... and probably the occational video game addiction or two.

As soon as the course load lightens a bit (i.e.: as soon as I am sure I'm not going to fail) I will be back here torturing you all and dragging Cryus with me (if his work lets him).

But seriously you are not doing anything wrong in the slightest. Like I've said time and again this is my favorite board, so yeah... no form of bias at all, I swear. Just give a bit of time and it will pick up again. I know us little freaks at LBCC have finals coming up so that is hindering us, finals are coming up for high school students as well, so the stress is on and all that lovely stuff. Once that is done with the post count will skyrocket back to what it used to be.

Hm...yeah, I'm not active. =/ Especially not for the past while due to comp problems, but it be fixed now. It's okay for ye to get frustrated when your activity goes down, and who knows, may just be a slump. I can't really suggest anything to change it, since this board is great and fine as it is...we'll just have to post more.

I'll try and post more. Even if I have to kill that friggen Ewok. He takes up the comp all the time. The bastard.

But when it comes to staff discussions, I sometimes don't exactly know what to think when a "Staff Vacation" thread is the most active thread in the Staff forum. What am I supposed to think? With staff constantly taking "vacations", I sometimes question the staff we currently have. There are a few exceptions, and in no way am I a posting nazi when it comes to staff, but it just doesn't seem like the way it used to be.

I know what you mean on this statement, Xeo. Unfortunately, I am going through the same thing on my board. Yeah, I attempted to do a staff change as well, but as someone pointed out on there, is it really going to do any good? Probably not.

Again, you'd probably never see a board owner make a public statement such as this, and maybe I'm making myself look bad, but hey, like I said I'm completely human myself, and would "like" this place to be a thriving community.

Xeo, by no means are making yourself look bad in the slightest. You care about what happens to your board and that is exactly the way it should be. Frankly, I'd wonder about the future of a board if the board owner didn't care what would happen to it. I have noticed that the board went down to as low as 58 posts during the last 24 calculated hours -- that's extremely low for XGF, considering what "normal" activity is around here.

I won't be shutting this place down, or anytime soon regardless as how the activity and dedication to this place has almost fallen. . .

Yeah, as you and quite a few other people have pointed out, you'd only regret the decision of shutting the board down if it ever came to that. My board has "escaped" shutdown three times. . .

In short, I know what you're going through Xeo -- as I'm currently going through that now. All in all though, you're doing a great job of maintaining the board -- despite 3 shutdowns/restarts since I've become a member. Keep up the good work man.

Well, here's why I'm not particularly active.

My time is split between a LOT of boards. I'll just list 'em for you, in no particular order.
Acmlm's
Elric's
Simbattle
NationStates (there's a few semi-intelligent debates there)
Pockethouse
Xeogaming.

That's six boards. My posts per day at each of the above boards?

Estimations:
Acmlm's: 2-7 daily
Elric's: 1-3 daily
Simbattle: 2-10 daily
NationStates: 0-3 daily
Pockethouse: 1-2 daily
Xeogaming: 1-5 daily
Total: 7-30 daily

Now, I think I split my posting amongst these boards pretty nicely. Simbattle obviously gets top priority with me being board owner. Acmlm's is just more active than here, so I'll post there more because I find more to post in. XG's third in my overall activity. You may have noticed that I was more active when I was staff here; that's because I was expected to be. I posted, pretty much because I felt like I had to. I was a moderator - later, an administrator - and I was expected to be active. Otherwise, people would question why I was on staff, no matter how well I did my job.

I'm not going to dedicate any more of my time to any board. I'm often at the limit of my allowed time on the computer anyway, and that's without playing Gunbound, Ragnarok Online, or Diablo 2. So, complain all you want, I'm contributing all I can.

And Xeogred, you can't expect US to be on Xeogaming 24/7 too. We are ourselves and you can't say that we can't live without our board. Look the facts are:

- We are growing up and developing different behavior.
- We may mature and gotten older
- We have free time that this board may not supply us what we need.

You get the idea. But Xeogred, maybe half of your time by posting with just few smilies face and not trying something new can result as a HORRIBLE waste of time. You gotta try and do something new, not just a boring activites like posting and playing the Battle Arena but you need to add some fun to it.

Like when this board I went to. No matter what they did, they alway add pretty humor to everything they feel like they need to joke about. Guess what? They have over 1000 members for just being humor. They respected so much feeling, it generates more people that WANT to be respected. They set a good example and show why and all of those questions come with a answer.

You, on the other hand, want us to post and make US your board successful. That's isn't right, man.

And maybe a Staff rehaul would be a good idea. Half of your staff was not "spamming" but somewhat when they close the thread, you can expect them to short post like:

"Close thread"

And just waste a huge good explaination on that. Plus, half of your staff can not really consider of people feeling while some of us wishes to speak out on our own opinion and let us be hear. You can't threaten us every time we do something wrong or need to listen closely.

Xeogred, people have their life. Don't tell them on how they should spend it. We have all of our own moment where we began to develop and eventually feel that this board is getting slightly useless over time until we think we need it again.

At first I felt like making a good and striking comeback there Beowulf, but I am seriously going to hold my breath.

You missed the entire point. And I never specifically said, that "Everyone on the board must be posting all the time everyday everywhere". (What I got from your post)

No offense. But your comment helped with nothing whatsover.

Leave it to Beo to be the first to spit out "Staff Rehaul"

coughlamercough

Xeo, as I pmed you already, school work just interfers with things, and nearly all of the current subjefts have been spoken of. When something new pops up, the board will jump in activity for as long as that issue is 'hot'.

Not to be totally disrespectful, but you did come off as a self-serving loser. Anyway, you do realize that while most people do make the board their life, others just don't. That, and the lack of interest in the quality of posts has diminished. The board is just not the same anymore. I, on occasion, update my stories, and provide quantity and quality versus just the post counts for the day. I'm sorry that all you expect from us is a daily post count rather than quality over quantity.

So, we're not up to our prime posting sprees, but you do realize that we don't have spammy threads like we did before, and that has dimished our posts. I'm not too interested in reaching over 1000 anymore since I already did it, and just lost my entire efforts in the wipe. Bitterness one point, life zero. Anyway, at least we're still here.

From one loser to another, it's best to just let go and operate day by day, rather than dwelling on the past. You know, stuff happens, and as a once owner of a company, I know the frustration you must feel (even though it doesn't really compare). People have got stuff to do. I'm an insomniac, so I'm on at the wee hours of the morning when no one (except Deesse every now and then) is on. I don't exactly have school anymore (I stopped going), I just have commitments that don't revolve around this or any other board. If we shut down, I go to LiveJournal. If we don't, I stay. It's not a huge thing to me anymore.

I have friends to tend to, family, my company, work, my free time offline, my free time online, my life online, this board, AR, and some other junk I do with the time when I'm not asleep. I have an upcoming job interview in Phoenix, an upcoming testing session for the Department of Homeland Security's US Border Patrol, awaiting results from my interview with the 911 dispatchers for the city of Los Angeles, repairs to my car, solving my cash flow issues, bills, eBay shipping of items, eBay auctions and money transfers, "working on my website", working on my novels, reading things, researching other stuff, and job hunting. Updating my resume, and so on. When I can, I fit in time.

Life is not online. Life is not the board. Life happens offline, away from the computer.

Then there are other self-serving losers out there too. Others came to me telling me about this also awhile back. As I stated, I was nowhere near being the only one thinking that activity had delcined. If it weren't for others, I would have never made this statement, but I did get complaints and thought I'd just say something.

Whether or not that single sentence was opposed to me, doesn't matter. My patience with you is already about to break. So I'd be a little more nicer from here on out if I were you.

So, you expect a blunt reply from people, and end up with a reprimand because I hit home? Anyway, I'm contributing every now and then, and if that contribution just happens to be only to my story updates, then so be it. I have opinions, and I share. If you'd like to mandate things, then so be it.

Yeah, activity declines, and people complain, but I haven't complained (much) about this issue in a while. Yeah, and I do complain, guilty as charged, but I at least post even down to the one post per day thing. I stayed loyal to this board despite it going down, despite the post wipes, and even through the upgrades. But, if you're going to turn around and tell me that you've had it with me...eh, it's just another person that I've managed to piss off somehow (I'm really good at doing that).

I'll be floating around, perhaps, in an attempt to rekindle that glow that XGF has so lost...

Huh. So, let me see if I understand this. You ask what teh problem is - quite bluntly, I might add - and when someone makes an equally blunt reply, you get mad at them?

That doesn't sound like you at all. Somehow, I think you're taking the lack of activity personally - that's the only reason I can think of for you to reply like that.

oh, by the way, I wasn't implying that I wanted to be staff again in my last post, or that it would in any way help my activity. We all know what happened last time I was staff. Still have no clue who the bastard was; he wiped Simbattle before I switched to phpBB.
