Ah, my favorite RPG game ever, and it's prequel. I much prefer Chrono Cross over Chrono Trigger, but I still enjoyed Chrono Trigger. In Chrono Cross, even with the still staggering cast of 42 characters, each had a story and devolped. You party was what you wanted it to be, and the story a little, too. The story was awesome because it had so much depth to it. Everythging tied together except a few singes here and there. In it's tiem, it had as good graphics as FFVII, maybe better, and the fact it changed everytime you played it through made me gidddy. Yes, giddy. THe battle system, kickass.
SUMMARY: The game was so awesome I played it through three times. My favorite characters were: Chrono- Main character. He has an awesome weapon and some cool Tech Skills. Guile- The badass Black element magician. Glenn- Everyone's favorite knight. |

I would say Chrono Trigger for me thats only because I remember more of Chrono Trigger than I did of Chrono Cross but that certanily doesn't mean I didn't like Cross. The time travel appealed to me more than two worlds and gaining characters throughout each world. It was cool to see how each character was portrayed in each world because I remember Fargo had a pirate ship in the real world then when you would go into the other world and it was a casino boat. I could be wrong it has been awhile since I've played so anyone go ahead and correct me if I'm wrong. Also I never got Glenn when I played Cross I hear he was one of the most badass characters and he could also perform X-Strike with seirge. I think I just liked the world a little bit better in Trigger than in did in Cross and I liked the battle system a little better as well and I thought the double and triple tech abilties were badass and added a unique feel to the battle. I definately need to pick up this game again and play through it again because I instantly loved the characters and the world. My favorite part in the game was when you switched bodies with Linx and Sierge.
And wasnt the main character Sierge not Chrono? |

Yeah Cairoi, it's Serge.
I've played and beaten both at least 3 times (Maybe more for Trigger). I've never hesitated to prefer Trigger. It's a pure classic, and I just enjoyed the storyline a lot more than Crosses, the idea with time travel just took the cake for me. But I could probably make a bigger list with how awesome Cross was: The art, my god to this day I will still argue this game had the greatest still-backdrops in any RPG back in the day; The music, you can't compare Cross's score to any other game out there, why? It's beyond anything. And the battle system was just really fun, and it hardly ever got boring, along with the very cool element system that allowed great customization with characters. My only complaint for Cross: Short game. All the times I've completely beaten it, it only took me about 20 hours or so. Either way, you can't go wrong with both games. But if you're somoene who's only played one, I highly recommend you play the other. Just personally, I've always favored Trigger more. |

Heh heh, Serge, yeah. You know, I never kept the name so I couldn't remember it well.
Think about what you just said though: How many hours? Think about how many hours it takes most games nowadays to beat. 10, 13 hours, unless it's godly? The main reason behind me liking Cross better was the fact or idea that your every action changes things. To me, Trigger played like a story, while Cross is your novel, to a degree. Your action whenKid is poisoned decides many things, you can go after certain characters because they appeal better, and it just is more what You want rather than what the game says. Not to say Trigger wasn't bad. I love Trigger, too. I just had lotsa trouble accepting the fact that if you mess with teh past, (take a character out) history didn't change much. I haven't played Trigger in a long time, though, and I've been playign Cross lately, so my opinion may be a little skewed. |

Odd order. I almost voted Cross since it was first. Chrono Trigger was first, people...
Chrono Trigger. The battles in Chrono Cross bored me to death, and since that's what you spend half your time doing in an RPG... yeah. Maybe that's just me, though. Some people seem to have liked it. Honestly, though, a lot of RPG battles on the PS1 bored me. =/ Aside from that little problem, I had no other issues with Chrono Cross. But, CT wins since it didn't even have that problem. |

I like Chrono Trigger a lot, even if I still can't beat the final boss
How can you go wrong with characters like Frog(Glenn)? I mean, he's a frog! And he has frog related spells! How do you beat that!? |

Originally posted by Tamarin Calanis Boring battles in Cross. Have you played Legend of Dragoon? Boring RPG's for the PSX? I have yet to see the amount of good RPG's it had on any other system. Just saying things. Cairoi: Trigger, The Story; Cross, the novel. Not a bad example there, and I could probably agree. Cross was a really open-ended game, tons of different paths you could take, and many different characters that you could or couln't get throughout the game varied by your choices. Time wise though, I have to kind of disagree. I'm not really comparing it to today's games, that's just ... not fair. But back in the day, most RPG's that I played for the PSX took me at least over 50 hours to beat, FFVII, FVIII, and FFIX all took me over 80. (Then again, I'm one who likes to max out all my characters and stats, complete all sidequests, etc). Cross does kind of redeem itself with it's length issue though, since it has many different paths it has good reply value, and there's the New Game+ feature. And just for the record, yes, I have no idea what I'm argueing about. Truly, both Cross and Trigger are among my top favorite games. |

Originally posted by The Xeomega 1. Yes, and that was even more boring, considering it coupled boring battles with a (to me) boring story. Maybe I'm just bitter because the magic items in Legend of Dragoon relied on button mashing, which I'm no good at. 2. I didn't say RPGs on the PS1. I said battles in RPGs on the PS1. Mm, that was a difficult decision. I went with Chrono Cross. Trigger will always have special meaning to me. I've enjoyed the game so much (and it's also how my story series began), but there were a lot of things I like about Cross more than Trigger. Teh amoount of characters, lots of spells and special attacks. So of the story elements had concepts that intrigued me, like a "time crash". I thought it was the coolest thing when I saw the map area of Chronopolis for the first time. And the whole thing about the entire game area being a "creation" was great. Trigger and Cross are tied in just about every aspect, but to me Chrono Cross just barely edged out, even if Chrono Trigger is a top classic. |
