Went from over 24 hours of 7 degrees(night) to 12 degrees(day), to 6 degrees(night), to 28 degrees(day) last week to 63 degrees yesterday.

Yes.

Oregon has weather shifts like this every day, all year. It'll be blizzarding one day, followed by a heat wave in the same day, then freezing rain, fog, sun, a tornado consisting of cheese, and wind, all in the same day.

Of course I'm exaggerating, but that kind of weather shift would not surprise me in the least.

Yeah, it's been pretty weird up here too. One week it's like -30C with some crazy windchill and then the next it's 5C.

I'm not complaining about the latter, but it's still annoying, as it means I have no idea how I need to wear for the day, when I wake up.

Yeah seriously. I'm usually going out lately wearing t-shirts, but with a bunch of removable layers like a hoodie and a coat since it's so unpredictable.

I will have checked the weather for the next few days, looked again ten minutes later and it's totally different. We got a break from the freezing temps for a few days that was lovely, but it's back to being cold. High of 30 with snow tonight and tomorrow. I am hoping the ground warmed up enough that it doesn't stick to the road.

It's been so hot and dry out here, there've been red flag warnings for the past week. And surprise, surprise, Glendora is on fire now.

So while the rest of the country is fluctuating between cold and freezing...

But Rogue, when is there NOT a problem with drought in california?

But yeah, here in North Carolina then the weather's been dumb too. It went from being -10 degrees one night to 72 degrees just four days later.

But then, we're used to that here. If it's hot one day, it's almost a guarantee that it'll snow the next. I figure that the angry weather gods just make no sense.

While it is true that Southern California is lauded for its near 300 days of sunshine a year (we do have to have our water pumped from other parts of the state), this extreme heat in January is not normal. The polar vortex is causing record high heat in Northern California, which isn't used to it this time of year.

Hell, summers in San Francisco can be cold. I once ended up buying a jacket when I forgot mine at the hostel because the temperature fluctuates from neighborhood to neighborhood and it had gotten unbearably cold suddenly.

I'm pretty sure you're not exaggerating. It went from like 60 degrees early in the day, to like the 50's, hailed for like an hour, and then back up to closer to 70 out there. I witnessed it.

See, I can deal with all that as long as it stays above freezing.

Polar vortex is coming back again... oh joy! < /sarcasm>

Ugh, that is just not right....

We are getting a tiny break from the snow here at least. But you know it's been a cold winter when you look at the current temperature and think 32F is a warm day.

The forecast for the week is as follows (hi/lo): Today 35/8 cloudy with snow, Tues12/-1 snow, Wed 11/3 winter weather advisory, Thurs 14/-4 snow, Fri 11/9 partly sunny, Sat 24/17 cloudy, Sun 23/3 cloudy

I would make a joke about bribing the groundhog but I doubt it would affect anything.

I hope that groundhog bites the shit outta everybody and gives them copious amounts of rabies. Something I've longed for since I was but a child. **sigh**

Snow tomorrow 3-6 inches apparently.

I hate.

Just.

Hate.

I was going to post that we've finally started to get colder days, but then I'd step outside and get sunburned. In other words, my house has somehow managed to stay frigid inside (we have no A/C, and usually our house is poorly insulated).

Anyway, we took a walk on the beach during the extreme low tide the other day due to the micro-moon we had. It's been the one benefit to this overly hot summer-like winter.

Yeah, this shit really isn't good huh? =/ I could go with the "grass is greener" approach since I'm pissed snow totals were upped to 6-12 inches or 9-14 inches, according to whichever news stations, but I honestly haven't had the time to sit down and read about the science behind all of this.

Like, is this some sort of cycle that the weather isn't what its "supposed" to be? Although, honestly, despite us having record lows lately, the overall difference between a "normal" winter and this one doesn't seem to be too vast. Out west however...(although we had a day of 60 degrees here, and a couple days before and after in the high 50's, which is also NOT normal.)

Plus I imagine there was a reason why I bookmarked a few articles about the Fukushima plants possible effect toward Cali...oh! And I have time to read them today. Yay! :p

Yeah, lots of people are freaking out about it and there are loads of articles that over-exaggerate it. It's been to the point that people were finding graphics that made it look like the Pacific was entirely poisoned, but really the graphics were for other things (wave height, etc).

I spoke with the marine biologists at San Pedro's Cabrillo Aquarium about it and they were saying that at most it's just been that slightly irradiated tuna that swim in certain currents and travel long distances are turning up here, but the water is safe.
