| I seem to be reading a lot of French things lately. Just finished the graphic novel "Last Days of an Immortal," an out-of-sequence sci-fi story about an alien working for philosophical police who lives on through clones he makes of himself.
Also reading "The Drac: French Tales of Dragons and Demons," which I'd picked up from the library on a whim when I felt like going through the myths and folklore section. It's all right. Not very gripping, but they're based on medieval stories so they're pretty simple. |

| Since last post read "Templar," a one-shot, though quite long, graphic novel about the fall of the Knights Templar.
Also read volumes 16, 17, and 18 of "Fables." "Cubs in Toyland" was unexpectedly dark. Currently reading "The Steel Seraglio" by Mike, Linda, and Louise Carey. I'm only about 100 pages in, but I'm liking it thus far. |

| Very cool.
I tried picking up "Runaways" again. I'd read the entire Brian K. Vaughan run as it printed, years ago, and I read the Joss Whedon-written arc not long after it came out too. I thought Joss' run was the worst up to that point. It was like bad fan fiction. But now that I've started the Terry Moore run... Ugh... It's beyond AWFUL. And the art style is completely different for the entire series' and that's just as annoying. I've still got a couple more volumes to read. I really don't know how I'll finish this with the writing and art being such eyesores. It's taken me a week to get a quarter of the way through "Dead Wrong," because I keep putting it down and reading other things. |

| Finished that volume of Runaways, I re-iterate that it's terrible.
Currently working through the collected omnibus of all of the Age of Apocalypse books. It's so freaking huge. I finished the main story with Legion, but just sort of stopped caring about the rest. More working through Mike Carey's Lucifer books now. Lucifer being a companion series to Neil Gaiman's Sandman series. The first story's pretty boring, but now I'm into the second and the art is better. |

| Finally finished The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History.
I had heard about the book last year and put myself on the wait list for a copy at the library. It took freaking 6 months to get it. Three months into the wait, I heard it was going to be a movie (because I'm that freaking oblivious). Anyway, the book is sort of a real-life Indiana Jones. So yeah, no real action and packed with much more history. What little I've seen of the movie that came out a week or so ago, the characters have completely different names as the actual people and they pumped in many more things than actually happened to members of the MFAA. |

| I just finished reading an ARC of Christopher Moore's new novel The Serpent of Venice. It's his sequel to Fool, which is King Lear from the jester's perspective, and is an utterly fantastic read. Moore is an author capable of having practically every other line of prose elicit at least a chuckle, while still having incredibly deep and engrossing plots and characters. Serpent follows the same fool, but this time throws him into a story that is both Merchant of Venice, Othello, and a Poe story thrown in for good measure.
Now I'm going to start digging into The Honorable Schoolboy, sequel to Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. |

| I loved Moore's stuff when I was in high school. I had a copy of Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal when it came out, but a friend borrowed it and when I tried to get it back she kept insisting it was her copy.
I'm guessing the Poe story was "The Cask of Amontillado"? I really should pick him back up again. Finally read the last volumes of "Runaways." What a sorry fucking ending to a great series. Terry Moore was the absolute worst thing to happen to this brilliant Brian K. Vaughan work. While I disliked Joss Whedon's arc (it pissed me off and felt like mediocre fan fiction), Moore was SHIIIIIIT. "Runaways" just went into a freaking tailspin when Vaughan left. |

| Attempting to finally get through Pride and Prejudice and Zombies after years of meaning to and then saying I wouldn't read it 'til I finally read the original (which I did last year).
I'm oddly finding it more boring than just picking up the Austen version. |

| Well the title alone has my attention.
I am currently working through a few things. Pockets' new book The Fifth Clan was just free on Kindle this past weekend so I picked it up (I was one of his beta readers so I want to see the final version). Also reading The Redemption Engine from the Pathfinder Tales line, it's a sequel to a previous book that I have read called Death's Heretic. I recommend both. I started and am slowing making my way through The Swerve: House the World Became Modern, a monograph on the effect that the Latin poem "On the Nature of Things" influenced the modern world. It is interesting but a slow read... but it was a gift, so I am trying to read it as much as I can. |

| Finished The Devil in the White City, but our reading group was postponed.
Started into Irving Stone's The Agony and the Ecstacy for no real reason other than it's been on my shelf for more than a decade now. I ended up using one of my Audible credits to get the audio book for it and I'm following along as it's playing. It's freaking 35 hours long. Eep. |

| Our new book for next month is a murder mystery called "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt. I'm only 30 pages in and I despise it, simply for the fact that the author chose to name a set of twins Charles and Camilla.
While this thing was written in 1992, I HATE when writers give characters matching names from real life like that. What, no Ozzie and Harriet? No Bonnie and Clyde? No Othello and Desdamona? Worse yet that they picked the Prince of Wales and his then mistress to try to make these snobby, New England college kids sound more regal. |

| Wow... that is just sad.
So because I am running an adventure set in the area, I have set down the other books I am reading to read The Crusader Road. So far it is interesting... an exiled noble family from Ustalav (think Transylvania but with more snooty European nobility) has come to the Echo Woods in the River Kingdoms (Strange, fey-filled woods in a land of almost complete lawlessness). The perspectives so far are Tyranna Vishov, the matron of the family who is using her experience in court intrigues to navigate politics of the area and her son Jared, a budding wizard with absolutely no confidence because he's spent his whole life in his late warrior father's shadow. |

| Finished that book and yeah, spoiler, those twins ended up fucking each other.
I'm just glad it's behind me now, though I still have to talk about it in a couple weeks. Started reading "Flowers For Algernon" just to read something else. Should probably finish "The Agony and the Ecstasy" before I start anything else. |
