| You know, I've thought about that and my thought is that the ad companies' market research probably showed that the public prefers already recognizable orchestrations and probably thinks jingles are corny.
That's how it seems to me since we don't really have musicals, as he knew them, any more. People don't just break into song while in conversation with someone. Musical numbers these days tend to be dream sequences (Chicago, etc) or the characters are performing on a stage, so it doesn't seem as spontaneous or implausible, as some people put it. Even then in cases like Glee or Rock of Ages there aren't any original songs either, they're covering already well-known songs. |
