So long story short, I have a lot of health problems! Recently found out...
- I'm protein deficient - Have a bad candida infection (I have literally like 80% of the symptoms probably and it's probably been going on for the last year or two) - And my body doesn't handle carbs well So I am now two weeks in the path to eating healthier and changing my food lifestyle. I was put on a bunch of enzymes too and also have to take this "challenge" powder that looks and tastes like dirt, but luckily it's a one time thing so once the container is gone I'm down with it. It's supposed to be cleaning out my whole system (I have had stomach ulcers before, maybe due to yeast and stuff as well back then). It's been pretty tough and I also worry about dropping too much weight since I'm pretty small, but it sounds like if I can still work out off and on, being on this protein heavy diet, it'll probably make me lose bad weight and then put muscle back on. So that's fairly exciting. Basically all I've been eating... eggs, lean meats, vegetables, and some fruit. Vegetables to fruit has to be a 2:1 ratio. And my nutritionist (no idea what his real title is so I'll just go with this) doesn't even want me eating much bread right now because of the yeast. So it's pretty insane. The detox and withdrawal to say the least, has been pretty crazy. Bad enough for me to miss a good chunk of work recently, but not in danger of losing my job or anything. I trust my boss and some people there enough to let them know what's going on. It's as they say though, to feel better... you have to feel worse. And I do get food cravings, so I guess I can fully understand that that sort of thing is very real and quite a hurdle to overcome. I was basically just eating nonstop shit carbs by the day, that and growing up on antibiotics (big cause for candida) since I was sick all the time as a kid, probably all just got to me eventually. I have been feeling "different" though and some subtle improvements however, so this venture is pretty exciting and I'm really going all out with it. Just tired of feeling like crap. They say it takes a month or so to feel stable again though, so it'll be tough. The funniest thing is I love all this good food I'm eating. But I grew up with my parents not really cooking, so ... I just got in the mindset of eating crap myself or something. So it's like, the biggest challenge has been overcoming the laziness and just taking the simple time to cook and prepare better foods, haha. But it's so worth it when I have a meal though, even if I do get cravings for some junk off and on. The hardest thing so far is eggs every morning for breakfast... it really gets nasty after awhile, so hopefully I can look into some good protein shakes or some alternative. So yeah, that sums up my story for the last couple of weeks heh. Anyone else ever go through something like this, or have tips, or recipes for my diet? ... I realize in the end I probably don't need to be too hardcore about this and I have cheated a little, but yeah I do need to get in some real protein and vegetables once a day at least. |

Fiber, and lots of it. If you like oatmeal, Quaker makes some high-fiber maple and brown sugar. There are also those cereal bars, but with some of those you have to be careful as some have very high sugar and almost no fiber, so always look at the nutritional facts. Finally, if you like chocolate milk, Carnation makes one that tastes amazing, is high in fiber, has lots of vitamins and minerals, and is reasonably priced.
I guess other than that, find some vegetables that you like and make them however you wish, and eat a bit for both lunch and dinner. |

There are a million ways to deliciously cook eggs. My favourite is scrambled eggs, salt, pepper, cheddar, sliced cherry tomatoes (cooked) and fresh spinach… mmm.. Or a soft boiled egg. Everything I'm thinking of involves toast though, and you can't have bread.. So… blah! I can't eat eggs without toast.
Have you tried having like, a protein shake instead? Some protein powder, milk, banana and some ice in a blender would be mighty delicious, depending on what brand of protein powder you go with. I've been told BSN Dessert is amazing (they don't have it here in New Zealand ) Anyway, good on you! I've been eating and cooking for myself waayy more here than I did in the States. It's amazing how much better I feel. |

Oatmeal and protein shakes I definitely plan to look into for some morning alternatives. I can probably have a little bread here and there or go back to it eventually, but I guess candida stemming from yeast is why my doctor doesn't want me eating much bread for awhile. That's been the hardest thing probably (no sandwiches and stuff, etc).
Scrambled eggs I like and they don't take long to prepare, but yeah I'm not a morning person and just want something instantly... haha. But I'll have to get over that or something. I've just been throwing an egg in the microwave and it's definitely gotten old after a few days. That said I had another follow up appointment this morning, they check al these specific points throughout your body while you rate the pain and they could tell the protein and nutrients were going through my body now. My number was 19 today, from 25 last weekend so I'm already improving quite a bit! I have to go easy on the dairy too. But is Carnation's milk a healthier choice or something? I know there's some brands of soy or almond milk that have different flavors. I might look into those sometime. |

Almond milk is bomb. I never just straight out had a glass of almond milk, but I would make drinks and food that required milk with it. I'm not a big fan of soy milk.. it's too weird for me.
Glad you're doing better! |

Of the two, I think I do prefer almond milk myself!
They actually recommended I use alternative milk with the nasty dirt powder I have to help mask the flavor. The combination sounds hideous and it does look super gross, but I tried it a few times and it does work... haha. |

Carnation Breakfast Essentials, that's what it's called. It's a powder that you can mix in, but it's AMAZING with vanilla almond/soy/rice milk.

If you have Trader Joe's they've got a cereal that accounts for like 45% of your daily fiber requirement in one bowl, and it's like $2.99 a box.
Anyway, I've been looking at things like the master cleansing diet where you just drink lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper mixed in water and you drink that whenever you're hungry and that's it. Eep. |

My sister does that... I will admit that it kinda tasted good. But she also did this thing that involved drinking salt water and it made me vomit.

Gluten-free is actually, believe it or not, really yummy. My friend's parents only eat gluten-free stuff for whatever reason unbeknownst to me, Her mother made gluten-free carrot cake and it was amazing.
Staying away from certain carbs is great for you too, aside from your other ailments. "Fake" carbs tend to mess with insulin levels as it tricks your body into thinking that a massive production of sugar is happening. It makes you hungry for the same carbs that have tricked your body into thinking you're hungry. Of course, it's admirable you're taking your health into consideration. With all I've just said, I'm the biggest hypocrite in that regard. |

Three weeks in and this is pretty crazy. I'm really starting to feel like a different person... IE, I'm starting to feel like I can be myself again and live life. Way more energetic around people, anxieties are going away, I am more composed and organized when I'm at home doing things now (like making plans to do stuff and not just sitting around doing nothing), and there's been several things that happened this week at work that would've made me go crazy just a month back... but wow it's like I just didn't give a crap.
I like this feeling. I still have some bad days though, which they said is normal with my body just kind of freaking out now. But wow, can't wait to see how I feel in the coming weeks. |

I keep wanting to try various gluten free things since I know cutting it from your diet also works wonders for weight loss, but the frozen thing is a major stopping point. Like, I wanted to try one of the GF brownies we sell at my work, but I don't have time to wait for them to thaw out. Le sigh.
But yeah, I am happy for your, Xeo. It really sounds like a diet that a lot of us could benefit from to be honest, lol. |
