The regular season is ending soon and most of playoff spots are taken. I think the Penguins will be able to get past the Lightning without Crosby, but they need them back if they want to get any farther. | |||

<--- Hardcore Penguins fan.
We have been doing just fine without Crosby, and we will continue to do fine. I would love to get him back because then we can only do better... but at the same time I like when a series goes to seven games. Besides, I am still hopeful that we will pass up Philly as division leaders and take the #2 seed spot (waits for Katana to stab her). Also pleased to see the Kings get into the playoffs for once... though I am deeply annoyed that they waited til after I moved across the country to do it. |

So apparently this is the first time in history that all three California teams are in the Playoffs.
... and round one sees Kings vs Sharks. You have no idea how annoyed I am that I cannot see that. I can afford to see games at Staples Center. The downside of living near one of the super popular teams. |

My pics for round one:
East Washington over New York in seven Boston over Montreal in six Buffalo over Philly in seven Pittsburgh over Tampa in six West Vancouver over Chicago in five Nashville over Anaheim in six Los Angeles over San Jose in seven (this is more a guess, it could go either way, and Kopitar is out) Detroit over Phoenix in six I wanna wait on calling round two until I see how the teams do in the first round. I also want to see which injured players, if any, come back. |

Picks:
East Washington over New York in six. No Ryan Callahan is going to hurt the Rangers. Interesting to see how Washington's trio of goalies does. Montreal over Boston in seven. Bruins are known recently for under-performing in the playoffs. Should be a hard-fought series between two rivals. Philly over Buffalo in seven. They're still the defending eastern conference champs though this series could really go either way. Pittsburgh over Tampa in seven. If the Penguins can find a way to score like they have recently and Fleury plays like Fleury circa May-June '09. It'll be smooth sailing for the Pens West Vancouver over Chicago in five. The Blackhawks are the defending champs only in name. They've had trouble all year and I don't see them starting to click in the playoffs. Anaheim over Nashville in seven. I really like the way the ducks are playing right now, but once again this could go either way. San Jose over Los Angeles in five. The injuries to Justin Williams and Anze Kopitar are going to hurt the Kings. Interesting to see if San Jose can finally slay their playoff demons. Detroit over Phoenix in seven. They went to seven games last year and both clubs are essentially the same from last year. Jimmy Howard should perform well in his 2nd full year and 2nd postseason. |

I am liking our chances so far... a shutout is a great way for the Pens to start the series.
... I really hope that this helps to show that we don't need Crosby to win the cup. |

Yeah, tell me about it. Honestly I was getting pissed at the refs. They ignored blatant penalties, including a from-behind boarding, they blew the whistle after Roloson made a save and it rebounded instead of letting play continue(in two games), they blew the whistle on a delayed penalty to Tampa when WE had possession (in two games), they kept getting in the way of play when we had possession, and those early penalties for goalie interference when out player was Cross-checked into him... ugh that just made me want to scream!
Looks like I am rooting for the Sharks to win now. Anyone but the Caps or Philly (sorry Flyers fans). On the flip side, I am glad we managed to make it to the playoffs without our star players. We may not have been able to win this series, but a lot of people didn't think we would get into the playoffs at all. I don't think most teams could do that without their two best players. I just hope the Pens do better next season. |

Aye, but I am no bandwagon fan, M'lady.
I simply call it as it is...there were just as many "Fuck you Flyers!" chants as there were "Let's go Flyers!" XD I'll admit. Until we were 3-0 in Tuesday's game, I was scared. Real scared. |

Originally posted by ElaraEveryone always blames the refs, because every team seems to get bullshit calls. It's just da rage. My team's out (lol get 90498 chances in overtime then Boston throws a puck at the net and scores), so the playoffs are a little more depressing, but at least I can hope the best for Vancouver. I also find Pittsburgh's "white out" kind of hilarious, since it looks like they are cheering against the Pens, for the white away team. Was "black out" too hard? At least that way one is drowning in a sea of black and yellow, aka, you know, the Pen's colors. |

White is more noticeable, and there is the whole snow reference (Penguins in snow, lol)... besides I think that an arena named for an energy company would want to avoid the term "black out"
As for the refs, according to cityondown even the sports writers in Philly were saying the Pens/Bolts series had really weak officiating. I watched other games in this round and I did not see nearly the same about of bullshit going on... I mean there were some bullshit calls, but not as ridiculous as this series. Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing Vancouver win except for I hate how the NHL touted them as the predetermined winners just because they got the President's Trophy. It would be interesting to see them go down against Nashville though, considering that they had such trouble with Chicago. I just want to see Detroit go down this round, I am sick of seeing them get into the finals and I find their fans intolerable. |

You guys know those annoying NHL fans that just like to heckle the shit outta people?
**points to self** This guy....Yah... I stood in front of a guy...huge. Like over 6 feet tall, weighed two of me...but...he was wearing a Tampa Bay shirt...So, while stuck in line with me, I heckled the shit outta him...and he just walked away...and I was disappointed. Don't wear shit that doesn't belong in Philly and be surprised if you're booed...or your tires are slashed....just sayin'. Point of the story? Flyguys are still in. And the Pens are not. Woot!!! (All jokes aside, what's happened to the Pens is complete and utter bullshit. They should still be in the race. I love hockey. For the sport, no matter who's playing. And the Pens are damn good. Save this shit, because admitting this will probably never happen again.) |

Good thing that was a joke story because that final line being the "point" of the story made no sense at all.
Anyway, Round 2! Capitals/Lightning...I don't care either way. I like them both, really. Capitals have cool jerseys and I dig Ovechkin. Boston/Philadelphia. Oh wow. Well, I don't like Boston one bit. No surprise, they are the rivals of my favorite team and they won over them. However, I am for once cheering for them...I guess. Weird!! And they kinda rocked today, which was funny. Funny cuz' lol @ Philly slashing at every opportunity like children. Sharks/Red Wings, Sharks easy. I don't dislike the Red Wings or anything but seeing the Red Wings succeed is boring. Vancouver/Nashville, as much as I would've liked to see Nashville go somewhere for once, Vancouver all the way. They're the only Canadian team left! |

Katana: I took a screenshot and saved it. I will be making a backup copy. Yay for heckling Tampa fans!
So yeah, round 2... Capitals vs Lighting - Ugh, the Crosby-bane combo. As much as I dislike them, going with Tampa. Fuck you, Ovechkin. I am saying six games since the Caps are still a good team... but they do tend to choke in the second round. Boston vs Philly - Um... well... given past history, I am saying Boston in a hard fought seven. Sharks vs Red Wings - Sharks in seven. Honestly, as long as Detroit goes down I don't care if I get the number of games right. With the Pens and the Kings out, the Sharks are my team. Vancouver vs Nashville - More than likely, Vancouver in six. I would like to see Nashville get it to spite the NHL, but I am more pragmatic than that. |

2nd round has been good so far. A couple of overtime games and fun games to watch no matter what the score is. Now picks
Washington vs Tampa - Although the Caps lost Game 1, I still think they'll win the series. Expect it to go 7 Boston vs Philly - The Flyers provide a lot of lawlz with their goalie situation. Taking the Bruins in 6 Sharks vs Red Wings - Living in Detroit, It'd be awesome to see the Sharks beat the Wings again. Sharks in 6 Preds vs Canucks - I'm rooting for the Predators now since my team is out and I just want to see them actually win something for once. Preds in 7 |

The Flyers disgusted me on Saturday. Definitely not worth putting in a request off to watch that game. Right now I'm biring my nails because the FlyGuys love to scare the shit outta me.
Byte, thank you for being so supportive. XD It's not just here. I'm hearing a lot "I HATE Boston...but...." I mean....c'mon....we're not THAT bad... But WAY for the Flyers to waste their Power Play. We get one with 2:3-something left...pissed that one away, and then mucked up another chance to score in the last few seconds. O.T. now. Fuck. |
