The second installment that is online only, Final Fantasy 14 does things differently this time.

For starters, you don't technically choose a class as much as you choose a weapon. Different weapon types have the classes attached to them, so equip a polearm and you're a Lancer, equip a pickaxe and you're a Miner, equip a bow and you're an Archer, and so on.

Instead of the traditional grind for experience points, you have two experience bars at a time, one for the "class" that you are at the moment and one Physical Level bar that is your standard experience pool. How the game is set up is that no matter what you're doing, be it killing monsters, fishing or blacksmithing, you will always gain experience points! This means you can achieve the highest level by farming mining nodes and making cool weapons! With the class's bar, it goes up whenever you make use of its proficiency, which makes it gain ranks!

The graphics in this game are also amazing, bringing even my pc to its knees at about medium settings while still looking outstanding! I'm guessing in my particular case, my CPU is bottlenecking the performance, but it's not huge issue. An i7 processor and an Nvidia 400 or Radeon HD 5800 card is recommended for smooth play!

I'm not sure what to say about the community yet, as I haven't honestly taken the time to socialize, though my assumption is that it is much more of a mature fanbase than that of WoW because of the returning FFXI players (great fanbase from experience).

This title is much more straightforward than FFXI was, more user friendly and is SOLOABLE! That's right, you don't need to wait around for ages to get a group!

I'll report back later once I've played a bit more, I still have a lot left to cover!

Edit: I'm technically not supposed to be able to play for another 8 days, but I got a guest pass from a badass on Gamefaqs. That made my day!

I've gotta say, I feel 100x more badass playing a Lalafell than I ever have as a Tarutaru!

I even have a goatee!

is it true you can only play for 8 hours? As in, level up for 8 hours and have to wait a week?

I heard this awhile back and was wondering how in the holy hamburger will this work?

E- If I ever play this game I will choose the shot people. LOOK HOW CUTE THEY LOOK AWWWWWWWWW

Well, I've basically been playing it nonstop and I've still been able to level just fine, EASILY more than 8 hours, so I'm thinking that it was just a rumor.

And yes, Lalafell are the freaking best!

Alrighty, large bump. There were some glaring flaws during the launch, which were to be expected of course, but most of them were put to the grave with the latest update. No more UI lag, you're able to sort items, mobs drop a fixed amount of experience instead a random amount based on how many times you hit them, a noticeable framerate boost...

Yeah, that's the stuff. Now we just need to work on some juicy content, SquareEnix. Damn near all of the NPCs (outside of vendors, the guildleve counter and a certain few mission NPCs) have nearly no interaction whatsoever... How about some real quests? Perhaps with a content update in the future, I'm hoping.

Next month brings in Notorious Monsters, the big baddies that took finesse to fell in Final Fantasy XI, and new guildleves, among other changes and additions!

Stay tuned, Xeogaming.

Edit- Oh yeah, I rerolled as a Duskwight Elezen, though I really miss my Lalafell...

Can you still only gain XP for 8 hours a week?

As far as only gaining experience, yes, that limit is in place. However, you'll only hit it if you only play a single class and you play almost 24/7. I play 5 hours at a time and I haven't even come close to seeing this limit yet. It's pretty much there to stop bots and RMT, and I can see it working.
