Well, I beat it. I already vowed after playing the first three missions that I would not play this game again until I got myself my own copy following my own gaming rig. But man, this game is too good to be true.

10+ years since the last Starcraft; does it live up to it's expectations?

Yes, and so much more.

There are so many things I could talk about. But I don't have a lot of time left to make this post. I gotta get up in the morning for work.

For starters: as I have already said it does live up to it's expectations. Granted I did not play the beta testing phase. But I did get to mess around with the editor a couple of days before launch. That, and the same day the game came out, I got a chance to play the first three missions on a decent computer (Medium settings)

Don't let this game fool you on the computer hardware department. This game will take a lot out of your graphics card / processor. If you can run WoW at the highest settings at a constant 60+ FPS. You will be able to run Starcraft II on Medium on a steady 25-30FPS. It's that taxing. The most up-to-date radeon graphics card can run this game on Ultra at about 40-55FPS. Which will run you up to about 350+ dollars. So before you hit that ultra button, you might want to consider your card's functionality.

Now, onto the bread and biscuits: This game is a lot like how Mario 3 was introduced in the NES era. This game kicks your ass so hard that your ancestors will feel it. Now granted, it's not a complete story, sure; there is enough in this game that will last you years to come. From the replayable campaign, Battle.net 2.0, to people making mods, and the community. This game has it all. Purchasing Starcraft II is like buying a thousand games in one. Thanks to the modding community, you could get through battle.net a FPS/ RPG, Tower defense, Tetris, you name it. It's there. Even before the game came out there were a lot, and I mean A LOT of mods made for it. And that was from the editor that had about 10% of the actual content from the full game!

I could list Youtube videos for DAYS.

All in all, if you have a great gaming PC. Pick this fucking game up. If you have friends who bought this game. They will have a 7 hour demo for you to try out. I don't have any, but I can ask my friend if he is able to spare a trial for you guys to try out.

That's all the time I have for now. Next post I will try to talk about the gameplay.

One of my favorite missions:

Spoiler:
Where you see what Zeratul sees. You get to do a couple missions where you can control him. But "A Sinister Turn" is by far one of my favorites. There is a Zerg / Protoss hybrid that threatens to destroy a protoss base you are building and will not die unless you can turn the preservatives to your side. What really blew me away was the Zerg / Protoss hybrid? Really? Holy --

You do get some excellent Protoss and Zerg technology if you do those missions though. Well worth it. And fun.

The video is not spoiling anything:

Yeah, I've just done the first mission with Zeratul.

I felt like I was Solid Snake, and the end was just insane.

This game completely and absolutely sucks. You know why?

Because I'm out of money, and really want to play this. And probably won't have the money until a long time from now.

Well, that's probably better than not having a computer that probably can't handle this.

Though my friend says it's pretty well optimized? Might have to borrow it from him sometime if I can...

Dunno if it's well optimized, but at least it can choose settings properly (everything on highest settings, in my case)

I read the rest of your post Vulkar. But this statement pops up for all the wrong reasons.

A ton of people are pissed at Blizzard that the other two expansions are just going to be campaign and should have just been a part of the actual game. Granted, I can understand why people are upset, but Blizzard has already commented that they are going to add new elements to the game per expansion. Like new units, buildings, etc. Which will probably take forever and a day to come out; but hey. Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty already alone is well worth the money you put down on it. You get a seriously large campaign, Bnet 2.0, the community that mods the game (The editor is INSANE. Think LBP meets...well Starcraft), and Blizzard constantly updates the game to fix / create more maps for people to play online. So that alone is enough to purchase the game.

As long as the "expansions" aren't fully priced, I think that'd be nice...

But yeah, sounds like the Terran campaign itself is pretty huge. And I've seen some stuff on the level editor, people making Final Fantasy games out of them, Off-road racing, 3rd person shooters, etc etc etc, it looks ridiculous.

Bought it today, love the campaign thus far. It's ridiculously good, and actually has some variety, not just "Build an army and blow up your foe."

And that "escape wall of fire" mission too.

It took me two tries to get through the first Odin mission. But once you know how to deal with it it's not that bad. But I know where you are coming from.

Also, a lot of people are debating about 2 SCV per build vs Auto gas build. Personally I go with auto, less food; it takes longer to build SCVs (In the long run I feel it's better so more SCVs can harvest minerals and take up that much less food)

Since I work for Activision | Blizzard, I get a free copy of the game.

That's right, kids, a free copy of a $50 game that I don't even play. So, what am I going to do with my copy? Give it to a close webcomic creator friend.

Just like when I gave my 1 year free subscription to World of Warcraft to a friend's girlfriend. I did keep the E3 party invite, the Transformers T-shirt, and the Activision t-shirt, though.

I would love to play Starcraft, but all of my PCs can't handle it since I haven't owned a desktop since the mid-90s. Laptops all of them, and none of them gaming machines.

Blast!

You could at least give away those 7 hour free trial keys to members of the community. I know there are a few of us here who wants to try the game out and see if their computer can handle it.

I mean if your computer can handle WoW on max, then it should run fine on medium (Which looks great). If it can handle much higher games on higher settings then you will run SC2 just fine on Insane levels.

My dad's computer does not have a great graphics card. But it can run Medium at 40FPS just fine (Ran him about 600 bucks last year).

E- Lemmie ask my two friend if they are willing to give away a couple of keys and I will get back with you guys. If you purchase the game you get PLENTY of those keys to hand out to your friends. That was the way my dad played it and he LOVED it. He isn't even a gamer like me but somehow he found starcraft sexually attractive.

I have two of these keys, myself.

Drop a message if you want one.

EDIT: and two for WoW, if anyone cares.

Well, the game and the keys are going to my friend. He can do whatever he wants with the keys.

If I decide that I want the game, I'd have to upgrade to Vista/7 and get a proper graphics card, bump up the RAM as well. But, I don't want to play Starcraft. I'm good. But, if I want another copy, I'm allowed one more at $10.

Purchasing a MSI N460GTX CYCLONE 1GD5/OC GeForce GTX 460 nets you 7 free hours of the game. Also, this card is MORE than capable of playing SC2 on Ultra under a 22" monitor resolution. Any higher is fine so long as you don't have over 800 enemies on the screen.

Either way, for $200 bucks, it's a good card. Also, it's not huge, and will possibly fit inside of your computer.

It's the card I am going to purchase. And I have seen this card in action. Holds 70+ FPS framerats on SC2, and will more than likely hold Diablo 3 reasonably well. Best bang for the buck.

So if you want to play this game on the highest settings. Buy this card.

E- To clarify I have seen this card in action with an i5 Intel core Processor. AMD? It should run at about 60FPS. For some strange reason, AMD 3 cores run SC2 poor compared to a Dual Core Intel Processor. But either way you still get good gameplay value from this card.

Ultra just looks pretty. Having the game on Medium looks just as pretty without all the shadows running about on the screen. I think this card was able to run on Medium at about 80FPS? Not sure, I need to do some more tests.
