I have seen through some of the message boards that finding a gamer chick to be with is a very hard thing for nerd guys. I really understand them as far as where they are coming from. I hear now a days it's hard to find someone that even KNOWS what Magic the Gathering is or even played Super Mario Brothers when it comes to girls. My husband has received numerous envy looks when he shows his friends a picture of me with a manga, marvel comic book, or even sitting down on the game cube, ps2, or 360 playing a video game.
My question to you is, do you think that Gamer Girls are a dying breed of girl? Or is it just a South East thing? |

**shrugs** I don't know. I never really paid attention to it, to tell you the truth, I'm only beginning to notice the idea of nerd girls being a rare thing. Although I don't think they're a dying breed. I think they just might not have been as large as the male nerd population. And by not large, I mean not even close. I know I'm a nerd, and I'm a girl. But I always had more guy friends than girl friends, so I was always "one of the only" in my group when it came to the notion of girls.
That's probably also because as a little kid, the cousins and kids around my neighborhood that were closest to my age were boys. My mom would rather me hang around boys and turn out to be a tomboy than let me be 10 years old and hanging around my teenage girl cousins, so it was encouraged to be a tomboy, in a sense. And that's another part that you might be missing. Most nerd girls I've ever met were considered tomboys as well. XD But in the past few years, I'm seeing more and more couples come into my store, where the girl knows what she wants and isn't in a videogame store because her boyfriend is. More younger girls are getting into video games too, it seems, so who knows, maybe us nerd girls here are a little bit ahead of the game? Just born a little later than most others like us? Haha I dunno. Rogue is the holy grail of a nerd girl. Let's see what she thinks. (Yes, is it sad that I'm embarassed to not be as "nerdy" as others? It's like the more I know and am into comics/games/etc, the better. XD) |

I felt like I knew a lot about comics, and then a couple years ago, I spent the summer hanging out in the library reading graphic novels and I felt PUMPED going into Comic-Con the next month. Feels like there's always more to know about, though. I think those guys might just be looking in the wrong places, because every con I've been to is PACKED with geek/nerd girls. In fact, it's seems like every year there's more and more of them. It's always funny to me when fanboys, movies, shows, society, etc make jokes about the lack of women in the geek world. "Ohhhhh, a girl!! I'm scared." They even made that joke when I guested on the comics talk radio show at my university. Anyway... it's funny to me because it's just so wrong, at least here in Southern California, hell Cali in general. |

I have to agree with Rogue. There are plenty of us nerd girls. However, something I notice with guys who say they are looking for a nerd girl, is they are looking for one that looks like a super model or porn stars. There are plenty of beautiful nerd girls, they just don't fit into a size 0 and have double D boobs. I think guys searching for a nerd girl need to look beyond looks.

Exactly. I remember always thinking how I was one of the few gamer girls, then I went to a gaming convention and learned that we are far more numerous than people think. Sure, male nerds still outnumber us but who cares?
As my dear WhiteRose has said though, the problem really is that like all guys, nerds look at appearance more than personality. To be fair though, so do women... we just have a broader category. |

With rare exception, that doesn't happen. Granted I don't think us gamer girls look bad or anything but let's face it, eating all the junk food that is standard gamer fare does not lend to skinny jeans. |

Originally posted by Elara I giggled most heartily at that one. It's so true. XD If it weren't for the fact that my job doesn't lend to sitting down. At all. And I take public transportation, so getting my ass to the bus stops is a factor. With all the Mountain Dew I drink, cherry taffies and gushers fruit snacks I eat, and the sitting and drawing, sitting and gaming, sitting and reading, sitting and typing...all the sitting I do...I'm not very healthy. Hell, I get so lazy, I said to my sister once "I'm done for the day. I stood in the shower for 45 minutes, rather than sitting in the bath." Hi! I'm Kat. I play games, like movies, read comics and graphic novels, can hold my own in talk of sports, cars...I'm sorta kinda tiny, but, I'm lazy, inhabit the habits of dudes that aren't so flattering, have no boobs, and my voice will grate on the inside of your skull until your eyes explode and blood pours from your ears. You boys can't have it all. XD XD XD (Last edited by Katana on 06-22-10 03:38 PM) |

The best girls I know are gamer girls, and the few that are at work at Activision aren't fat. They have the kickin' looks (being a gay man, I can partially judge), are fun, and kick my ass in most games. I love them.

Lucky broads, how I envy them. But I am fine, since I know I am cute, lol.
And next time they call you a nerd, just raise your fist for nerd pride! ... I signed high school yearbooks with that, a fist clutching a magnifying glass and underneath "Nerd Pride!" Yes, that is how lame I am, lol. |

Originally posted by ValhallaOriginally posted by Elara I agree. Intelligence more than anything, but I'm not extremely picky about it. I'll settle for average, but all those 'hot' girls that dont even know how to do simple, first grade algebra....I just want to kill them. As for looks, of course every guy wants a good looking girl, but I think personality shapes looks even moreso than the actual looks. Keep trucking, nerds And yeah, make sure its 3.5, Yasu. |

This thread is making it sound like all attractive girls are stupid as shit.
Personality can exist in a good-looking person. I wouldn't ever be with someone who I didn't find physically attractive. |

Honestly, I would go to Pathfinder rules over 3.5 even... though 3.5 is awesome. The Pathfinder system did what WotC should have done when they went to 4e.
Anyway, on the comments of Seijika and Cairoi, I agree. Like I said, gamer girls are not ugly, but I do notice more often than not they don't look like supermodels either. Hell, even I have had many a relationship so clearly guys find me attractive, but I will not deny that I am overweight. |
