So, we're reaching this really odd point in our lives where when a celebrity dies we're actually able to identify in our minds who they were, why people are sad, and in some ways it strikes us with this random feeling of shock as though we'd just talked with them this morning, and they seemed fine, and oh my GOD?! What kind of a world do we live in?!?!?!?! Not Paul Gray, NOOOOOO!!!!
Anyway... Gary Coleman passed away yesterday after being taken off life support. News reports were pouring in and Facebook was spammed with thousands of RIP messages for the fallen actor. Today, Dennis Hopper was claimed by prostate cancer. I feel really surreal about his passing in that a week ago, to the hour almost, I was discussing him with my boyfriend on if Dennis was dead or not. I had remembered his name being in the news for something and we had just watched "Speed." With much respect for the departed, what are your thoughts? |

Honestly, not to be that guy. But i have been incredibly unmoved by the more recent deaths in Hollywood. When the infomercial guy died alot of my friends were kind of faking that they had an attachment to him. Seriously, no child ever had an honest to God attachment to a man that sold products that they did not buy.
Its terrible though When Heath Ledger died my immediate thought was "Oh man. I wonder if the dark knight was finished" when I found out it was, my next thought was "Oh man. I wonder if they finished the imaginarium of doctor parnassus" They did not. and that is what disappointing me. - Luckily the movie ruled. When Michael Jackson died. I did stop but shorty after I started to wonder what was going to happen to the Beatles songs now. So ah So yeah |

I'm still noticing that they are dropping like flies. I mean, since last year it seems that every time you turn around another celebrity is dead. Is someone going around with a sniper rifle picking them off?
And why are all the good ones dying and leaving all the crap? Why can't Paris Hilton die? Or one of the other reality show bimbos? Not fair. |

You know that one that really stung for some reason? George Carlin. It was like finding out my favorite uncle had been shot or something. Shit, man.
But still, I've gotta agree. It feels like there's a few every month or so. |

When Gary Coleman died, I heard Gary Oldman, and I was going to freak the FUCK out. I mean, it is very sad that Gary Coleman died, especially with all of the trials and tribulations he had to deal with, but man, I'd be devastated if Oldman passed by anytime soon. | |||

The only celebrity death that effected me fairly recently was Michael Jacksons and Brittany Murphy.
Michael Jackson, because I was on a retreat, far away from media and all things like that and I was on the car ride back and someone said "and with Michael Jackson dead now.." and I was like "wait, WHAT?" Brittany, because I had just recently seen a movie marathon of movies she happened to be in. So it was kind of random for her to disappear. |

Just now, I turned to Brandon and said, "Hey, Clint Eastwood... he just turned 80."
"I thought you were going to say he died..." I think I'd be really upset if he died, but damn, so many celeb deaths are setting some of us on edge apparently. |

Originally posted by Seijika I am highly inclined to agree... The Gary cole/oldman thing happened to me too, Cairoi. I would have been deeply upset if it was him. But honestly, mainly for reasons like Phoenix mentioned. I'm starting to see and appreciate him for the wonderful actor he is. So I guess it's more or less out of entertainment. I think comedians, like George Carlin, are different though. Despite whether or not we can ever know these people in person, and really know them, not at just some book signing, have a decent conversation and be on your merry way, comedians still seem to be better able to connect to us on a personal level. But i guess that goes with the whole making us laugh when we're down kinda thing...and comedians seem to push a LOT of envelopes, like Mr. Carlin did, that changed the way entertainment is forever. |
