So my really good friend Abby, who I love to pieces,is sick again. And not the antibiotics and chicken soup kind of sick, her cancer is back.
See, about 3 years ago, right after she had her daugthter, she started getting sick, and not in the normal way.So she went to the doctor, after doing like a million tests she was diagnosed with ovarion cancer. With chemo she faught it off,but a week ago, when she went in for her check up, they ran the tests (like normal) but this time, they came back with the response we didn't want. She's been in remission for 2 years, and now it's back. I'm moving into her apt with her to help because she's going to be taking concentrated doses of chemo once a week. She's not going to be able to do it alone, she's going to lose her long beatiful red hair, and she's going to be sick.
The worst of it, she's asked me,that in the event of her not being able to win the fight this time,if I would take care of her 3 year old.Sort of a mother figure, so that she will know about her mother.
I don't know what to do, and honestly, it doesn't help that a week after my own birthday this past year, my favorite uncle passed suddenly and without warning from a brain tumor.Life's a bit of a stressful mess right now, but saying all this has made me feel better.

I'm so sorry to hear all this, Twisted, and I don't know what I could say to make you feel better that wouldn't sound like a cliche.

It's wonderful that you're there for your friend, and it's absolutely awful that she has to be put in this situation, especially with a child.

All you can do is be there for her, which you are. You're doing great.

I'm also very sorry to hear about your uncle. I know what it's like to have a birthday shrouded with such pain (my dad was in the hospital on my birthday a couple years ago).

Just be there for Abby and her daughter. Life sucks, but it sucks less when you have loved ones to ease the shitty parts.

*hug* *hug for Abby*

This really is not an easy time for you or your friend, and like Rogue, I really don't know what to say that doesn't sound cheep and cliche.

I know that it is a lot to handle, but in a way it is an honor to be thought of as the person that she wants you taking care of her child, and that has to be a bit touching, right? I know it is most likely also very tough to even think about, but hopefully it won't come to that.

She fought off the cancer before, with your support let us hope that she can do it again. It sucks that she will loose her hair, but her life is worth more than that... and it can grow back again. Be sure to give her our sympathies and let her know we are rooting for her, other than that all I can say is to just keep being the good friend you have been and try to ease the crappiness of the situation.

Thanks guys, being able to vent really helped, and thank you for your support...It never ceases to amaze, you guys don't even really know me, but you're still incredibly kind and supportive.Thank you.
*UPDATE* Abby feels terrible most the time from the chemo, but the Drs are hopeful, they think that with the treatments and care both at home and at the hospital she should be able to pull through. They can't guarentee a 100% on anything yet because of how early it still is , but everyone's hopeful.
Again, thank you.The words really mean a lot.And I showed her daughter how even people that don't know her mommy are sending kind thoughts and hope. It was very sweet, she wanted to have a play day with everyone to say thank you. (she didn't quite understand that people are far away.
I do feel honored that my friend asks this of me, I know that if I were in her situation I could ask the same of her.
And it's ok to sound cliche...how sad is it that that rhymes? The kindness of the thought is enough.

So far so good then. I'm glad that we could be of some help. It is honestly surprising sometimes just how much the well wishes of people on the internet can affect you... I guess it just promotes the feeling that you are not alone out there in the world.
