So... it's been a big news day for some.

Charlie's Angels star Farrah Fawcett and King of Pop Michael Jackson both died today.

Thoughts?

Alright, is the joke over or what? Is this the decade of celebrity deaths?...

But seriously, weird stuff. Just came out of nowhere.

I'm not worried. I've seen Thriller, I know what happens next.

But on the real though.....this sucks. =( I idolized him as a kid. And I still look at him as an legend.

Honestly I can't think of one performer that would garner this much attention from their death.......not even Britney.

It's really sort of surreal. Ed McMahon went a couple days ago. And David Carradine 3 weeks before that.

This really sucks.

Michael Jackson's skin was 90% plastic, so after he died they melted him into Lego blocks so, ironically, children would play with him.

Okay, jokes in very poor taste aside, I used to idolize him as a child and still own 3 albums of his (Billie Jean, Bad and Dangerous) and it was quite shocking that he died as he had been out of the headlines for a while. The music industry has just lost one of it's most influential, creative and talented people and it's a shame that his final years were spent as an accused child molester when I truly believe that no such event occurred as it was probably just another white-trash family out to sue somebody better than them and ruin their reputation.

RIP Michael.

Me and my mother grew up with M.J. It's sad that the king of pop died.

Oh, well.

I do idolize him in my childhood years.

While it is weird that Michael Jackson is dead, I was sick of hearing about it about half an hour after it happened. Notice here that no one has said anything about Fawcett dying other than Rogue? Media is doing the same thing... she's become an afterthought. She died of cancer... she made a documentary of her struggle! And what does she get? "Oh, she died the same day as M.J., oh poor M.J......"

Seriously, the White House issued condolences to the Jackson family, but what about the families of Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and David Carradine? Where are their Presidential condolences? Jackson was talented back in the day, but so were these three, yet they get forgotten.

What amused me most yesterday though, ranting aside, was that people where putting flowers on the wrong Michael Jackson star on the Walk of Fame (there is also a British broadcaster who got a star with that name). Oh, silly, silly people.

Yesterday while hanging with Rey, he mentioned that this woman came into his store just shocked and appalled and walks up to him going, "Did you hear what I just read on my iPhone?"

And Rey went, "That Farrah Fawcett died?"

And the girl goes, "That was so this morning, sir!" And then proceeds to convey her sentiment for Jacko.

Rey works at an "upscale" women's clothing store that gets A LOT of snobby, prissy bitches. Not to say that this person was one, but he gets a lot of crap from rich and trendy chumps.

But yeah, completely agreed on Farrah not getting as much attention. I mean, she got a few mentions (and I'm sure there were media working on montages of her life for the evening news, but when M.J.-gate broke they probably abandoned them). When news broke, I had the CBS afternoon news on. Suddenly they had a field reporter in front of Michael's house, acting like paparazzi, and hounding whoever pulled into the driveway for an interview. I'm not even kidding when I say they spent 25 minutes on this guy shouting, "I'm from CBS 2 News! We're live RIGHT NOW!! Give us an interview!!!!" and they NEVER cut away to more news or anything. It was just dead air practically.

I'm guessing it's because Michael was constantly fresh on people's minds. People were always satirizing him, even these days (see: "Bag of Weed" song from recent Family Guy 420 episode) or bringing him up in the tabloids and so on and so forth, so the media figures a greater number might be interested hearing news about him as opposed to Farrah.

It's like if there were an earthquake on the other side of the world that killed 300,000 people and later that day Paris Hilton decided to shave her head, give up all of her worldly possessions, and become a Shaolin monk... what would more people be talking about? Not a great example, but if TMZ is any indication of what people want to hear, we're fucking doomed.

Yeah. It was ridiculous. CNN dropped coverage of all actual news to talk about the whole thing. It pissed me off to be honest.

Oh, and on one of the other boards I post on someone actually said that watching the news coverage of his death was "like watching a mini 9/11". I'm not fucking kidding, someone seriously said that.

Adult Swim said RIP to them, but they actually put Farrah Fawcett first, probably the first time in the media.

I pretty much share the same thoughts Elara, what's worse is that we've had a few death's in the family over the last couple of years and it's even more surreal and it's just a completely different thing, unfairness, etc. My condolences to the families of all the celebrities who have passed, of course, but yeah. I'm sure most of you know what I'm sayin'.

You guys, so silly. Michael was a completely different tier than Farrah. She was 70's Fap Material tier, MJ was Lord Tier. He was one of the Ultimate 55. He did that child molestation crap deliberately as an experiement to test his inner funk. It stayed intact. He made himself look like a weird alien, otherwise the minds of American youth would've exploded from the overpowering groove.

A country in South America exploded when he died. Ever hear of Costitores? Yeah well you never will now.

Lisa Marie's blog post about Michael

It's a shame the comments were inundated with a troll calling themselves "Michael PEdo."

Fuck Michael Jackson.. Fuck him. There. I fucking said it. Fuck that pedophile piece of garbage.

Seriously; MJ was the shit before his decline into perversities. He died when he started doing that shit, and I mourned him then. World keeps on turning. Johnny Cash and George Carlin were two gigantic entertainment losses. Michael Jackson (at least in this moment in time) is not. He was a creep. His old music, though was kick-fuckin'-ass. End of story.

A bit much... but in some ways I agree.

What I keep finding funny is people talking about how great he was and how good his music was but the most recent thing that I hear them playing is "Bad". Maybe once I heard Black or White... so yeah, I don't think there was a single song past 1992.

But yeah, Oni and WhiteRose called me with a few jokes the day it happened.

"What is the deterioration rate of plastic?"
"I dunno, what is it?"
"Ask Michael Jackson in 100 years"

rofl

But yeah. It doesn't help when news casters are saying how he "touched the world" and your mind adds to that "one little boy at a time"

My biggest problem with all this coverage of Michael Jackson's death is quite simple.

In life, the media made a big deal about all his fuckups. Now they're acting like it's such a big loss and completely ignoring the fuckups.

Now, I'm not going to touch the topic of his misdeeds. I simply hate the hypocrisy in the news coverage and, y'know what? Yeah, I expect that shit from them all the time, but this is just a perfect illustration.
