I bought these games around my way brand new for $60, the Gamecube versions btw. I was thinking about this, why doesn't Capcom remake these game using the engine of RE4 for the new systems?
Imagine how much bread the big C would make off the game if they were remade... ^^; These games are still hot, who here has/still plays these games? |

I think that everybody here has played these at least once or twice and most of us would personally love these with the RE4 engine.
A big limit nowadays is money and standards. The original games didn't have the greatest voice acting (Jill! Don't open... *loading* ... that door!) so they would have to be re-dubbed. Also, the game would have to be built from the ground up because the original ones didn't have full 3d environments to utilize the engine itself. Sure, we'd all like to see them but they probably won't happen. |

Thanks for reminding me that I still need to beat every pre-RE4 Resident Evil game.
I don't even think I got that far into the first two, guess I gave up real easily... |

Xeo, you must play RE1 Remake for GC. I actually hold that higher than RE4. Everything about that one was pure awesome and scares.
Now, the RE2 remake...they put about 1/10th of the effort of the first remake. It looks ugly as shit, and apparently doesn't play all that awesome in the end. RE2 is still good, though, so. *shrug* I wouldn't want to see the first RE games in the RE4 engine because it just wouldn't work to the same extent. RE1 would need to somehow fit 10 zombies into the cramped house and have it crazo. It'd just end up losing a bunch of the scare factor, too. RE4 was made for the RE4 engine. The others were not. They'd have to completely change everything, another possible reason why they haven't yet. |

I really don't like RE4.
I've played/watched almost all of the Resident Evil games... I haven't played any of the remakes though (Cept for DS which doesn't really count and RE1) Iunno, if the RE4 engine was used on them, it wouldn't feel like I was playing RE. (I prefer the walk around to the FPS) Anyways, I still play most of them. I still need to actually beat RE2. |

Originally posted by Poli T That's actually how I've played the original, I own the GC remake. I got farther in this one than others I've played ... but still probably not that far at all. I think I had just gotten out of the first building/part of the mansion or whatever and there was a shack with some weird old woman / monster or some crap that would always kill me. I guess I just gave up. I don't know why either, since I love these kinds of games (despite what some say about the camera issues, controls, etc). Same thing happened with the Dino Crisis games, I got fairly far into those and just stopped playing. I hate how the RE2 and RE3 GC remakes were basically just ports with nothing new. That and they usually sell for quite a bit which doesn't make any sense. I just picked them up on the PSX for like $10 a peice awhile back. So here I am getting excited about RE5 when I probably won't understand the story at all. (Last edited by Xeu on 01-22-09 08:05 PM) |

Is RE your favorite then? I don't even think I gave RE3 a shot... I didn't like Zero at all. Just simply hated having to switch between the two characters. Couldn't get into Code Veronica either. I should really try to go through the first three though. |

Yeah, the remake of the first one for Gamecube is my favorite RE game. <3
I didn't get to play much of Zero. I need to try my hand at it again. |

Suddenly, I'm obsessed with these games all over again. I never finished a pre-RE4 game until just now, I beat RE3. I basically played all day yesterday and a bit today... only took 7 and a half hours, so I'm surprised at how short and easy it was! I say that because the first two certainly seemed a lot more challenging and more in depth, storywise (guess I always hear that about RE2 though). Still, I'm not complaining at all, RE3 was an absolute blast. The Nemesis was fun, I've always been a fan of those bosses that take thousands of times to kill (Liquid! heh).
So upon finished RE3, I am now going to go back and restart RE2. After that I think I'll definitely consider REmake again without giving up and maybe even Zero? I hear mixed things about Zero, I remember not liking the partner thing at all, but maybe I'll give it a shot again. I also ordered the PS2 version of Code Veronica ... despite owning the Dreamcast one already, haha. Just too lazy to hookup my Dreamcast, it was very cheap anyways. Also on a somewhat related note, anyone know of more obscure PS1 titles like the RE series? I don't know why, regardless of almost never finishing these kinds of games, I love them to death. Fear Effect, Dino Crisis, Galerians, Parasite Eve (really need to play more of this one and holy hell is the second expensive! must be very rare). I'm dying to know of more like this on the PS1, I think there was some game of this style a friend of mine showed me in like 6th grade... and for some reason I really want to figure out what it was, lol. |
