So there's a ridiculous amount of speculation going around over the Large Hadron Collider--that it'll create these black holes and destroy the Earth.

Is it going to be the end?

Oh no! Let's all panic!

Not really, no point in sweating over it. Whatever happens, happens.

Even if it does create a black hole, it wont be big enough to sustain itself, and it will die out in short time.

That is, if Hawking's theory is correct, but I don't doubt that guy at all.

It's really ironic being in this timezone when it get switched on.

Multiple papers in various places of the world have reported what time in their part of the world it's going to happen, and comparing it to my timezone (Pacific standard time), looks like it's midnight for us.

Oh joy... midnight. The end of the world. Who watches the... 5 Minutes to...

Maybe I won't bother studying for my history exam tomorrow.

Stephen Hawking bet 50 pounds that they won't find that elusive factor these scientists are looking for.

Hmm, I guess you all were right.

Dang those black holes, tearing up the world right now, only mere hours until we're all...sucked away!

Actually as some articles have been putting it, the machine is still "warming up" and it'll be at least 2 weeks until they finally try to pull off the Big Bang simulation. Right now they're just doing test runs with smaller amounts of protons.

So the end of the world has been postponed.

In the meantime, this is an amusing article: 30 Days the World Didn't End

EDIT: Speaking of which a girl in Pakistan killed herself yesterday thinking the world was going to end today: http://www.sindhtoday.net/south-asia/19499.htm

.......... Okay, I'm going to clear things up a bit so that nobody here at Xeogaming ends up a DUMBASS like people elsewhere who are, from what clips and links you all have provided, apparently COMPLETELY oblivious to how the LHC works and what is going to happen.

First of all let me give an extremely simple physics lesson on black holes. Black holes are created when large amounts of matter are condensed into a tiny size (proportional to the amount of it), creating a strong gravity well which sucks everything in. Let me say it again in case somebody doesn't understand. Black holes are created when LARGE amounts of matter are condensed into a tiny size. Look for the key word there.
This is what happens when some stars go supernova. They can no longer produce enough nuclear power to sustain their massive size and the gravity from all the matter it has causes the poor thing to collapse on itself. Think of it this way. If a person weighed about 2000 pounds all the fat and whatever would crush him because his bones and muscle wouldn't be strong enough to support such a massive weight. It's the same idea. Common sense, right? So, with that said think about this: would a few particles smashing into each other be cause to create a black hole big enough to consume the Earth? Granted, it's a stream of many protons. Do you see black holes forming when two cars crash into each other? If you do, you're probably high. When particles hit they explode to other, tinier particles. Not combine and condense. If this happened, then two cars crashing into each other would begin to quickly merge into one glob of metal. Common sense. The LHC follows the natural laws of the universe.

Second, for those who don't understand what's supposed to be researched, the LHC was built to create a much higher percentage of finding the elusive Higgs boson. This particle would confirm the missing links of the Standard Model of physics and possibly explain how other particles acquire mass. In other words, if they find this particle, there could be research to make things completely weightless. Theoretically.

Lastly, and this will be very strange to you all, the universe is not a smooth vacuum as most people might think. It is actually filled with sub-atomic black holes going into and out of existence. Everywhere. But they are too small to react with anything. So as you wave your hand while saying "good-bye" to your friend, you fingers and lips are passing through dozens of micro black holes without you even knowing. I know about all this because read about science stuff as much as a porn addict goes to porn sites.

It frustrates me to see people coming up with doomsday theories about this. I won't even go into the whole "strangelets" or quark stars/strange stars thing. And about the moron who claims the LHC is Satan's Gateway? What the fuck, guy?! Go to hell.

Thank you, Cyro. T-T

They're also looking for those other dimensions that the human eyes cannot see (as the human eye can only see 3 dimensions). Scientists suspect that there are 9 or 10 dimensions. There is even the possibility of quantum physics, time travel and antimatter (like in that Dan Brown book...).

dun dun dun....

Come on Cyro, and I was about to start a new business that helps people spend as much of their money as possible, because in a couple weeks it wouldn't matter!

NOW how am I supposed to trick them into giving me lots of money, and then be disappointed when the world didn't end. How can I do that?!
