Yahoo! is hosting an Open Hack Day event September 12 - 13 on the Yahoo! Sunnyvale campus. Basically, you'll be able to build and code stuff for free, get a tour of the Yahoo! HQ campus, get food and drink, and do that whole messing around with stuff. Who knows, it might just get you a job/internship at Yahoo!

Employees aren't allowed to participate, but we're allowed to attend both the event and after party and concert afterward. Therefore, I'm extending this out to the older crowd of you (those in the 18, or about to be 18, and older range that don't need parental supervision) to register on our site and get your invite early.

If you've got questions, let me know, and I'll see what I can do. No, I won't provide transportation and we won't be seeing my cube...maybe.

Ok update!

The event is public-only, therefore Yahoos cannot participate, however, we can help to a degree. I will be volunteering on two days of the event.

Go to Hack Day.org and process your invitation/registration for the event soon.

The event is free, food will be provided, and there are talks of a concert after the entire event. There will be prizes given for competitions and such, and much fun! It will take place on the Yahoo! Sunnyvale (701 First Ave, Sunnyvale, CA) campus on Friday the 12th and Saturday the 13th of September.

We will have an internal IRC set up for the event, and a separate WiFi network for all participants. So, come and see what Yahoo! has in store for events and junk.

I am only willing to help out with transportation to/from public transit systems in the area (VTA, CalTrain, ACE), but possibly only on Saturday, as I will be working on Friday and I normally take VTA to work.

Contact me again if you still need more info.

Not to double-post, but I had to update the status on Yahoo! Hack Day since no one else replied.

You can find more information here: Yahoo! Hack Day @ brewninja.com.

Not when it's sponsored by Yahoo! It's not a hack in the term of breaking into something. It's working in outlandish and un-thought-of ways to achieve a goal. The tools are provided, the programming environments are explained, and then tasks are given.

It's like giving you a bunch of legos and water pumps and asking you to build a functioning refrigerator. That sort of hack. Not in the typical Hollywood sense of breaking into a server to do what-have-you within it.

This is an intellectual event, meant for those that are programmers, electricians, and other little DIY dabblers. Mostly as an introduction to the new Yahoo! API technologies, and possibly to find new people for the organization. Only the isolated ignorant would believe that hackers are evil and gather for the purpose of taking down organizations. That may be true for a few, but does not represent the many.

Watch this, and educate yourself:
