I'm not impressed easily, especially by movies. I've never been a Heath Ledger fan and I never particularly liked Batman... Well, disregard everything I just said. This movie was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I cannot stress it enough! I loved how they made the joker an insane mastermind and not a retarded goofball like how he was always portrayed before, yet he has that comedic element the entire way.

Spoiler:
The disappearing pencil is now officially my favorite part in any movie ever made.

Edit: Cool, I was using the "greater than", "less than" symbols, lol.

Spoiler:
So there's some debate going on about what may be a hint for the next movie. When Alfred is describing Batman's suit Bruce asks if it protects against dogs. Alfred then says "it protects against cats". Apparently I wasn't the only one that thought this was fan service regarding Catwoman. Although some people think that's not the case.

What do you think?

I really hope not...

I'm hoping that the next storyline will have Bane, who, in his first story, was really pretty awesome.

For those who don't know, he broke Batman's back, leaving him crippled for a long time, so Bruce had to pick a new guy to be Batman. Of course, then this new guy started causing problems and going against many of Batman's ideals, so Bruce eventually fought with the new Batman, and fun chaos insued.

That sounds like an awesome Batman movie, agreed?

Or they could go with No Man's Land storyline, where the USA declared that Gotham City was no longer part of the United States, and lots of unhappy chaos insued. Of course, that storyline focused a lot on Two Face as the villian, so it would be hard to pull off.

Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Bane, or Mr. Freeze are the only logical choices for the next movie. We'll see, eh?

EDIT: I'm rooting for Bane or Poison Ivy, to be honest, but Catwoman would be awesome.

I think Kate Beckinsale would make a good Catwoman.

Why?

I've seen Wikipedia throw the name "The Riddler" around for the third movie.

as for the Dark Knight, I absolutely loved all the comparisons (both subtle and unsubtle) made between the Joker and a mad dog.

finally, something interesting i noticed that really made Joker's role in this movie amazing:
Spoiler:
While in the interrogation room, the Joker says something along the lines of how you can tell a lot about a man right before he's going to die. Fast foward to the climactic confrontation between Batman and the Joker, when Joker is sent flying down the building. What is he doing? He is laughing. Right before he's about to die, he's laughing. Brilliant.

No, because there are high chances they'd cast Halle Barry.

Are you serious?! They wouldn't hire Halle Barry EVER. This series of Batman movies don't do shit like that. They proved it when they hired Heath Ledger. They're about reinventing the characters to fit in this universe. they wouldn't hire an actress that butchered the role, let alone someone who did it good. (e.g, Jack Nicholson).

Ehhh. The Riddler is a lot like the Joker. I guess it's logical, but it seems like it would just be doing the same thing.

i feel that the way the Joker was presented in Dark Knight eliminates any redundancy the third movie would have if the Riddler was the main villain.

but as you said, we'll see.

also...was it just me or did anyone else feel kind of bad for the Scarecrow, who got literally 5 minutes of screen time in the movie? He was a bit more badass in the comics, I think. Seriously...he was tazed in the first movie...and then he gets owned in five minutes in the second one. damn.

Yeah, I thought he was going to be actually important in this one.

I think they should do a slightly more obscure villain, like Clayface or Hush.

That's what I was saying myself, the Joker was just batshit insane in this while still being incredibly brilliant and cunning. Most of his plans went flawlessly and the police, Batman, etc, funked up more than a few times. The only way I could see the Riddler working and being different from this is if he stayed in background more and just left "clues" out there or whatever, but yeah.

I'd say Nolan's depiction of the Joker here is easily one of the best. Especially in the sense that it was obvious the Joker didn't really want Batman dead, he wanted them to both go at it like that endlessly. Really chaotic.

@FX: As much as I love Clayface, I think that's pushing the limits of realism for Nolan's films here if they brought him in. I think Hush would be really interesting though.

True, they've been avoiding superpowered stuff.

Hush would be really interesting, because of the character dynamics, which is something Nolan is really into.

I've been thinking: what if they introduce Robin? True, Robin is the least respected superhero next to Aquaman, but I think they could do it. We've already got Batman impersonators trying to fight crime, so what if one of them just manages to get it right? Especially with Batman in his current situation, he could be somewhat successful at taking his place. Who knows; if anyone can do it, it's Nolan.

Also, in retrospect, I doubt they'd use someone like Hush, who would directly attack Batman/Bruce. It'd have to be someone causing much more threat in order to fit the last lines of the movie:

Spoiler:
"He's the hero we deserve, but not the one we need right now." Or something along those lines. Something would have to come along to make them need someone like him... or something.

Saw it last night finally, utterly amazing. I was sort of disappointed in how short-lived Two Face was, though (but not as bad as Scarecrow).

There's only one logical next villain: The Penguin

Dun dun dunnnn.

Just watch, just to piss you all off Christopher Nolan will pick Cat Man and Captain Boomerang for the Caped Crusader, or whatever he chooses to name the third movie.

The Gruff Voiced Guardian is going to be the title of the third one. Seriously, I can understand making your voice deeper, but what Bruce was doing just got silly in the longer dialogues.

@FX: If they do Robin...I will lose all hope for humanity, abandon the Batman films forever, and hide in a closest until I die.

Seriously, Batman works alone, having him communicate with another hero just ruins the whole thing. Besides, if they wanted to show Robin in a very good light, they'd have to show him do something that Batman fails at, and Batman failing...just...no.

They should totally bring in the Bat Dog though, xD.

Anyway, that said, after thinking about it, I think that if they did the Riddler right, they could have him be the next villian. Sure, his comic book version is very similiar to Joker, but if he was in Christopher Nolan's world, he could be altered to be a little less insane, and be more of a genius who happens to be working against Batman.

Also, if you wanted to stretch it a bit more...have Riddler working with the police, at least for a little while, doing crimes for which he never gets caught, until Batman reveals his true colors.

Yeah, still a bit lame, that's why I like Bane as the next villain...
