Anyone else do this?
I've never really been into bitching about products and services, but I've found myself doing it like every other month all of a sudden. I feel like Grandpa Simpson (like in the old episodes, when the Simpsons was funny) when he used to write the most ridiculous letters to various companies and publications. If only any of them were on YouTube. Anyway, I try to reserve letter-writing for things that are just plain inexcusable. I hate to come off like something of a tattle-tale, but sometimes it's just downright unacceptable, especially when you're paying good money for something. So yeah, any other letter-writers? I guess it's just something that comes horribly with age. Or possibly just boredom. |

I e-mailed the mayor a little while ago for a broken stoplight, if that counts. It never turned green for me, and nearly always made me late. Fortunately, he fixed it quickly.
So does that make me a letter writer? |

In a sense, yes, that is writing a letter of dissatisfaction, so yeah Vulkar you are a letter-writer.
In my first college English class, they wanted us to write letters to various companies about being unhappy with a service or product and send it out. At the time I just thought it was annoying to do that, so I wrote a fake letter about Regal Cinemas which I had to read in class, and never sent it. Didn't realize, though, that the teacher was basing your grade on if you got a response. Oh well, still passed the class. Now I feel old. Perhaps it's time to attach an onion to my belt, piece my history together from the back of sugar packets, and read more things I pick up off the ground. "Latex Condoms. Boy, I'd like to live in one of those." |

I pretty much do the same. I do it within my own company though, to be honest, but none of it really has to do with our corporate office as much as it does with employees in other stores. My boss is like UBER strict on certain things, but it's clearly obvious why she's so strict. Well, for one, if you're caught not carding people for M rated games (Grant it, this is realistic carding) you will be fired on the spot, no matter who you are what position you have, etc...and it's happened. So for one, she's protecting our jobs. Another, she's protecting us personally.
So, when several people come in, literally getting in my face and hollering at me about their kids being sold M rated games, I look into the issue. For a little while, it was someone from another store. Different angry parents, but the same name on the receipt. So, naturally I called their store manager and ratted them out. **shrugs** I'm not ashamed of it. I was sick of being embarassed and treated like shit in my own store when it wasn't even my, or anyone in my staff's, fault. Honestly, I'm too busy to be a "real" letter-writer. I do enough "trying to save the world" as it is, so unless it's a REALLY big deal to me, I really don't go into that stuff. Not saying I wouldn't. I just...don't. **shrugs** (Last edited by Katana on 06-25-08 12:53 PM) |

Originally posted by NUCKLEARKNIGHT You'd be surprised. I mean, yeah, you often get the idea that as the little guy, people at the top won't get your message, but amazingly enough many of them take those letters seriously. Especially if they help the whole. If someone actually took the time to write a letter about an issue that affects the city, then it's probably something that's bothering many people out there. In the end, at least a politician somewhere gets to say that they improved conditions for people in their district or something. I also notice that letters are more carefully read if you indicate that you frequent the establishment of those you are writing to, and that they may lose your business or approval if there isn't any improvement. |

My roommate thrives on writing angry letters to businesses, which usually involves him getting some sort of freebie in exchange for the ill-services rendered.
When his foldable bike came packaged incorrectly and with minor cosmetic dents, they sent him a free bag and a free replacement tire for his angry efforts. I haven't done any sort of angry letter writing in years, but I have been known to get free M&Ms in previous years. |

I was just recently fired from my job from this:
Dear McDonald oil Company. I have been working at Moneyback #53 for about a month now, learned all there is to know about the job, and I strive to make my job experience as efficient as possible. Let me first start that I am 20 years old. Male, and I look very young for my age, my last job was being a Coordinator for the Fortune 400 Company; being a coordinator for Walt Disney World: The Magic Kingdom. I have learned to handle upset guests (Or in this case, your customers) and treat them the best I could with the right information. In this case, I have carried my skills to your store, and yet I get angry customers for one simple reason. Your policy states that I must ID everybody buying Tobacco and / or Alcohol products. I get harassed, I get things thrown at me, people get upset at me saying "It is my fault", "You are so full of Shit Young Man", everyday. Every day that I have worked there. The reason why I ID people regardless of age is because I do not want Handcuffs on me. This is the only chance I have at a job, and I want to keep this job before going to College. I feel that you should change your policy to Anyone who looks under 40. Trust me, 80% of the time, people with Gray hairs often get mad and very upset with me over your policy, and your Customers agree. I would like to hear from you as soon as possible. Like I said, I work at Moneyback #53. My name is Dale Hall. Please contact me ASAP on what I should do, and how I can better handle a situation of angry customers. It stresses me out every day that I have to WALK to work. |

You got fired from your job for writing something like that? What gives?
"This is the only chance I have at a job, and I want to keep this job before going to College." Kind of ironic, eh? I don't find your situation humorous, but you did get owned with that one. |
