Alright, the last two weeks or so I've been going to bed on average around 3:00AM or so and it's been getting worse lately, it's 4:20AM right now. I always have this idea to stay up all night and try to make it through the entire day - then go to sleep earlier and get back on track, but that doesn't work when I've been consistently going to bed so late. I'm certain I've got a good case of insomnia as well.
Last few days I've been sleeping in until like 1:00-2:00PM and I absolutely hate that, sleeping past noon. I know this is silly to ask for any tips or anything but whatever, it can't hurt. Again, right now it's 4:20AM and I'm seriously not that tired at all. (Last edited by XeoLVII on 01-05-08 08:24 AM) |

Normally I try and stay up for the whole day, here lately I have a sleeping schedule that counters my working schedule. So today im staying up all night till 7 AM (And guess what? Its 7:33 AM right now, and I just got out of the shower...fun stuff).
I used to have your problem Xeo, so I know how it feels. Best thing I can tell you is if you want to get tierd, and its late, be sure you have been up for 10 hours, then start practicing breathing exercises. 1- Breathe in through your nose slowly 2- Hold in the air for a minimum of 30 seconds or more 3- SLOWLY breathe out through your mouth. 4- Repeat My old Psychology teacher tought MRE and myself that, and it really does work. What exactly will that do?
And yeah ... today I woke up at 9, had some breakfast but then went back to bed because I was too tired and I woke up at 3PM. 3PM!! (Last edited by XeoLVII on 01-05-08 07:15 PM) |

My mother kind of does the same thing, but that's because she comes home from work at about 12:30 AM and plays the Wii until about 3 or 4 AM. Sometimes I don't call her until after 12:30 PM because I know that she's still sleeping, lol. (Last edited by VGFreak877 on 01-05-08 07:19 PM) |

I have been having the same problem. Except I go to bed around 3 and get up around 10. This is going to turn into a nightmare when school starts. And I know for a fact that I'm going to be up late tomorrow night because I have an essay due Monday.
Why am I not working on that right now??? |

Just stay up till like 6 o'clock and then get like 12 hours of sleep. Don't really know if that would work though.

Dude, I just spent the last two weeks sleeping on air mattresses and in combination, going to sleep really late and waking up really early. If I, a walking zombie, can somehow make it up before 7 in the morning, I know you can find it in you to get back on track.
Sleep cycles are a strange beast. When you don't have work or school or some sort of obligation that would keep you on a schedule it gets really easy to slip into the habit of being a nightowl. While there are probably all-natural methods like squirting shark piss up your nose or what have you, you might need to either sedate yourself or give yourself a kidney stone drinking caffeine all day. Take your pick. Otherwise, plan out a day where you're going to spend most of it on your feet and stay awake through it. Then fall asleep at 8 or whatever you might consider a reasonable hour. |

Go to bed one hour later/earlier each night until you're at a time you like.

I find that reading in bed makes my eyes tired and makes me sleepy. Although when I'm on my laptop in bed I don't get sleepy...

I've been doing the same thing, though I can switch easier usually. Reading works, or meditating. I'm sure you will figure out what works for you.

I had problems sleeping while I was in high school. BIG problems. But it was weird. I wasn't like the "average" teenager. You know, how they supposedly sleep a lot? I got up 5:30am for school EVERYDAY, didn't get to bed until maybe 1:00am...Only got sleepy enough to take a nap during the day if I was getting sick or something. **shrugs** But 1-5:30 was plenty for me then. It was like my biological clock didn't let me sleep any longer than that. And it if was a good sleep, straight through, just that amount had me bright-eyed, bushy-tailed in the morning.
Now, I'm having "issues" with sleeping...I sleep too much. It doesn't matter what time I go to bed...as long as I'm left alone, I can sleep 12 hours...or take several naps throughout the day (when I can), and even if I am bothered...any less than 10, and I'm a miserable sonuvabitch. But for some reason...my mom went through the same thing. Didn't sleep like the average teenager, but slept her 20's away. Dunno if that's "normal" or if there's something hereditary or not... If sleep is THAT much of an issue...investigate your family history. Hopefully they can give you better advice than my mother did..."Have a baby at 18...THEY'LL keep you awake..." Teehee. As far as sleep methods...**shrugs** Nyquill might do the trick. I've actually taken it once, just to go to sleep. Nagis' trick actually works...Or...**shrugs** I listen to anime music. Yes. Anime music. It's usually soooo pretty and soothing! The Final Fantasy VIII Soundtrack has some pretty music...lately, and it's odd that I've stumbled upon it, but I'm thrilled I did...the soundtracks to all three "Tenchi Muyo!" movies, (The soundtrack to the third movie being my favorite) has REALLY helped calm my nerves. So who knows...even if you don't think something is bothering you...maybe there is, your body is upset with something going on, and you weren't aware. I'm probably not making any sense here, since, ironically, I'm pretty damned tired at the moment, but...**shrugs** Hopefully SOMETHING works for you. |

My sleeping schedule has been heading in that direction to because I work at night. But now that I have school I gotta get out of that habit. -___-

Heh, I don't know if music would work for me ... even if it's soft and soothing I'd probably get too into it or something.
I'm the kind of the person that just can't "rest the mind". Once I lay down in that bed, it's like I have to review every single thing I did in that day, that I didn't do, that I will do years later, what I had to eat, why I didn't go somewhere, etc etc etc ... I just can't stop thinking sporadically and it keeps me up. For as long as I've known, even since Jr. High and probably before that it usually takes me an hour or two at least to fall asleep every night. I tried one trick which was counting to 200 (or any number really) in your head very slowly and supposedly before you hit that target number, you'd hopefully be asleep. That definitely didn't work for me. I guess I could try reading books. That does tire me at night (while just like NucklearKnight I can stare at my laptop without getting sleepy too). Bah. Since I didn't go to sleep last night, I took a 4 hour nap yesterday and went to bed around 10-ish. I woke up a few times during the night, but decided to get up when I woke up at 9. Hopefully I get tired again earlier tonight and can maybe start getting back on track here. |

What I almost always do is sudden get up really early in the morning(around seven) and try to stay awake until at least 10PM. It'll make you tired for that whole day, but at least you'll be back into your ideal sleeping schedual.

if I want to fix my sleep schedule and make i for a quick fix. I stay up all day two days before and then go to sleep ontime the night before. It works for me, but that's cuz I'm strange.

You could try doing random workouts during the day. Like if you're in a building with stairs suddenly start going up and down them till you're tired.
If that doesn't work then try to get plenty of fresh air if you don't already I heard that helps the body become relaxed during the evenings. |

Trust me, man, I've had the same problem for a long time. I just go out and do something until I want to go to bed if I want to fix my schedule, but often, even that doesn't work. |
