A pentagram is both depending on how it's used.

For many people they don't know that the pentagram is used for good things. They only have it associated with evil or at least anti-christian uses eventhough for some time Christians actually used the symbol themselves.

okay, so answer my question.

I think that if you associate a pentagram with satanism and witchcraft or "white" or "dark" magic than it will be see as a bad symbol. A symbol only represents something.

Associating it with Satanism does not make it bad if you know what Satanism really is. Now if it's one of those little idiots that claims to be a Satanist and just goes around killing cats and making pentacles with their blood because that is what he thinks Satanists do, THEN it is bad.

Yeah, but they don't perform sacrifices of living creatures... they find it wrong. There is a lot more to Satanism than "they worship Satan", as the thread in Debate explains.

really. they are all SYMBOLS. they only have meaning if you give it meaning. if you choose to give a symbol meaning, fine, but don't think that a symbol specifically belongs to a certain religion. many christians i know dislike the symbol of a cross and specifically only want a symbol of a CRUCIFIX for representation, because that actually shows jesus and yadda yadda. many witches use pentagrams or inverted pentagrams, and many of these witches are not wiccans, although many are.

some satanists use an inverted pentagram when practicing witchcraft or to display their beliefs, but god please don't go calling it a "bad symbol". all it is is a little design someone created to represent something. don't get your panties in a bunch. the only reason anyone would label anything associated with satanism as "bad" is because they are ignorant.

What the fuck is your point?
Why did you bother quoting me? When I say it's used as a bad symbol I'm referring to
within
the religeon i mentioned, wiccanism, NOT satanism.
Let me clarify:

the inverted pentagram=bad in wiccanism. I don't know the meaning in satanism, I don't know it's meaning in xtianity,
I don't know if it even exists in buddhism,
but I don't care and I can't be assed to look it up because I'm not talking about any of those.

Anybody with the mental capacity to read this far into the post
A L R E A D Y K N O W S
that a symbol is only a symbol when it's assigned meaning and that meaning is relative to the religeon in which it is used.

we've already established that:

a) many symbols re used in many different religeons to represent different things
b) just because a certain symbol such as the pentagram is associated with a religeon such as some form of satanism does not mean that it represents this religeon 100% of the time
c) Generally speaking, You'd do better to try patronising someone dumber than yourself, next time you want to make a point by trying to make other people look stupid make sure you understand the post.

I don't claim to know much about other forms of satanism but I am a proud and very much practising LaVeyan satanist.
ohyes, if you're going to get nitpicky get REALLY nitpicky!
and if you're going to try and correct me again read the WHOLE wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaVeyan_Satanism

relax, i am a levayen satanist as well. i wasn't personally attacking you or anything, RELAX RELAX RELAX. i didn't realize you were speaking from the standpoint of wiccans, it appeared to me as if you were stating that an inverted pentagram is ~*evil*~.

and god, i'm not dumber than you. maybe next time spell "religion" correctly and i'll take you more seriously. i would assume you're a 12 year old goth obsessed bloodmonger, but according to your profile you're older than me, either born in may or september (the variation of months is slightly confusing, might want to change that). you also don't seem to know the correct usage of "to" or "too". yeah, i'm being a pretentious, know-it-all asshole by poking holes in your grammar and spelling, but it's one of my strong points, and i don't take well to someone inferring that i'm an imbecile especially when they have the english grammar skills of someone still in gradeschool, thanks.

have a sense of humor, hun, and relax.

oh, and i hope you've not ONLY read that wikipedia article and are claiming to be a practicing satanist....lolololololololololol

Aiya, cool it gang.

By the way cawn, isn't it a little contradicting to talk about proper grammar without capitalizing after periods, as well as beginning a sentence with "and"?

Anyway, time kiss and make up.

yeah, thanks a lot, jerk.

"and god, i'm not dumber than you." is a valid sentence considering it's a FULL sentence. it would be incorrect if i said "i hate you. and your opinion." because the sentence that begins with the conjuction is not a full sentence.

i think it's a tad contradicting for you to criticize me and then tell me to cool it.

TP was nice about it. You argued with him;nNot a great idea. Knock it off now.

I don't give a fuck about the grammar, but this thread's pissing me off just reading the bickering. It's unneeded and it's unwanted.

I find it interesting I'm expected to sit back and take ridicule from someone who is clearly inferior :/

As for The Politician, no, s/he was not nice about it. Exclusively criticizing my reply when I was defending myself against a jackass isn't very nice.

Take this to debate, or the specific problems in which it is related to, leave this thread untainted by arguments. And your reaction, Vidar, is rash, counterproductive, and asinine.

I'm just going to add my two cents in here, but I'm going to point out that I didn't read the much of the first page of this thread...

I am glad to see something like this...Not only for religious freedom and things like that, but I think that with pentacles being allowed on graves, it slowly, but surely will bring more awareness toward a specific religion. Personally, I don't think one can truly respect their own religions without respecting the views of other religions (respecting something and converting are two different things. Keep that in mind). It just...I can't explain it, but I feel that respect is key, and in order to truly respect something, one should attempt to learn as much as they can about it. With the pentacles being there for people to see, then questions will be asked and then they will seek answers.

Again, this is something that's been on my mind since I've seen the title of the thread, and I didn't read much after the first post of the first page.

Also, as one of the moderators of this forum, I am going to have the last word in as far as the little argument goes. Both parties were wrong with the way they handled the situation, and TP did not do anything wrong. Vidar, your point is clearly seen and I respect that. So please, everyone here respect me by taking any comments about this argument to me in PMs.

Thank you!

As the actual Wiccan on the board, I would just like to comment... as I did in one of my earlier posts, that Wiccans DO NOT view the inverted pentagram as an evil symbol. As for the rest of that horrid argument, I would just like to say that I am deeply disappointed in both of you.
