Is it just me or does it seem kind of obvious how Kyle already got an F at English?
Rules #1: Tough shit, it called responsibility and it is time for YOU to take it up a notch. That does mean no playing around and video game! Usually, it would be wise to seek help or maintain your hourly schedule so you can get your homeworks done... Or rather, IMMEDIATELY get your homeworks DONE IN TIME. Rules #2: When you're in college, they are not going to bend these rules around for you. In fact, most of your grade may ended up getting F in every subjects. And you would be wasting money as well. Not to mention that they aren't likely going to help you that easy anyway. Rules #3: Homeworks grade are more then just test... Well... Slightly more then tests. But still, you must treat homeworks as they are tests/quizzes and so on. Rules #4: Tear some ass over the homework. By that, I mean just get every homework done in time and ready to be handed in. Simple as that. |

Ok, I agree mostly with what Seti says.
I personally hate homework, but it's gotta be done, especially if you aren't sly enough to trick your teachers into letting you pass without doing homework. (I am) But either way, some teachers are unable to be swayed from their belief that homework is best. Those classes you just have to buckle down and do half of the homework. |

Your problems are just fine, in fact they are rather common for many people your age. Don't feel like you shouldn't post here.
But yes, you did screw up somewhat majorly by not doing your homework, but you are working to fix that and that is good. Summer school isn't that bad, I took classes in the summer voluntarily when I was in high school just to get stuff done (mostly they were classes that normally last only a semester, which is why I did it). Normally it's block scheduling like in college, you're there for two or three hours per class and then your done. If you work hard and don't slack off on the homework I am sure that you will manage to get everything done in time. Also, to give your current grades an extra boost, see if there is any extra credit projects that you can do. It couldn't hurt. |

First of all: Fuck history.
That was by far my worst subject of all time. Second: Like Seti said, its time you step it up a notch. If you would like some good studying skills, here is what I did to pretty much ace any course thrown at me. Say like you are studying, non-stop for one whole hour. In that time, you loose interest at the middle of your studies. SO instead of studying in one bulk, take 15 minute study blocks, and take a small break in between, like drink something healthy like Apple Juice or something, and eating fruits greatly stimulates your brain. If that seemed hard for you, I can draw you a graph if you like. It totally worked for me. |

Not at all Nagis. I understand that a lot of people don't like history. And you're right, people do learn differently. The important thing is to figure out what works best for you in each subject and go with it, though generally it boils down to sound or sight (lectures or textbooks)

It really sucks though, I am homeschooled and my mother for some reason makes me do homework my 18 year old cousin didn't even do. I have to write a two page paper (Single spaced, 10-11 font) two times a week for every subject. And two math classes and that homework. Grr! |

Essays are a BIG part of the history major, so you are going to have to work on that. However, argumentative essays (where you prove your thesis through evidence, yes?) are the bulk of it. You will need to work on your punctuation and grammar though. Do whatever it takes, tutoring, Sylvan learning center, whatever, just work on it.

I still don't understand why homework is graded. Or why there aren't rankings.
Credit-wise, I've already graduated, except I have to take four years of English, which cannot be taken except at school. Argumentative essays aren't useful. Persuasive essays are. Also, college is messed. Listen to this. A transfer student who gets a 5 (max grade) on an Advanced Placement examination only receives half of the credit as a freshman who gets a 3 on the same exam. Awesome, huh? Can you say 40 units > 20 units? =( So best case scenario, I'll need 3 years to finish undergraduate, and I'm losing a year because of credit overlap. And that's best case scenario. Worst case is that there's a credit overflow and I'm not allowed to transfer. How messed up is that? And you thought you had it bad. (Last edited by Logos on 04-29-07 03:06 AM) |
