Full Article.

In short Bush is quite possibly the worst President we've ever had and now the American ideal has been completely betrayed here.

This really doesn't affect his life in anyway, so why do people care?

That's not really the point though or about him as a person, its the atrocious fact that Freedom of Speech was completely thrown out the window here.

Actually that does affect his life. He's a university professor, he gives lectures and speaches that would require him to travel, and if he cannot fly that affects him greatly.

But yes, the main issue is that this could happen at all. Added to the Terrorist list because you participated in a peace march? What the fuck is wrong with this country? WHY did Congress let that bill pass? Or did Bush just bipass them?

I'm going to pull the skeptic card and say I don't think we hve the full story. Even the article said that there were more reasons than his blog post for being added to the terrorist watch list.

Also, we don't even know that president Bush was involved in this. He isn't involved in small matters like this, security is. He's completely unrelated to this, in every way possible.

Seriously, I've looked through that website, and it is undoubtedly one of the most biased ones I've ever seen. It didn't give us all of the information, it gave us what made George Bush look bad. Huge suprise, right?

I think that I'd like to see more of the story before I start bashing Bush.

I'm going to pull the 'you didn't actually read the article' card. First he posted the blog
AFTER finding out he was on the no-fly list. Secondly the person mentioning the blog was
a friend that said there are other reasons why he was unlikely to be considered a terror
threat, not other reasons why he was added to the list.

The only reason is because of a lecture he gave at a school.

See, while I feel bad for the professor, frankly, I think he made himself out to be a martyr a little too much. I get the feeling as well that we don't have the full story, seeing as how the article is written based off of a first person account and not an actual letter.

I dunno, but to me it feels like both sides of the political spectrum are completely immature at times.

I think this is a case of people acting on their subjective and often fallible thoughts. Seriously, airline employees should smile and take my ticket.

Perhaps people haven't realized this but it's not scholars who blow up buildings.

Exactly, I mean, why would we? And a first-hand account is a credible source, fact checking is good, but it is a good source. Of course, all sources have bias, you just need to look past that. The guy got put on the list for giving a speech, that is what happened. It does not matter who you blame for it, the issue is that the First Amendment right to free speech has been violated.

Actually, Elara, that's the thing that Cairoi and I are saying. Even the article mentions there were more reasons than simply some speech he gave. They just mentioned that in passing, and tried to make it seem like we had all of the information.

In other words, I think that he's done more than just give his speech, and that the speech isn't the reason he's put onto the terrorist watch list.

As for whether or not he's a good source, I find that the person found guilty is the least credible source on the story we could possibly find. If a child steals cookies from a jar while he's a child, he's going to deny it so that his mother doesn't get mad at him.

If this guy is put onto the terrorist watch list, he's going to say that it is unjust and immoral, while not mentioning what he really did. Rather, he's going to point to one small factor, and say that that is the unjust reason.

Just to be clear, if that speech was the only reason, then yeah, I'd think it was wrong. But I have a really hard time believing that he hasn't done anything else to make him guilty.

Once again I am stifled by your arguement. The employees have to be suspicious, it's their job. Them being suspicious has stopped numerous other attacks on our country, which I'll note all of your biased news sources decide aren't worth reporting. If they just smile and take the ticket, we'd have several thousand less people in this country.

Now, not scholars who blow up buildings? We can't afford to make a complete exception because the guy is a scholar, that's just asking for us to kill ourselves. I fail to see any reason that a scholar would want to crash a plane into a building any less than an ordinary person. We can't make exceptions like this, because we want to survive.

Actually, I'd like to note that The Economist, NPR, BBC, and C-SPAN are very accurate news sources, for the record--sorry, I don't watch CNN or any of that nonsense.

I'd like to point out to Vulkar that there is no universal equality. Most pacifists don't intend to explode buildings.

Um, Vulkar... I see that not only did you not read the article, you didn't bother to read Pockets' post either, so here is the direct quote of the article that you keep misreading, compleate with additional emphasis:

Murphy is a decorated Marine who served in the Korean War and was a reservist for 19 years. Mark Graber, who presented the blog post, adds that there were other reasons that Murphy was an unlikely terror suspect.

Now, please reread the article carefully and present a more accurate argument. In addition also keep in mind that the airport personel actually stated that just participating in a peace march (protected under the First Amendment Right of Assembly) can land you on the list. That statement alone is cause for outrage. Our First Amendment rights our the most precious rights we have, they are the heart of what America stands for, what we fought for when we became independent from Britain. How you can just disregard that astounds and disgusts me.

Meh, that's what I get for posting while tired...like all of last week.

Anyway, I'm going to make a wild guess as to what those reasons are. I'm thinking that it could very well be that he fought in a war, or perhaps was mad at the terrorists when they attacked america.

You know who else fought in a war and hated the terrorists?

The sniper, several years back, who killed people randomly and then just ran off. Other than that, unless they actually say their reasons, I'm forced to say that they aren't really giving enough information. I still think that's a biased and empty source, which didn't get all of the information from authorities.

I would be on the terrorist watch list if I didn't randomly scream extremely patriotic things into my phone.

Thread Bumping possibly but I need to add two cents....

For one him going on the terrorist watch list is horrendous and violation of first amendment but congress did pass a law back in the day saying if you bash the president during war times they are able to arrest you and put you in jail...so he could be worse off
