Rodriguez and Tarantino managed to capture all the fun of drive in B-movies. Planet Terror and Death Proof are amazing!
Both are very good and very opposite. Planet Terror uses it's humorous bad dialogue, nonstop action, and over the top gore to entertain you. Death Proof uses witty dialogue and suspenseful car chases to capture your attention. Critics can't seem to pick one over the other. Many say Rodriguez outdid Tarantino, while many say the opposite. I think their both great in their own way. |

I saw it this weekend at a drive-in. That is absolutely the most hysterical movie(s) I've seen a long time.
Seriously. No words. There are none. It's just too funny. The "previews" had Zoso and me on the floor every time. I was REALLY pleased to see Zoe Bell in a leading role (as herself, even!). She's one of my heroes as she was the stunt double for both Xena and The Bride, and I even went to the premiere of the documentary about her and Jeanie Epper (the stunt double for Wonder Woman). Seeing it at a drive-in actually enhanced the experience, especially for the car chase bits in "Death Proof." I've always loved drive-ins and it's somewhat a shame that they've almost completely disappeared. |

I'm going to see it this afternoon with a few friends, and I have very high expectations. I won't be able to see it at a drive-in, but if I could, that would make it a much mroe authentic experience. But I have a question: Is there an intermission?

Originally posted by Yakitori Sort of. Between the two movies are three "previews" for coming attractions (about 10 minutes put together), pretty much mini movies directed by people like Rob Zombie and other cheesy horror film directors did to go along with the two big ones. |

Well, that was a great movie... er... movies. I'm going to say that I enjoyed Planet Terror more than Deathproof, but they were both great movies. And I totally want Werewolf Women of the S.S. to be made into a full movie.

Supposedly Robert Rodriguez is really making "Machete" into a feature length film. Seriously, that one made me hurt I was laughing so hard, but I don't know about actually making that, especially since Rodriguez churns out things like the Mariachi trilogy ("Once Upon a Time" I wasn't entirely fond of).
I hope he does it like another Planet Terror (cheesy as hell) and not go all serious, and for God's sake use Cheech Marin as a gun-toting priest. That'll make me watch anything. |
