Alarath listened to Ken describing the consequences for failure. Now that he thought about it, slavery for himself and all of the human race didn't sound nice at all. Maybe these people weren't so bad...
"Gadget?" he asked. "They have a person called Gadget?" he shook his head, who would call their poor son Gadget? "No wonder these people are so evil, with names like that, they must have been the butt of so many jokes as a child, that they decided to try and destroy everybody. And don't get me started on the name Gigante..." He didn't think he could get into Red Eye, it sounded like they required strange names. |

Ken chuckled, turning to Alarath. "Codenames, man. My codename was Zeus, Vincent's was Vaudevillian, Gigante's real name was Jabas, and I don't know Gadget's real name. Kyo is the only member of Red Eye without a codename. He doesn't let anyone know his full name, but I know it from before Red Eye.
Kyo Yagarochi is his name, and he hails from the native Terran lands. I knew him there before Red Eye was constructed." Ken looked serious, as his eyes seemed to recollect the past, something that was continually ever present within him. |

Vincent chuckled.
"Alarath isn't the most normal of names either. The system of Red-Eye works solely on the basis of secrecy between it's members. A question not asked of another, is a question not asked of yourself." Vincent remembered how things used to be run. How there were few questions asked, fewer questions answered. All of the information that was given to them was uploaded into secure terminals which required a large amount of security measures to bypass. Each mission was hand-picked for a person based on their specialty. Vincent went on basic missions, slaughters basically. Murdering workers and destroying anything that could be a threat. They began to see a demolitions expert in Vincent, but his overall attitude did not lend itself to be eligible for promotion as of yet. Then he rebelled along with Ken. The Lightning God and Jester, planning to overthrow the King. It was a humorous situation indeed. |

Alarath frowned. This Ken was a strange person. Vinvent on the other hand, he might be able to grow to like. He wasn't spacing out whenever he talked abou the past.
"Alarath is unusual, but it isn't as bad as Gadget." He paused for a moment, "anyway, you all mentioned training us. Since we're just sitting here, perhaps we should begin, so that I don't have to stand back until the final strike, like with Gigante?" Now tha he knew Gigante was a codename, he just couldn't chuckle at it...pity, now the humor was lost. |

Alexis separated herself from the others in mind, if not body. She couldn't really care less about the happenings of Red Eye. With a yawn, she finally piped up.
"Look, I honestly don't care about all this Red Eye crap. I'm here to help with whatever you need, but honestly, I'm here because if I'm not running, I'm as good as dead." She closed her eyes thoughtfully as she lit up a cigarette. She then wondered how much longer she could put up her arrogant, tough girl charade. |

Vincent noted her sudden change in attitude. She was an act. Just as I am an act, he thought. He pointed once at Alexis' cigarette and it went poof. Vincent held it in his hand, he took a drag and flicked off the ash. He tossed the cigarette onto the ground and stomped on it. His face was cheery as th cigarette dangled from Alexis' lips once more. He shook his head and turned his attention towards Alarath.
"Training will come later. We should not be in combat with any Red-Eye elites out here. This is a place even they seldom go. Of course, the benefits have their downfalls as well. Many tribal and monstrous races live around here, barbaric, cannibalistic, and generally not nice. Mind you, there are those who are more friendly and peaceful, but they are much harder to come by." Vincent's eyes flicked to a particular spot on the horizon as he spoke. A desolate place, even by Deadlands standards, a place of despair and destruction. |

Bria had not said a word since their encounter with Gigante. When they all jumped into the water, she hesitated for a moment, the fall was awfully intimidating. However it didn't take long for Bria to convince herself that it would be alright. They were landing in water afterall.
And so, she closed her eyes and took the plunge, landing gracefully, but not as gracefully as Alexis, into the water. She swam with great speed and was able to stay underwater longer than most people, since she was a water totem. Once she got to the surface, she sat down and began wringing her long thick hair out. Once everyone else reached the surface, she left them be and kept to herself. She couldn't help but grin though, as she saw the rose magically appear in Ken's hand as Alexis kissed him. For the rest of the time, she sat back and took in what everyone was saying and doing. She paid particular attention to Alarath. While she figured she wasn't his favorite person, she knew she had more in common with him than he thought. He was just as unsure about things as she was, only he was much more vocal about it. Also, they were polar opposites in other ways too, it seemed, the most obvious being their totems. That intrigued Bria as well, though. Maybe it was just her, but she always felt that what those deemed as opposites could fit together better and in more interesting and unexpected ways. Neither she nor Alarath had much to them physically, so perhaps she could get him to work with her in other ways. Avendia was another she'd like to keep in her sights. She was patient and wise and while she knew of her and Rei the least, she trusted her judgement the most. Rei, on the other hand, was close to her age and seemed impulsive, like most people her age should be. However, he did go after them because he thought she needed help. She owed him for that one and was at least already able to tell that he was a good person. While Ken was strange, he too was a good man and Vincent...well he was just Vincent. Now Alexis...Alexis seemed to be just plain fun. She was snapped out of her thoughts when Avendia spoke up. She shuddered at the thought of it getting cold, and glanced over to Ken and Vincent to see what they had to say. (Last edited by Katana on 03-19-07 04:13 PM) |

OOC: Okay, big post guys. I'm sorry if you feel rushed or anything, but it's time to move the story along. Please read the entire post before responding. BTW, two edits on the races: Terrans, a bit of history for those who hail from the native lands, if you live in a city it doesn't really affect you, Check the race thread. Also, Animus, I changed it to stress that heat awakens and strengthens you, while when it gets cold, you grow tired, and in your native lands you burrow underground.
BIC: Ken looked around, taking into account what everyone had said. He pointed at a dirt road, leading towards the Badlands. "Let's go find a more suitable shelter, as Avendia suggested." Ken lead the group, walking solemnly, his eyes closed. He knew he had been odd to the others, and he felt like they probably didn't trust him. He was secretive, he knew. But it's not like he wasn't aware of it. He felt forced to lie to himself sometimes. Since the day of his birth, he hadn't been what he had been cracked up to be, so he tried so hard to make himself larger than life, to fill the gap he always felt. He'd never be content with love or fame or money until he calmed the demons of his own soul. As the road winded around a plateau, a strange alcove lit by the presence of fire could be seen, and Ken motioned for everyone to follow him this way. He walked over and noted the campsite. A relatively large buggy, harnessed to a sleeping beast with large horns and a sturdy frame could be seen. Ken had never seen anything like it. Mystified by the beast, he was caught thoroughly off guard as a figure, robed and laughing. "Oh, don't mind Koko." A deep voice, laced with a deep and foreign accent proclaimed. "She hails from the same lands as I, and she is as gentle as the morning dew, unless you harm her." Ken focused intently on this figure, slowly lowering his raised fists. "You, you're an Animus, but not of the Sand People. Are you...?" The large man laughed heartily, stepping closer to Ken. He lowered his hood, revealing his dark and kind face, marked with scars. "Yes, my boy, I am of the Rainlands. My name is Bo'tk, and by the look in your eyes I believe I recognize you. You carry yourself as though you do not wish to reveal what your eyes speak, so I shall not do their task, but we may discuss this later." Bo'tk looked around, scanning the group. He saw two Animus, and this did his heart good. They seemed to mingle well with the Terrans and Oridians. He motioned to his camp, with a large grin appearing on his face. "Come, my new friends, make yourself at home. You will find water and food and warmth here with me." Several hours later, the group had made themselves comfortable. Some were sleeping, some were eating, some were busy staring at the stars. Bo'tk and Ken were off, talking together about many things. They sat on a log far from the group and Bo'tk seemed to be imparting wisdom to Ken, who was deep in thought. After their talk, Ken walked over to the group, looking around. Most had begun to settle down, and he began to feel his eyes close. He took off his shirt and rolled it up into a pillow, laying down. He wasn't cold, as a Fire Totem he never could be, but he liked to wear shirts for humility. For on his muscled torso there lied hundreds of varied scars, especially on his back. Too tired to care, he felt the softness of his shirt lull sweet lullabies into his ears, and he was soon asleep. The next morning at first went quickly. Everyone rose to the smell of Bo'tk cooking a feast of exotic foods, never before seen to almost all present. But the food was delicious and nutritious, and it was quickly gone. Stomachs full, the group felt content and awake. Bo'tk stood up and addressed the group. "I am pleased to know you all enjoy my cooking, but is time we plan our route. I cannot go with you to Ha Even, as Ken has informed me you are headed to, but I will take you to the mouth of the Badlands. I would ride you through, but I have a destination in the opposite direction, and it would be far too time-costly. From our departure you may continue, with my blessing." Bo'tk walked over and awoke his beast of burden, Koko. As the beast awoke, it hissed and grunted, steam raising from its nostrils. It trotted about in the alcove, waking up. During this time, Bo'tk cleaned up the cooking utensils, readied the buggy, and hooked Koko up to it. "Climb in, friends!" Everyone followed his order, crammed into a wagon full of assorted nick-nacks and strange furniture. Ken went and sat next to Bo'tk, feeling the cool wind on his face and looking out at their destination. He owed a lot to this man. |

Alexis, full and content with the delicious, foreign food that still lingered on her tastebuds, leaned forward between Bo'tk and Ken. Her mind was full as well.
"So; Bo'tk, if you're not coming with us, where are you going to go? Just gonna stay out here in the wild and live alone, or somethin'?" She blew cigarette smoke out as she talked, her Marlboro dancing in her lips as she talked. |

*Avendia glanced sideways at Alexis, but said nothing. The Rain Animus were a secretive bunch, even to their Sand-cousins; that one had even left the Rainlands amazed her. She could only wonder the thoughts that were going through Rei's mind... this might be a chance for her to learn more of her people's magic, but for him this might be a link to his father's people. Waiting silently for others to finish their talks with Bo'tk she examined the strange creature named Koko... it must be a fierce creature in battle. When her chance to talk came she seized it quickly*
"Many thanks for you hospitality, Rain-cousin; may the winds always be warm for you. I know not how long this journey shall take by buggy, however I was wondering that if there is time if you would mind teaching me a bit about Spirit Magic? I am very adept for one of the Sand People, but very few can teach me more than I have already learned." ((Doesn't have to be played out, just assumed... ya know?)) |

Vincent sat contently in the back of the buggy. Other people speaking and thinking. He had little to eat, but it was enough for him. Of course, inside his coat-pocket he held all the furnishings of the old apartment. Including a well-packed refrigerator. But that was an item for the more desperate times. His head turned sharply as he noticed a particular spot which held a bad memory for him. This memory was oriented around his initiation to Red-Eye. Something everyone had to go through to get in, and Vincent did not particularly fancy. As they drove quickly by, a small explosion was heard, and that spot and memory would be gone forever...
"Mister Bo'tk, I ask you kindly if you have any advise for us weary travelers setting forth into the most aptly named "Badlands." I've been here before, it's just that my last visit was long ago, I make it a point not to come here often you see. My last trip also ended rather...Fatally for a few of my companions..." Vincent thought of one of his first missions from Red-Eye, though not a good memory, this was not a bad one either, so he did not see it necessary to blow up the Badlands. Out of a squad of thirty Red-Eye initiates, only seven survived. The heat, creatures, and geography of this place were too dangerous for novices to hope to make it through alive. Vincent wanted to prevent any of the other's deaths... |

Bo'tk listened carefully as the passengers each spoke in turn, thinking carefully. At Avendia's comment he had looked back at Rei, who sat quietly pondering. They had discussed this earlier, as the others were soon to learn. After Vincent spoke his mind, Bo'tk laughed a moment and began to speak in his old, deep, wise voice that seemed to be truly from the heart. The sunlight showed Bo'tk for what he really was: A very large and strong man, humbled by age with memories and knowledge far spanning any pool of knowledge the people here held.
"Miss Alexis, I am a negotiator for the people of the Rainlands. Every so often, I leave the pleasures of home with my brethren and travel the world, keeping tabs on the leaders and keeping my people safe from intruders and safe from harm. My current duty is that of a visit to the capital of the Terran kingdom. It might seem hard to believe for most of you, but the Oridian Senate is not the only kingdom here on Terra. The Terran and Animus kingdoms each have seats in the Senate here on Terra, as well as representatives in the Oridian Senate. While this system is in place, everyone is equal. In my years, I am happy to say that for once, we of the Rain and Sand are on equal political grounds as the Comet Children and the Terrans." Bo'tk flashed his peaceful smile before moving on to the next subject. While Bo'tk had spoken of the kingdom of Terra, Ken had closed his eyes and his mind to everything but the cool breeze. He had thought too much of the past lately. "Miss Avendia, you ask for a small teaching in Rainland magick, hmm? Well, by traditional means it would take years to teach you how to use it at the level of a warrior, but with my age has come wisdom, and such a way to teach you the theory and vague method of practice of my people's magick." He reached into his bag with one hand while keeping a gentle hold on Koko's rein with the other. His hand dug fervently until he pulled out a medium length shaft of wood, with a single strange marking on it. He placed it in her hands and then turned back to the road. "Rainland magick starts from a belief that all things have souls. This piece of wood that I have handed you has a soul, and thus has power. Now, Sand-cousin, listen carefully. Your magic prays to the gods for power. As we are blood-cousins and we hail from an ancient, greater people, our magick is also kin. Pray to something that you would normally think lesser of you, and beseech assistance from all, and thus you will find strength. Ponder this, and soon enough you shall know our magick. Avendia, once this ordeal is over, come seek the Rain-people. I believe that with time, that passion I sense within you, and your openness to learn may reunite our people." Bo'tk took a swig from his gourd, drinking down the sparkling clear water of the Rainlands. He handed the bottle to Ken with a smile, and Ken took a swig as he addressed Vincent. "Ah, young brother Vincent, may I offer you this suggestion: Do not sleep. If it all possible, do not stop. The faster you leave the Badlands, the less risk you carry." |

Vincent smiled but couldn't help but be momentarily shocked. He did realize the longer the group of Red-Eye initiates stayed in the badlands, the more died. It could have just been the constant heat and constant cold, but there was something about this place. Vincent nodded in response.
"I don't need much sleep anyway. I'm what most would call an insomniac." Vincent smiled, he had spent most of the last night training himself and preparing his teleportation magic. |

Ken sat quietly in the front, summoning electricity in his hand. Bo'tk had a few electronic devices from Oridians he was able to drain, so he would now be able to fight again. He recalled the conversation from the previous evening. Bo'tk had spoken of a mystical fountain Ametsuchi himself had created. The waters there may give Ken the spark required to tap his dormant Fire Totem powers. He had seen doctors and shamans and no one could ever discover why he could not conjure flames. But maybe, this was it.
Bo'tk sat quietly, watching the road wind beneath them, but suddenly let out a loud order to his beast, and Koko swerved to the left and stopped her run. Bo'tk looked back at the others. "My friends, this is where I must drop you off. We are at the Axemouth, the winding and challenging opening into the Badlands. Heed my words, young ones. In time you will be tempted to stop, to sleep, or to turn around. Do not! These lands are harsher than any in the city. And the beasts inside are fiercer still." As everyone climbed out, Bo'tk stepped off the carriage and addressed them. "I suppose this is where our paths split. I hope that your winds carry you well and you find your way safely to Ha Even. But, before you make your way in, I believe your friend Rei has some words for you all." Rei, quiet all the time, finally spoke up, looking at the others. "Guys...I've decided to go with Bo'tk. He will teach me the ways of my people, and I believe my destiny is on his path." Ken looked at him sternly, eying up his resolve. "Alright then, friend. May you find what you search for. I'm sure Bo'tk will take good care of you." Ken then looked at Bo'tk. "Thank you very much for your wise words, and your shelter, old friend." Bo'tk looked at him and laughed. "Anything to help the little boy I once knew you to be." Ken stared at him with the look of good memories about his face. He had met this man many times throughout his life, and each time he had helped him overcome the doubts that plagued him. "So, everyone, once you've said your goodbyes, our best choice would be to move quickly through the badlands." Ken turned and looked at the path, covered by two cliffs, with nothing but rocks and dirt ahead of them. He sighed and prepared himself mentally for the trial ahead. |

*Avendia looked curiously at the stick. She had heard the tales of Rain People asking gifts of spirits in rocks, but she had thought it nonsense... it made sense now though. Perhaps that explained Rei's ability to encase himself in stone*
"I thank you for this gift, Rain-cousin. Once I am done aiding these people I shall seek the Rainlands as you say, for I also feel that it would be good for our people to be joined once again." *She walked over to Rei, looking at him with a thoughtfull gaze* "I feel you have made a wise choice, Rei. Hopefully we shall meet later and you can show me how you have grown. Until then, may a warm breeze always find you and the hunt be plentiful." |

OOC: Since FX is gone, I assume anyone can play as Rei...
Alexis smiled to herself as she saw Rei off with the rest of her teammates. Waving at him as he left wih Bo'tk, she called out to the duo as they took off. "Take care, you two! Good luck!" Rei turn back around and waved back. "Good luck to you all, as well. If a good wind blows, I'll see you all again!" Alexis was content, and smiled to everyone as she turned towards them "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's get going!" She seemed happy, for even though a comrade had left, he had left with them the spirit of courage and motivation to work together. Things would be alright. She knew they would be. |

Ken and Bo'tk shared on glance, before Ken turned and began walking up the small incline the mouth of the pass created. Bo'tk closed his eyes and called out to Ken.
"Remember to hold tight the Lotus, lad." Ken turned at this, and reached into his pocket, pulling out something connected to a chain, which dangled from his clenched fist. "I've guarded it safe for half my life, friend. It isn't going anywhere now." Bo'tk, taking this in, smiled and turned, walking back to the carriage. Rei followed after him, silent, but more enthusiastic then he had been. Bo'tk climbed onto the carriage and looked at them with promise. "Find the Azule Alliance, friends. They wait for you in Ha Even, and they will ensure you are all ready for the perils that most certainly face you. That is my final gift of advice I can offer you." And with that, they were off. Koko hissed awake and the carriage flew down the dirt road, leaving nothing but a trail of dust, and the memories of Rei and Bo'tk, and how they had impacted them. Ken faced the mouth of the passage once more, and, invigorated with a new purpose, spoke. "We face our next trial, here in the Wasteland of the Wailing Souls, the Badlands. Let us hope it takes kindly to us." |

"It could get a little crazy in there. We move as a unit, we will not stand for one of our own to stray away. We simply must take this as a challenge, and we must all stay together. There is too much danger down this path. I suggest we all leave our pride at the door."
A smile struck Vincent's face. "I know I will." He began to enter the passage. The feel of the place was the same. Well, almost. There was an air of death about the Badlands. As if some twenty feet held all the danger of the world. As if in those twenty feet, one had traveled to hell. "Even Hell fears this place." Vincent spoke aloud, closing his thought. Thinking of those they were to meet. Thinking of the challenges that await them. And the horrid creatures of this place. The Kamu tribe being the most popular. Cave-Dwellers, Cannibals, and Mutants. Vincent kept a sharp eye to the walls, and made certain to know what was at his back. So long as they stayed together they should have no problem staying safe. If they did sleep, there would be night-watch shifts, and they would have to find some other way of protecting themselves. "Let's move, out feet must move swiftly and silently, predators lurk about every corner." |

Ken motioned for the others to follow, and they moved up to where Vincent stood, and together the group made their way into the mouth of the passage. The shadowy passageway was only barely lit by the sun. The two cliffs were only 10ft apart, but the end of the passage could not be seen.
Ken raised his voice after they walked for a moment or two, addressing Vincent. "Ah, you recently did your initiation here, right? ...Must have been tough." |
