I'm a big fan of strategy games. Command and Conquer, Warcraft, Starcraft, Dawn of War, Company of Heroes... but not my current interest is a kickass game called Supreme Commander.
First off, this game is huge. Practically everything about it, the size of the map, the units, the amount of destruction, the amount of time necessary to build some of the units (the time needs range from 3 seconds to well over an hour and a half ), the system requirements... the works. Supposedly, it is the I beat the single player campaign a while ago. Pretty fun, but the missions are so huge it could take well over an hour to go through a sigle mission. And there's six missions for each faction (three factions, so that's eighteen missions total). So don't play it unless you got some free time to burn through. Anybody else play it yet? P.S: On a side note, what the heck is up with this? Whenever I use an apostrophe or quotation marks, I wind up with a stupid slash right next to it. " ' See? |

Side note: I'm not seeing the slashes, but maybe that was fixed already.
Anywho, I have this game. Got it before it came out and played the demo before that. I love it. I haven't played the campaigns yet, but I play skirmish. I just played one yesterday me versus 2 computers (normal AI) that took me about 57 minutes. I could have been done in about 45, but I had to make a nuke launcher to go with my heavy artillery cannon, 2 experimental mobile artillery cannons, and my 250+ units before decimating all the enemy units. I found it to be quite fun. Especially when I had +46k for my energy and +375 for my mass. I had a lot of mass extractors and mass generators with TONS of tech3 power generators. So yeah... I like the game. I really should buy it when I get the money.... (I just spent $70 on Naruto manga...) |

Side note: Really? Hm. Must be a browser issue. But it's not important.
Experamental mobile artillery? You mean the Scathis or the Mavor?(I've yet to actually build a Mavor, takes freaking forever, even by tech 4 standards, and even if you get your commander to build it, it takes, like, almost an hour. ) |

If this game is anything like Total Anhilation, then I am probably going to love it. I own the original game (TA) and I still pop it in and play it. Do the commander units have a one shot kill cannon on them like in TA? I use to love playing kill the commander matches with a quick rush at the start with a few small units, blasting his commander with the cannon (I dont think the cannon killed commanders in one hit) and mop up the last little bit of the enemy commanders health.
Quick win booya! But yeah, build times in both are a drag if you dont up the ammount of builders working on one project. I remeber in TA it took about 5 minutes to build medium level stuff and that was with 2 other builder units helping to build as well. I may not get this game right away, I am also looking forward to C&C 2 TW that hits shelves in the next few weeks, and currently I have Dawn of War and 2 expansions to play through! |

Originally posted by Jedi Master Desroth Hm. Depends. The commander units can have weapon upgrades, making them substantially better in combat (or otherwise), but for a one hit kill, not if you use the overcharge ability. You can also have secondary commanders, also with upgrades. I'm not sure if stuff like that was in TA. |

Originally posted by Max I built the scathis, I think. It was the Cybran one. I had 10 tech3 engineers, 1 tech1 engineer, and my ACU working on it. |

This game is amazing, but man does it get your anger boiling when playing with friends (for me at least)
I seem to prefer the Aeon. I was always a powerful force with the Krogoth's from TA, and well the Aeon's Galactic Collosus is almost that (alright, not nearly as awesome but still up there). TA had "decoy" commanders, but I really don't remember them being nearly as good as the Support Commanders in this. And you couldn't upgrade your commanders at all in TA. Technical difficulties, slow downs and whatnot aside, this is truly an incredible spiritual successor to TA if you ask me. |
