Rei had been quiet for quite some time now, deep in thought. At this point in his life, he had no direction, no goal. Two years ago had left his mother, and his home, for the first time in his life. He chose to abandon his safe, stable, secluded life to pursue his father. He set out to find a man who wouldn't even acknowledge his existence in the first place. A man who had left his mother to raise their child in exile.
She had told him not to go. Told him to stay with her, where it was safe. Told him there was no point risking his life to pursue a man such as his father. She was probably right, but he couldn't sit around without knowing. His mother had fallen in love with this man, so there must be some trait in him worth pursuing. "I-if I go with you, I want the chance to leave at any time for... personal reasons. And I would like, if at all possible, to be able to... steer us in certain directions. I have a... shall we say quest, that is extremely important to me." Maybe traveling with this man, he could break free from his stagnant drifting, and possibly make some progress. |

*Avendia watched Rei as he spoke. She had a feeling that he searched for something he could not find. He would need guidance, and though she did not know how good of a teacher she was, it was a duty she must take on. It did not do for a Animus, even a half-breed, to not know how to use the Spirit Magic. Besides, she had already grown tired of this city*
"While I think that you city-dwellers are strange, I feel that I must continue on with you. It was my choice to assist in your escape, and it would seem that we are tied together because of that action. Besides, if this one (nodding to Rei) is to join you it is my duty to accompany him and teach him the ways of our people, since it would seem he does not know them. I fear not for my family... even Red Eye does not bother the Sand Animus tribes unless they absolutely have to." *She smiled slyly, which made her look both pretty and unsettling* "I am Avendia Mal'Toren by the way." |

Rei was almost flattered by the offer from Avendia.
"No, I do not know the ways of the Animus. My mother was a Terran, and was thus lacking that knowledge. You would really teach me the way of our people?" Rei was excited about the opportunity to increase his capabilities. |

"Ah, that explains much. But yes, it is a duty for those that know how to work the magick to teach those who have not yet learned it. I cannot guarantee that I will be a good teacher, however I would bring dishonor to myself if I did not try." | |||

"Then it's settled. Henceforth we shall be a fellowship of fugitives. But at the same time, I believe that if we plan, we may be able to remove the bounty on our heads in the future. But that is not the burning thought on my mind at this moment. First, we will take our leave of the city and make way to my good friend the Jalap Marquis' residence, where we may rest. He is an influential political figure in the Senate, and govenor of the town he resides in. We will be safe there. During our stay there, I will train all of you so you have the ability and knowledge on how to battle Red Eye, as I know that you will all one day face them at one time. If I can prepare you for them for the times I will not be there, then it will be easy on my heart." Ken was glad at that moment, already attempting to plan a way out of the city. He knew that if they could get a hold of an airship, they would be ok, but he expected "Gadget" to have thought of that already. The only secret way he could think of was the waterways, and it seemed the safest course, but instinctively he had a bad feeling concerning that route.

Vincent silently watched to commotion. The doctor, a greed-driven man, was a fire totem. Bria, the lovely girl, a water totem. Odds would have it they'd be at each others necks over the course of their pending journey. The feisty Alexis, she was true to her self. That was important. She'd be the most likely to fight long after hope is lost, a powerful ally. The two Animus. Rei, a young one, versed in Terran culture, but mind barren of knowledge of his own. He would be influenced by the other Avendia, a wise choice by him. Avendia appears to be well-known in he own lands, a warrior of great honor. One could only hope she lives for that honor alone. Her loyalty will not falter until her dying breath, whenever that is to happen, hopefully years down the line and in the heat of battle, just like an Animus would prefer. Kenneth, a good leader, one to draw the masses and protect them. He never did like what Red-eye was doing, now he decided to speak up and act out against them. And me, the keen and potent magician. Mysterious, dashingly handsome, and unpredictable. A background shrouded in bloodshed, terrible, terrible deeds committed by these hands. Vincent gently shook himself out of such deep thought. Catching only the last things said.
"We should leave soon, I feel something is quite amiss. This rain will make for good cover, the safest way out would be through the waterways." He seemed rather troubled for a moment, his face holding no emotion. A cheerful smile broke the troubled look, his eyes still hiding terrible secrets and re-enacting battles long past. "Unless of course you find a problem with that, Ken." |

"Are you sure that your Red Eye has not already thought of us escaping by the waterways? What are we to do if they have?"
*Avendia voiced her questions in a tone of respect, yet also one of practibility. It was something all Animus learned early on: always have more than one plan.* |

"The reason why he suggests it, ma'am, is that is more than likely the route that they have thought least of. In my mind, there are two possible routes of escape now while the enemy is not fully in control: An airship, or the waterways. If we sneak onto an industrial airship, there is a possibility of escaping, but we'd have no control over what part of the world we'd end up on, let alone the possibility of them guarding Cargo City." (OOC: Cargo City is the large airport fields of this city. It's as big as a normal city.) The waterways will take us right out of the city, and they'd be the hardest for Red Eye to reach. I'm torn between them." Ken looked at everyone with a look that implied he needed assistance. He had an ill omen about both routes, but they were their only choices.
At that moment, high in the sky, Locke of Red Eye cursed his luck. That damn Zeus had gotten a lucky "chaos incident" (an incident where the Instinct Drive cannot avoid damage) and evaded him. Now, he couldn't trace him. The Leader was going to be furious at him, he knew it. He frantically looked out the side door of the helicopter, reading signals with his suspicious eyes. In the midst of frustration, he heard his com link turn on, and he stepped back into the helicopter to hear more clearly. A mousy, hushed, yet frantic voice came on. "Locke, have you found them?!" Locke breathed a sigh of relief. It was just Gadget, the tech-head of Red Eye. Locke responded with "No, it's difficult. I haven't seen a physical trace of them, they've fried out their Life Co. ID cards, and worse yet, neither are wearing their Pupi Scanners. Vaudevillian always refused them, and Zeus naturally has red eyes, so unless we needed to locate him, its difficult to tell if he was actually wearing them." A moment of silence ensued, and then Gadget came back on. "Ok, well, this can still be saved. I will position cyborg battallions at all the main exits to the city, but I don't have enough activated to cover every exit. So, wait for the Leader's orders." Locke gulped, fear taking him. "No, you bastard! Give me something to do! I can't face him yet!" But, the signal had been cut. Locke panicked, knowing that he would be on the link soon. In a moment of extreme panic, Locke considered trying to shoot himself, but he was far too afraid to do anything. He shook himself out of it just as the comlink turned on once more, but this time a dark, stern voice came on, turning Locke's skin white. "Locke, you have allowed them to escape," The Leader said cooly, despite the anger hidden beneath the surface. "I understand my failure, sir, but I'm scanning every inch of the city, searching for them! We'll find them and bring them to justice!" Locke retorted, mustering up every inch of passion in him. He knew his fate could depend on it. After a moment of silence, the voice of the Leader spoke. "To search the city is a waste of time if we have no tracking device to find them. We must predict their movements if we are to stop them. I believe that they will try to take leave of the city before we have fully prepared ourselves, as would any intelligent enemy do. My theory is that they will try to leave the ways they think will cause the least commotion and have the least defense. You are going to guard the airport, and you may have a battalion to support you. However, if I hear any report of them sneaking by you in Cargo City, you will have to pay for your repeated failures. That is all." Locke sighed once more, knowing his hide was saved. He'd still be in the dog house, but he could still survive. He knew everything could be ok. And with that, he walked up to the pilot and told him what to do. He was off to Cargo City. |

Alarath thought for a moment. He hated water, it was the opposite of his element, and he hated it in large quantities. But at the same time, air was unsafe, and they could end up and an irritating place. He came to his conclusion.
"We need to go through the water," he said. "If it's guarded, we run and try to go through the air. The way I see it is that the airship will definitely be guarded, and the waterways are only probably guarded. I like probably better than definitely. "Out of curiosity, how did you get in?" |

There were still some beads of water along the windowsill from when Bria had been playing with it moments ago. She mover her finger to lift one of the beads and flicked it at Ken.
I'm thinking waterways will be the best option. I can't do much if I'm not near water, but when I am..." Her voice trailed off for a moment and she tilted her head in Alarath's direction. "It's obvious that that one can control fire...and if the good doctor wouldn't mind, he and I would make a pretty good team. Oil floats on top of water and if I am correct, it is pretty difficult to put out a fire over water..." She paused, unsure of herself and whether or not she was proposing an intelligent idea. A slender finger went to her lips and her brow furrowed as she thought for a moment. "Yes." She says, nodding. "I think taking the waterways will be much smarter than an airship." Bria shrugged. "I also suggest getting to know one another as much as we can and as quickly as we can. We've got talents and if we don't mesh them together somehow and think things through, we won't make it." When she finished, she glanced around at everyone in the room, trying to gauge their reactions. Her eyes fell on Avendia last and she lingered there for a moment. If anyone would be able to correct her, she was sure it would be Avendia. |

Vincent turned towards the Doctor, then Bria. He pulled his cane off the top of his bureau. A very special cane. He tapped it gently on the ground and deposited it somewhere in his coat, it seemingly folding up and fitting snugly in his jacket. From another pocket, he drew a black wand with a white band around the tip. He stuck it abruptly on the bureau and it transformed into an umbrella. He tipped his hat lightly.
"They will have the waterways guarded too, but probably not as strictly as other paths. And we get in through the manhole in the alley across the street from the bar. There's no reason other than escape routes to make us choose such a drab environment. Come now, a brisk walk across the street shall do us nothing but good." Vincent shook his head at his forgetfulness. He pulled an average sized briefcase from below a desk and opened it, revealing a bare leather interior. He whistled sharply and the furniture in the room seemed to spring to life, shrinking and flying into the briefcase. But not just the furniture, the lights in the room, as well as the rugs and curtains all drew into the case as well. With another whistle the old dirty furniture returned to the room and Vincent frowned for but a moment. He taped the top of the briefcase and it too shrunk to the size of a wallet, and after placing it in his coat pocket, he gently opened the door and motioned for the others to exit. "Come now, no need to look at this lowly room with all my grandeur removed." Vincent said with a sly smile. |

Kenneth Ride was looking out the window, thinking about the path of life he was about to take. He was about to go through a waterway out of the capital of Terra, leaving behind the life he had spent years to build and becoming a fugitive. All for morals. But he felt no regret leaving that life behind. He only felt regret for the fact he had lived it. He hoped his actions would one day make up for the sins he committed. He walked over to the door, turning quickly to the others.
"We make our way now. Don't worry about getting wet, friends, there's a walkway. Now, let us make haste." He did not like getting wet unless he was swimming, but he already was wet, and it was not much of a concern right this moment. |

Rei jumped slightly as the furniture whizzed past him. In the short time he had been gone, he had experienced things that he once would have dismissed as impossible.
"I want to stay at the front of the group. I've got plenty of skills for protection. And if we get caught, I can always cause a cave-in, with the help from the other Terrans?" |

Alexis looked at the impetuous young man.
"Cause a cave in? And potentially cut off any escape route, just in case we're caught on the other side? Also, those people will live to tell their superiors our whereabouts, and the damage to the city's water system will definitely let them know where we were. No; the best option is to kill them all. By the time their officers could find out what happened, we'd be long gone." Alexis was a natural at escape tactics and planning ahead. She was a natural. She only hoped that Vincent and Ken would agree to this plan. She never knew if those two had something more elaborate and unnecessary devised. |

Vincent cheerfully smiled.
"Yes, killing them all would be the ideal plan of action. Almost as Ideal as not killing any. We either escape unnoticed or we escape very well noticed." This girl had the right idea. It's a wonder she was not recruited by Red-Eye long ago. |

(OOC: Sorry for not noticing your ninja post, Vulkar, you must have posted just before I did, and I had to rush out the door earlier, so I didn't have time to notice, once I hit the reply button. And no more little attempts at interacting with Ken I suppose...)
As the furniture slid past them, she blinked, but did not show any more suprise than that. She was getting used to the "unexpected" that it she actually expected Vincent to do the things that he did. However, just because the suprise was gone, doesn't mean the interest wasn't. She was going to ask him later how he did all of his tricks, she decided. With that Bria made her way toward the exit, giving Vincent a nod as she passed him. Once in the hall, she turned. She didn't say a word, just shruged and made her way to the stairs and began to descend them. |

"Your logic works well enough for me, besides it is easier to sneak in tunnels out of the city than onto an airship."
*She glanced at Rei* "And it seems that your lessons may well have to begin should we hit trouble along the way. The Spirits grant us many gifts: strength in battle, or stealth for hunting. In this case, the stealth would be best, since the harder the prey is to see, the harder it is to catch. Best to avoid a battle if we can... they outnumber us and most of us are not truly prepared for such a fight." *Avendia began walking towards the door* "When we reach the waterways, I will teach you the gift of stealth, Rain-cousin." |

Time skip time!
The party quickly made their way down to the first floor, where they paid respects to the bartender, who had minded them well. They casually crossed the street, two at a time to avoid detection. The first two to cross, Ken and Vincent, then opened the sewer gate. Vincent directed the others acrossed the street as Ken slipped down to take a look. Suprisingly, the waterways were in great condition, being both clean and beautiful, with more cobblestone and natural torches than the actual city itself. It was well-lit, and not intimidating to the eye. There were about five foot stonepathways rising above the water to make travel easy, but it appeared they ended and started up again almost haphazardly. As everyone descended into the waterway, Ken made sure their landing was soft. He then organized everyone into a marching order: Ken, then Alexis, then Rei, then Avendia, then Alarath, then Bria, then Vincent. He then began to lead the group through the vast labarynth of aquaducts. "Alright, if I remember correctly, we'll be ok if we can find the Pentagon. It's a large open space that leads out in 5 different ways. If we get there, I can lead us out of here." (Last edited by Cairoi on 02-21-07 09:22 PM) |

Rei was slightly nervous as they crossed the street, but he didn't let it show.
He walked grudgingly across the walkways. He still felt that this direct path wasn't the best plan. But he guessed that the duo knew what they were doing, even if he didn't completely trust them. In fact, the only person in the group he really trusted was Avendia, which is why he was glad that she was the one watching his back. Ken was too closed off and distant, he couldn't tell much about him. Vincent was too showy, Alexis too egotistical, Alarath self-concerned, and Bria... well, there was nothing wrong with Bria, he just didn't really trust her. (()) |

*Avendia looked around the waterway with a small smile. The tunnel reminded her of some of the ones back home, in the larger tribe holdings. She didn't like not being at the front of the group, but she understood the necessity... this was foreign territory to her, and while scouting ahead would be useful down here, the urgency of the situation left little time for such actions. At least they had placed Rei in front of her so she could try to teach and walk at the same time.
As for the other placements... well, she was not sure about these city-dwellers just yet. Ken seemed honorable, though his actions seem to have proven to be a bit rash seeing has he had planned no escape route in advance. Vincent was still something of a mystery to her, far too flashy for her tastes, but Ken trusted him. The doctor did not sit well with her, she questioned his honor, but as long as he proved himself he would get no trouble from her. Alexis seemed the typical city-dweller, full of herself. As for the girl, Bria, she was young; and apparently far too naive. In many ways she felt sorry for the girl. She did not quite know what to make of Rei... he was a half-blood, something to be looked down on by her people. From what she could tell of his features he carried the blood of a Rain Animus, not the Sand. She did not know much about her jungle-dwelling cousins; only that they were strong in the magic... yet this one seemed to know none at all. Perhaps the reason that mixing was so disdained was because it muted the ability? Or it could be because there had been no one to guide him. Only time would tell* "Rei, pay attention for a second. What I am about to show you is one of the most important gifts that the Spirits give us: the Gift of Stealth. Open you heart to the whispers of the Old Ones, hear their voices and they will guide you. It may take awhile the first few times, but once a connection is made it will be there for life. Move your hands in the pattern they will guide you in, and feel the shadows wrapping around you. Wear them like a cloak, and they will hide your presence from even the most observant foe." *Avendia relaxed as she talked, letting her own connection to the Spirits guide her. She moved her hands in a intricate pattern as she walked and suddenly the shadows seemed to cling to her as she said they would. She blended into the wall almost, between the shadows cast by the torchlight and the color of her clothes* "Practice this until you master it, then you shall learn more."
