I've lately been spending an exorbitant amount of time reading since I still have some time left of winter break and over the last school semester I didn't really have much time to read for fun because I had so much assigned reading for various classes.
So, just for shits, if you're reading anything, what is it? Novel? Manga? The paper? Penthouse? Obviously you've read some part of this this post. I'm going over an issue of Hopeless Savages. Just finished Anansi Boys, Witches Abroad, Brave New World, and Hardcore Zen. Going to start Stardust today and have a ton of things coming in the mail over the next week from Amazon. I was planning to make this thread someday.
Heh. What I've been reading (and listening to, kinda) in the past few days is "Slipper man's Recording Distorted Guitar From Hell". link Lots of stuff about recording (and while this suggest it talks about distorted guitar, it doesn't really =D)

Haven't done any actual book reading in a while, but I'm thinking on picking up Acorna's Triumph. I've had it for a while and I just keep putting it off.

Well, right now I'm 'reading' Vellum. It's a very interesting book, albeit confusing, but very original and intriguing.
I also read some of the grafic novels in the Astro City series. Very interesting. Cities with tons of super heroes. But they are very deep. |

Just started reading The Silmarillion by J. R. R Tolkien
Good book; it's like a history text of Middle Earth and its creation. Tough read, but very interesting. |

I read it in middle school and thought it was a fun book, just like the Bible. I want to finish Sourcery, by Terry Pratchett, though.

for the past week or so i have been plowing steadily through the following:
Neil Gaiman's "Fragile Things" Ed Greedwood's "Elminster in Hell" Keith Taylor's "Bard" series (fucking amazing if you like history or fantasy or general wry badassery) Jacques Barzun's "Dawn to Decadance" and some interesting book from the seventies called "the Practice Effect"...the cover is ripped off so i dont know who it was written by Stardust is so amazing...i wish i could read it again for the first time. You are very lucky rogue (Last edited by venomouslobster on 01-08-07 09:09 AM) |

"Geek Love" (when I find it, haven't lost it Rogue, it's just in my room at mom's house)
"After Effects 7" - gotta learn it. "2061: Odyssey Three" - rereading the whole series. It's the fourth time. I still don't understand what's going on. "A Scanner Darkly" by Philip K. Dick - My fun book. Then, there's working on my novels for the publishing company... |

Finished Stardust (I actually started it on Monday ), and am now halfway through Colour of Magic.
SPOILERS for some I noticed that American Gods, Anansi Boys, and Stardust are very much alike. In the cases of Shadow, Fat Charlie, and Tristran: - They are sons of ethereal beings (well in Tristran's case, he's half Faerie). - They have a true love who isn't exactly true to them (Laura, Rosie, Victoria). - They tend to find other women along the way (Tristran has Yvaine, Charlie has Daisy, Shadow had Bast). - They are unlucky underdogs. - They're on figurative journeys for different reasons, but these journeys make them realize who/what they are. - Their dreams tend to be interactions with other ethereal beings or divine places. Granted Sandman, Good Omens, and "MirrorMask" don't follow this formula, and Neverwhere falls in there a little, pattern or not I still think Gaiman is a VERY talented storyteller. I've been reading steadily through the Wheel of Time series as of late, currently I am reading book seven, A Crown of Swords. Love the series, even though I occationally want to hit characters with bricks to knock some sense into them.
Other than that I recently finished Angels and Demons. Personally I think it would have made a better movie that The Da Vinci Code. |

I just recently finished the Party Monsterbook by James St. James. Currently I am reading the INXS autobiography. Originally posted by Shuyin O_o **cough** Anywho... I LOVE reading. Been reading all throughout my winter break. I finished this book called "The Snow Garden" by Christopher Rice. The name sounds kinda corny, but the book isn't that bad. I also read "Blood and Chocolate" by...I forget. XD Yah, only two, but I babysat alot and stuff during the break too...and while they're all old enough ('cept Brielle) that I can just pop in a movie for the younger ones, and let the older ones go out with their friends so that I can do things I wanna do...its just too fun playing with the kids when I do have them. :p As of now though...I am currently reading my Japanese textbook. Brushing up on last semester's stuff and getting a jump start on the chapter we're opening this semester with. |

Right now then I'm reading a good book called Rogue Clone. It has a great plot, philosophy, and is thought provoking. It's the sequal to another great book called The Clone Republic, which was unbeatable.
I'd highly reccomend both, assuming you can aquire a copy of them, most people I know haven't heard of it. |

I finished recently the new Halo book : Ghosts of Onyx. For any halo fans, this is one of the better books (Much like the fall of reach, same author, and not as over the top as the last one that came out.)
After that, I finished last week : Let the Galaxy Burn. Book 3 in the Horus Heresy series to date. 3rd book was by Ben Counter. He's good so far. First book was by Dan Abnett. My all-time favorite author (Gaunts Ghost series, all 3 of them so far, Eisenhorn Trilogy, Ravenor books, a few others, all excellent if you're into these kind of books) Next I've got Soul Drinkers. Triology done by Ben Counter. I look forward to reading through it all. I plan on picking up a few more traditional hard Science Fiction books soon, finishing one I've got here, Robotica or whatever, and then I want to get into a little fantasy for inspiration eventually. But anyhow. I LOVE reading. I own more books than anything else, both in number and in value If that means anything. |

I'm currently in the middle of Sirena, this story about a mermaid falling in love with a marooned Greek soldier amid the Trojan War. I read it in middle school, but decided to re-read it because a friend was mentioning how into it she was and I realized I couldn't remember much of it or even exactly how it ended other than it was overly tragic.
In the way of manga and graphic novels, I recently was given the first four volumes of "Priest" and the latest volume of "Lady Snowblood." Other books recently added to my pile: Smoke and Mirrors (It's always been on my list, but it finally just arrived in the mail) Enchanted Road to Wellville (Also always been on the list) Bloody Jack (Yeah, it's young adult, but I figured I'd see what the fuss was about) Farewell to Manzanar We'll see how quickly these get plowed through. I've been wanting to join a book club now. |

Originally posted by Carmen Sandiego Nothing wrong with reading younger stuff. I still do. Prolly will do so once in a while unless I change my attitude toward "childish" things. No one should ever forget being a kid. I read a lot and I remember getting these kickass feelings after reading certain books. I still pick them up once in a while. Lesse...newest book..."Interpreter of Maladies" by Jhumpa Lahiri. It's a collection of short stories really. I had to get it for my English class this semester, and we were only assigned to read one of the stories so far, "The Third and Final Continent", but after reading it, I kinda fell in love with Lahiri's writing, so I just went around and picked random stories to read. Just bought the book last Friday (It's not that long though) and there's only 2 more stories in it left to read. XD |
