I know some of the old, and newer (I suppose), LBCC crowd were starting to lean right. Anyway, to keep on topic, fuck the volunteer situation at this comic convention this weekend. It's supposed to be that you work 4 hours and then you can enjoy the rest of the day, but the guy we've got has us work 8, 9, 10-hour days and he's never around to help us, find us relief, or allow us to even go off to watch a panel or walk the exhibit hall floor for a while. I pretty much worked registration from opening to closing two days straight and got to watch half of a panel I wanted to see and was even guilt-tripped for that. It's fucking slave labor, and I'm seeing other volunteers getting preferential treatment and doing all the cool jobs while the rest of us are stuck working. Yeah, I'm taking that job covering an event today to avoid going to the con. It's THAT bad. Me, the convention addict, willing to forgo a con? You know something's amiss. |

| My heart felt as though it stopped as I pulled myself into my car after covering a Native American powwow to hear the radio fire on as I turned the key in the ignition. The first sounds: "This just in. It is confirmed. Osama bin Laden is DEAD."
The next comment went, "And his son. WHAT. A. DOUCHEBAG. Using a woman as a human shield?" I agree, FX. Life is precious. Since hearing the news, I was at a bar watching my boyfriend's band while people toasted the man's death. It felt weird. I mean, he's got the blood of thousands on his hands. I get it. There's a sense of relief and victory. But yeah, there's something wrong about celebrating a death. I feel like it's no better than September 11th when video of people cheering in the streets of the Middle East was broadcast. | Well, see, there are no pictures. At least none have been released to the public yet, anyway.
And the body was disposed of rather quickly (supposedly following Islamic tradition), so no one can prove or disprove that it was him by burying him at sea, giving the explanation that it was so his grave would not be a shrine or gathering place for Al Qaeda members and so on. They claim they have DNA evidence saying they're 99% sure it's him, but they don't tell you how the testing was conducted or what have you. It's just all rather unsettling. | Fuck the way I've been feeling lately. My body's in constant pain and I can barely walk. My back hurts. My feet REALLY hurt. My legs barely work. My head is throbbing, and I'm running a fever.
I have a paper to write (15 pages) that's due tomorrow and I have to do a 15 minute presentation on it. Feeling shitty for the past few days I haven't bothered starting. Motherfucker. |

| Oddly enough, I think it was more Bogfest, Saturday night, that destroyed me. I spent three hours sitting and leaning against a palm tree covered in Christmas lights and I kept having to re-adjust because my back, legs, and tailbone were killing me.
I was actually surprised when I was able to stand up. Didn't help that the next day was entirely draining. |

Laying around watching Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian again. Borrowed it from the library, despite having already seen it a few times. Saw it before seeing the first movie, actually.

Yeah, I know these movies are cheesy. And I'm aware they're starring Ben Stiller. But I'm a sucker for museums and historical figures and the like. They're fun movies.

My presentation went pretty well. Since the people ahead of me went over their allotted 15 minutes each, mine was cut short, but I pick it up on Tuesday. I was getting ready to show them the anti-comic PSA from the '50s.

What kills me about people doing Powerpoints is they usually write everything they want to say in the Powerpoint and then read it to you at a snail's pace. It's ridiculous and it makes your audience suicidal.

I guess it was just the flu. I came back to work today and now I'm hearing multiple people in the building making the same complaints -- exhaustion, muscle aches, fever, but no coughing or nausea.

On that note, fuck the fact that there is a woman sobbing in her office with the door shut right now. The poor woman has lymphoma and she's started going through chemo, but now she has a blood clot in her leg and it's painful and infected and her husband said he's too busy to come get her to take her to the hospital. I REALLY wish I had a car here right now.
