It only did it 3 different times yesterday. I haven't noticed it since.
|
Also just a note, did the server time change? I remember it being on the Greenwich Mean Time that I had to put in my profile to put me 8 hours behind, but now it's on Eastern Standard Time. Just wondering as I had to adjust the clock on for me. Maybe others have to as well?

Slashdot posted this hilarious argument Orson Scott Card made against J.K. Rowling, who's in the process of suing Harry Potter Lexicon for what she believes as stealing "descriptions, character details, and plot points" from the HP series, that she feels only she should profit from.
|
Article on that if you're interested: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071114-infringus-maximus-rowling-wins-injunction-against-harry-potter-lexicon.html Orson Scott Card, author of the widely-popular Ender's Game, makes an unbelievably hilarious observation of Ms. Rowling inadvertantly stealing his own plot points. Article: http://www.linearpublishing.com/RhinoStory.html Originally posted by Orson Scott Card I bolded a part of the above to call attention to the observation. TL;DR? Pretty much Harry Potter is Ender's Game but with witches and wizards in place of the space marine training facility (or whatever it was that all the children learning to fight buggers were kept).

Then maybe if Kaijin posted just a test post to make so he was the last one to say something, then you guys could go back to the battle.

I tried going to your "Show posts" to see if that post somehow appeared there and then I'd get the code to delete it for you, but no such luck. EDIT: Or I'll do it, just to make it faster. I don't think Xeo allows for deleting posts any more, but if it's allowed, once you get to posting again in the thread, I'll try to delete my interruption. (Last edited by Rogue on 05-02-08 10:44 AM)

I haven't seen this yet, but I'm hearing from a few people that you have to stay through the credits as there's something you must see.

Spoiler: Supposedly it hints toward the possible Avengers movie. (Last edited by Rogue on 05-02-08 03:47 PM)

I don't care what arguments people have tried to make against Orson Scott Card (you get the occasional people who interject that he's racist or that he started centering his writing on his religion).
|
I loved Ender's Game and this is the funniest thing I've read all week. I used to adore J.K. Rowling, even as Orson put it about her "Cinderella story" charming us. It seemed like when Goblet of Fire came out, she made this weird shift toward merchandising (this was also around the time the first movie was announced). I wonder if she'll sue Cliff's Notes in a few years.

I really don't like the name for him, and he doesn't answer to it anyway. I'm trying to think of one-syllable Star Trek names for him and thus far have come up with Gorn and Spock. He occasionally seems to answer to Gorn. Dunno. Might work. EDIT: We decided to name him Riker. Fuck it. (Last edited by Rogue on 05-07-08 01:51 AM)

Yeah, I know he did that. I honestly do not have a problem with it, but when Anne Rice denounced her vampire books and started writing about Catholicism, people started down-casting OSC as well.
|
On other boards I used to visit people would attack him on that point ALONE saying they used to respect him, but now they hate his work for his concentrating on Mormonism. People are very stupid creatures. Take Tom Cruise's Scientology-conversion for example. Suddenly any enjoyable movies he's ever made are looked down upon for his recent unfavorable appearances in the media. Just because Tom Cruise has chosen a faith others oppose, and to be honest he has said some pretty out-there things, I'm not going to start hating Interview with the Vampire. Same with Anne Rice, regarding the same title respectively (though my reasons for disliking her these days are numerous in nature and none of it having to do with her sudden jump to writing about Christ so much as her absolute disregard for her ever-loving fanbase. She's biting the hand that feeds her, I tell you). It seems like whenever religion comes into play with a celebrity, suddenly they become a target for ridicule (I mean how many people started despising Mel Gibson for his making The Passion of the Christ alone, and before his anti-semitic comments when he got pulled over?). As though by announcing to the world that they want to concentrate on something they feel spiritually strong about, their work is suddenly garbage. One has to separate the artist from their piece. That's all I'm saying. It's really ignorant to do otherwise. (Last edited by Rogue on 05-05-08 12:05 PM)

A woman at my mom's work had a cat she needed to give away. The going problem was that the cat wasn't getting along with her four cats and she was telling people it was a great cat to own--very loving and playful and just needed owners who would give him the attention he deserved.
|
My parents decided to adopt the cat and brought him home two days ago. The woman said if we had any issues to return him to her and not to any animal shelters. This cat was fairly large and muscular, a little over a year old (at least that's what this woman claimed he was), and was a stray for the better part of his life. Like most cats that are adopted they try to get used to their environment and adapt to the other creatures around it. Miko, my female Russian blue cat, didn't take to him very well, hissing and growling at him like territorial cats do when they feel intruded upon. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt as he was new to us and Miko can be pretty bitchy. Last night, though, he attacked Miko, who's much smaller and weaker than he is. Even when she tried to get away, with clumps of her hair ripped out, scratches and bites here and there, he pursued her until I got him to go away. She spent last night and most of today, hiding in a crawl space in the attic where no one can reach her. I had my parents take the new cat back today much to my own sorrow as I fear he may end up put to sleep if a proper home can't be found for him. I've spent the last day feeling horrible about having to return a cat, something I've never had to do. Insult to injury, the woman wrote e-mails to us to say we were impatient, that we pampered Miko too much, and that maybe we shouldn't have pets at all. We weren't the first family to take in this cat. We were the fourth. She even wrote in her e-mails about how the last couple who had him kept him for a whole month despite having cats who also didn't get along with him. So let me get this straight--I have to let this guy kill my cat in order to convey that we were trying to be patient with him? FUCK THAT. I may tease Miko from time to time, but I'm not willing to put her in harm's way to prove shit to a woman who's laced with a cat that no one can handle and plays it off that they aren't worthy of him. Incidentally, without provoking him, this cat has bitten me on 4 separate occasions, drawing blood each time, and almost biting me several other times when he would get in front of me, as if to beg for me to pet him. Sorry to rant on this, but yeah, I'm pretty irked right now.

If you look through her first book, you might notice how many historical and fantasy references she makes and hides in the details. Enough to make a child curious and maybe even look up who many of the sorcerers and witches she mentions were.

When it comes right down to it, HP is meant for kids, and works well as a stepping stone to other books. She just happened to start making the story a bit more adult-like as she realized there were many more people over the age of 10 picking these up (as well as HP's becoming more of a teenager with teenage-drama). And taking them way too seriously, I might add... ![]() ![]() Seriously? The bottom one isn't even cut right or in the right place. ![]() It kills me when people like that say Trekkers/Trekkies are geeks and HP fans are cool.

Originally posted by Valhalla That's my thought exactly. It's not his fault that he was a stray during his developmental years and had to fight (probably to the death) for his share of everything. I've taken in a couple strays before, but at the time I didn't have any other cats. I feel that if he were taken in by a single man, they'd get along fine. He's really not a petting cat, but will demand that sort of attention from time to time. The other issue we were having was that this cat is used to being outdoors. The woman who gave him to my parents insisted that we keep him inside so he would know where to come home to and so he wouldn't run away. It's a good idea, but because we fought tooth and nail to keep him indoors, he probably was getting frustrated and turned his aggression on Miko. This could also explain why he was biting us. To be honest, I really wish we could have kept him. He's a magnificent creature. If we didn't have Miko, there wouldn't be an issue at all. We'd just let him be and that would be all. But he attacked Miko. It's not an issue of pampering her or favoritism. Were the tables turned and Miko had nearly killed him, we'd still try to return him for his own safety.

I'm feeling a bit stressed with my finals next week. My stats finals (there's 2) are, combined, worth 40% of my grade.
|
Am feeling a little nervous since the latest stuff he's been teaching doesn't make much sense to me. Well, here's hoping I get at least a decent enough grade to report it to the universities and leave LBCC behind me for good.

Seriously you have no idea how much Xeo missed you, Shuyin.
|
It's like every other post, "Did anyone tell Shuyin about the board? Does anyone have a way of reaching him? He said he's coming back. Omg, does this skirt make my butt look big?" Hehe. Just kidding. But yeah, we miss ya. ![]()
