Wow...just....omg....

I laughed at that! I don't watch TV, so I tend to miss these sort of things... =/

As for old TV Jingles, I agree that they need to come back....=P

Lasik is now a viable option for pilots, but I'm too poor to afford it. If I get assigned to a boat, I'll just have to complain all the time and not go near windows or the edge of the boat. I'm not afraid of the water, but I don't like boats in any case.

Its really sad that Neil Armstrong has died today, after complications from heart surgery. He was 82. Armstrong was a very private man, but also very famous. I'm sure the aerospace industry will miss him most, along with the space enthusiast crowd. I know I am sad to see him go.

Neil Armstrong, thank you for all you have given us, and what you will continue to give future generations - a place to start in the expansion of human spaceflight.

Posted on 08-26-12 12:11 AM, in Tommy Jordan shoots his daughters laptop and? Link
As a 2nd Amendment enthusiast, let me clear up a few things:

1) Hollow point rounds are used in defense because they expand and cause massive tissue damage. In civilized places, victims are likely to get proper medical treatment. The Geneva Convention bans the use of hollow points in WAR and ONLY in WAR because of the extra tissue damage. In war, its not so easy to get proper medical attention in time to save a life.

2) Hollow point rounds are available at any sporting goods store that sells ammo, including Wal-Mart. You must be 21 or older to purchase any kind of ammo. However, the father in the video probably meant that the daughter would have to pay him to cover the cost of buying replacement rounds.

3) The ammo in the video is described as "Exploding Hollow Point" ammo. This is not easy to find, is much more expensive, and requires an explosives permit. This kind of ammo, if it is true that he used it, is both dangerous and un-necessary. I think he meant that it was "non-jacketed hollow point" ammo.

As for the rest of the video:

- I don't agree with shooting (or otherwise intentionally damaging) anything that still works. I'd have sold or given away the laptop. However, it is his choice. He owns it.

- Minors in the United States are never the legal owners of any property, but their parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) are the owners of their property. Thus, the daughter could not legally "own" anything until the age of 18.

- When it comes to reading the daughter's Facebook, I don't see an issue. Minors do not have the right to selective privacy. In fact, they don't have the right to privacy at all from their parent(s)/guardian(s). It is a privilege that must be earned. If a kid posts something on facebook, it is public knowledge and the parent has a right to know what was posted and when. This is different from a private diary, which I would not agree with reading without permission or without very extreme circumstances.

- Kids (and Americans in general) are pampered, babied, rude, entitled, ignorant, stupid assholes. I think this horse has been beaten to a pulp, so I won't go on.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, nor do I have any formal training in the law. Nothing in this post should be taken as legal advice. This has been a long rant/post.

This thread will remain open for others, but these are the order we're getting them in.

Expect your threads to begin on subsequent Fridays.

So the schedule is as follows:
Lord Alexandor ...................... August 31
Xeo ...................................... September 7
Elara .................................... September 14
Katana ................................. September 21
Cteno ................................... September 28
Belial ................................... October 5

Your interviews will last approximately a week, depending on how often you post in them. I'm shooting for at least 10 questions apiece, but I could do more if you're active.

I won't be able to do interviews this coming week - vacation from Aug 30 till Sept 3 and then work is super crazy busy (9 to 11 hr days) because of back to school. bump me down to mid/late September or October if possible. I should be able to post more then... Sorry to mess with the schedule!

Bump with updates!

So, I went and took the ASVAB and went through MEPS today. Turns out I am really smart compared to most of the other applicants. I got an AFQT score of 95. But, on the medical side, I got DQ'ed for being under weight. I only weigh 114 lbs, and there is a minimum of 128 lbs. No one told me there was a minimum weight requirement and it isn't exactly listed on the Air Force website.

Anyway, I have to gain 14 pounds by November 5th of this year to join without taking the medical exams again. Yay weight gain! Anyone have any tips for gaining weight? All I found was "eat everything you can cram in your stomach" and "eat lots of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches" but that is going to be tough for me. I like pasta and I don't like over-eating. =/

In any case, I already picked out and blocked out a job (enlisted) in case I can make it. I'd be doing Knowledge Operations Management (AFSC 3D0XX). If I can make it in by October 1st, I can get a $10k bonus and an automatic rank-up to E3 (Airman 1st Class). I've emailed my recruiter about applying to OTS (again) and won't enlist until I know I'm denied for OTS...unless I should just go for enlisted and apply for OTS later?

Everything about my journey thus far is on my blog.

I already gained quite a bit of weight, so I'm not too concerned. I went out and got some of that weight gainer stuff, and had one shake...I got heavier, fo' sho'! I'm shooting for 135-ish before I go to weigh in, that way I have a bit of swing. I'm also working out every weekday to help keep in shape while I put on pounds. I am only drinking the weight gain shakes on days when I am working out, and I'm only having 1 shake per day (as opposed to the "recommended serving" of 2 shakes) due to the fact that my stomach doesn't like that much dairy...=P

Anyway, I should be good to go in a few weeks. 14 lbs is not much to add...XD

The problem with that is that iFrames are dangerous. That is why the tag is blocked. iFrames can link any content to anywhere. Embedding the video is safer, but some sites are silly and don't give proper embed codes...

I'm sure we can work something out though...=D

Well, that's a tall order... Lets start with the questions you asked, then I'll add to that.

Where am I from? I'm from south east Michigan, but I won't say exactly where. But I will say I'm within driving distance of Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

What have I been doing? I've been working, playing games, and trying to gain weight to join the US Air Force (more on this later). What do I plan to do? Join the US Air Force as an officer, have some kids, and lead a productive life. I would love to actually finish my online battle thing that I started a long time ago, but its very complicated and I got tired of working on it. I still have everything for it, though.

What am I into? Computers, technology, the internet, Minecraft, Reddit, and some webcomics. I love playing Minecraft, Saints Row the Third, and Black Mesa at the moment. I also like to sit and play Harvest Moon on occasion. I like programming and making web pages, but that's more of a hobby.

Anything else? I'm really excited to get into the USAF, and I'm blogging my experience on my website (The Airman's Life) and will continue to update it when I can. I'm happily married (3 years!) to my wonderful wife and have a cat named Cruz who is adorable and silly. I ran Dark UnderWorld Mega Forums back in the day, and I've been on Xeogaming since it was Masters of Darkness (or something like that). I enjoy watching Castle, Dr. Who, and a few other shows on TV, but otherwise I hate popular media. I watch a lot of stuff online, though. I lurk Reddit daily (almost) and I enjoy reading XKCD and Shlock Mercenary (to name a few webcomics). I love going to the range, but 9mm ammo is a bit expensive to go more than 2 times per month. I enjoy strategy games and chatting about space, science, computers and other geeky things. My parents and brother are really great, and we try to get together often to play board games.

My wife wants to watch Captain America now, so I'll just end here. I'm sure we'll learn more later in this interview. I'll try to post as often as I can. =D

Why the Air Force? Well, Army is too much ground pounding and high combat. Marines are pretty much the same way, but with even more rules...and they go on boats. Navy is pretty much boats and ocean...I don't like ocean. Coast Guard is boats, water, and jumping into the water. I'm not a water guy. I'm also skinny and scrawny, so I don't want much combat or ground-pounding.

The Air Force is more like a business than the other branches, and it tends to have less combat (and water) than the others. Also, USAF has space, airplanes, and "Cyberspace" operations. I'm actually hoping to go into logistics, personnel (which is over-employed), public relations, or something with computers. I currently have a job blocked out for Knowlege Operations if I enlist, but I'm kind of hoping to go officer. Officers get better pay and much more awesome jobs. Plus, officers can fly stuff (planes, drones, etc).

For the full details on why I chose to be in the Air Force, check the first post of my blog (link) where I go into detail about my situation and why I always wanted to be a pilot, but couldn't due to eye sight. Now, I am going because its a full time job with good benefits and a way to get out of Michigan.

I don't really know... Maybe its my love of logical things? Most computer-related things are very logical and easy for me to follow. Programming allows me to problem solve and be creative. Web design lets me be artistic at the same time. The fact that it is primarily cognative rather than physical activity also makes me happy - I'm lazy and I don't have a very "strong" body.

I am also a stickler for making things according to specifications. I try to keep all my web stuff within the W3C specs and I try to keep my programming easy to follow. I code so others can see and understand what is happening. That often leads me to be inefficient, but it makes changes and revisions so much easier.

Computers are also very easy for me to figure out because of their logic. I tend to be the guy that my friends call about computer problems, especially when they don't want to look like an idiot. I always help people with computer problems in a dignified manner...unless they are a dick. I've built computers and fixed them for friends and family for years, and I love it.

Well, my dad works on Special Projects for GM, so I don't really know what he does. He's pretty cool and taught me a lot about disipline, self-control, and good work ethic. He's also where my brother and I get our crazy from. =P He's silly, to put it mildly. He is a total business man, but is more in touch with the rest of America when it comes to economics. He is also a big car guy, having owned 20+ mustans and a ferari in college. He re-built cars and sold them for a long time. =D

My mom is a church volunteer. We're all christian, but not super zelous or anything. She is trying to save their struggling (financially) church as basically the finance committee. She bowls in a league and does stained glass. Pretty cool stay at home mom for the most part, but she did do substitute teaching. She has a degree in civil engineering or architecture (not sure which). She is super nice, but seems to be getting a shorter temper as she ages.

My older brother is still registered here (Soul_Of_Steel, but doesn't post at all. He's kind of...different...from the rest of us. He's really big into anime, MLP, and fan fiction. He is also super lazy and very intelligent. I love that he goes to play games every month at a nearby comic shop. He does Warhammer 40k and other tabletop games and always has something new for us to play. He's the odd sheep, but he keeps us all together.

Growing up, we moved a few times for my Dad's work, but it was all good. My brother and I didn't get along so well during my middle/high school years, but before that and since I was a junior in college, we got along great. I think I will miss my brother the most when I ship out with the military, but I'll definately call my mom most often. I love my dad like crazy, but we have a complicated relationship. We are both very stubborn and have somewhat opposing views for politics, religion, economics, and a few other things, but we share plenty in common, like a love of guns, security, and general goofyness.

Well, that's all I can write for now - I have to get back to work. Yay meal break with Taco Bell and Xeogaming!

Well, my wife and I met in college (freshman year) and got married in August 2009 after we graduated in May. I really love her, but sometimes she can be difficult. I think that's just the way life is. She is really into books, musicals, TV, movies, theater, and "crafts" as she calls them. Things like knitting, leather work, scrapbooking, and sewing. We often just do our own thing, but we do like to watch movies together, watch Dr. Who and Castle together, and whatever else we can when we're able to. Her work schedule (Salvation Army) and mine (Office Max) often don't line up for much together time. Its ok, though, since we've been together for so long. I'd like to have regular schedules so we could see each other more often, but such is life. I'm hoping that once my training is done, I'll be able to see her daily.

Wow...where'd you find that? Those songs would no longer be my theme songs...except "In The End" by Linkin Park. I'd have to add "Wretches and Kings" (album: A Thousand Suns) and "Hands Held High" (album: Minutes to Midnight [explicit]) to that list.

Why those songs? The lyrics in the later two really speak to how I feel the situation in America is/will be and I also like the music itself. I think the two albums (Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns) are more like messages about how many people feel in the USA. I like "In The End" because it reminds me of my character's background and what he is like. If you want more about that, ask it separately, since I could write a couple pages on that if we really want to go there.

As for the old songs ("In The Light" and "Forever Today"), I liked the lyrics of "In The Light" for how I was feeling spiritually, but now I feel like I'm either already there, or I'm not really trying that hard to go further. And sadly, I'm OK with that. As for "Forever Today" I really like how it started of kind of slow and classical...almost sad, but it starts to pick up at around 3:18 and becomes a more upbeat electronica beat. That change is smooth and really feels...organic? It feels like the song just belongs as a theme song or something. But, neither really fit what I feel these days. I keep "In The End" just for sentimental reasons.

Since I can't seem to get the embed codes to work for my music player, I'll just link you to a page: [link]

I just got a date to take the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test! Woo! I go on October 3rd at 8am at Selfridge ANGB 2nd at 7:30am at Detroit MEPS!

[Blog post]

EDIT: changed time and date for faster results - MEPS is faster than taking on base.
