| OOC: I was thinking that this would be between Dirk and Spartan... hence the challenge to Spartan... I also thought that the two lack magical powers, and only have their technology and skills to rely on. The training exercise was something I thought would add a bit of interest to the fight, give a reason why we are both here rather than just "Here I am come fight me." I like to give a reason why I am going to fight a particular opponent, I am hired to kill you, you were hired to kill me, you just wipped out a platoon of guys on my side in a training mission and now I feel an overwhelming need to kick some ass... that kind of thing. I guess you can make you character whoever you want though, just please... no magic. And I guess it could be a conventional battlefield... the entire platoon is dead or unconsious. The surroundings are as described though, an urban environment, lots of places to hide, or run to. | |||

| I just saw this and couldn't help throwing my two cents in the bucket.
First, on the moving out thing. You need to be sure you are truly ready for the responsibility of being on your own. As I don't really know you, I can't say that you are or not, I am guessing probably yes. Anyway my point is that you need to know yourself. Can you accept the full responsibilies that come with supporting yourself? Yes there are more freedoms (not having parents breathing down your neck 24/7 for example) but there are also responsibilies (making sure you get the water bill on time so you can still shower the next week... ironic I would use that as an example... my mom works for the city and cuts off peoples' water when they don't pay their bills, but that is not the point) the point is that you need to balance all of your pro and cons... and the end result is what you should follow. For example, I am stubborn as hell, my friends know this. Come the 21st I would love to move out and find my own place, but i know there is no way in hell i would be able to afford it. I work a combined total of about 20 hours a week... and I will be starting at the JC come that same date. These two things throw a huge shift in the cons side of the equation. Despite how much I may want to, I can't move out and I have accepted that. I just hope I can afford to move out by next summer... my dad is getting transfered to a recruiting job in Arkansas for the Coast Guard... *shudders*... the first thing that pops into my head is a part of the Dueling Banjos. (no offense to anyone that lives in Arkansas or anyone that likes banjos... i think they sound good). Second, on the job thing. I spent 3 months looking for a job about a year... maybe a year and a half ago. Applied at at least 40 places. Everything from Shutterbug, Walmart, and Target to Taco Bell, McDonald's, and Burger king... I got 3 call back total... those were from the Mickey D's and Burger King, and also from Baskin Robins. Went in for interviews and didn't get any of those jobs (I like to think that they thought I was over qualified, but I bet it was most likely my long hair. I am not entirely ignorant to the workings of the world.) But then applied for a job at this place called Copperworks in Petaluma, got hired on the spot. Now I work with sheet metal all day. Some of the stuff I do is fun, like just today, I designed a lamp... now I just need to acctually build the lamp. Should be interesting. My point, just keep looking and sooner or later you will find something. If you like it, stay with it, if not, refine your search... but don't quit that one 'till you have another job lined up... know a guy who has done that like three times now... |

*Dirk blocks the sword with his rifle, the blade driving halfway through the barrel turning it into a big useless peice of plastic and metal. He releases the rifle, leaving it attatched to Spartan's sword. Stepping back he quickly draws his swords. Spinning the deutronium blades in a whirring wheel around him, he shifts so that his right arm is torward Spartan. He waits for Spartan's next move.* |

| *Kendrick spun left as the vampire lunged for him. His sword flashes left as he decapitates it, the body exploding into a pile of burning ash. He turns to the last one, it staring at his fallen companion, then turns and runs. When he is sure that it is gone, Kendrick stands and sheathes his swords. Straitening his leather duster, he walks over to where he had dropped his gun. The sound of applause comes from the doorway. He turns, the UV light mounted under the barrel of the gun fixing on a man in the doorway. Now sure that the man is not a vamp, he lowers his gun.*
You have seen more than you should... if that last one saw you standing there, you are at risk. *The man lets out a small laugh, then replies.* Shadow, or should I say... Kendrick Omari... can I call you Kendrick? You are as good as they say you are. I work for the government, and we would like you to help us. *Kendrick snorts.* I prefer to work alone. *The man takes a moment to absorb this.* Well if that is the way you feel, then I guess I need to up the ante... I happen to know that you are not legally immigrated here. With a few calls I could have you deported... and neither of us wants that. *Kendrick glares at him, he is silent for a minute before responding.* What does the government 'need' from me? *The man responds.* The government is forming an elite team to do a job that you seem to... shall I say... enjoy doing. They will be in service to our government slaying vampires. Come with me and I can make sure you become a legal citizen. Choose to stay here... and kiss this fine country goodbye... I will make sure that you will never see it again... Ever. *Kendrick struggles with an internal debate for a few moments.* Fine... lets go... *A few hours later, he walks into the room Alicia is sitting in. The helicopter ride was boring as hell, cooped up on the inside of Sardine can. He walks in, pulling the scabbard holding his swords off his back. Walking to the center of the room, he sits. Laying the scabbard at his sides, he begins a meditation technique to clear his mind of the possibilities arrayed before him.* |

| *Dirk's visor also polorizes, the lense turning almost black, the armor has the unfortunate capacity of projecting external sounds to the wearer, but fortunately not at the same depth as the original sound. Because of this he is slightly dazed from the blast. Stepping back he allows Spartan's blade to pass by harmlessly. He lunges forward, a half-hearted swing launched at Spartan as he activates the armor's camo. He dissapears into nothing more than a slight distortion created by the light bending field. Even the swordblades are encompassed by this field. He stands perfectly still, watching Spartan, the swords raised defensively.* | |||

And you never knew the capabilities of Duetronium. *Dirk spins to the left, again out of Spartan's reach. His blades leveled before him.* When crafted properly... it is damn near indistructable. *He lunges forward, his left sword diving for Spartan's heart.* |

That was a bit more subtel than what I got... guy practically dragged me here. Guess they thought a letter wouldn't get my attention. *Kendrick grabbes the scabbard and slings it back over his shoulder. Standing he walks to the last of the chairs, sitting down in it.* From what I've heard, the next few weeks could be interesting. And no. You can't kill whoever it is. I want to find out what the hell this is all about, and if we kill whoever is missing.... i am sure we will have to wait for a replacement... how governments always work. Personally, I just want to get this bullshit done with. |

They killed my family, and then left me for dead when I didn't believe the bullshit the coroners fed me. I carry the scars from that encouter as a reminder of what I need to do. | I have to agree with X Marks the Spot... Humanity itself is the root of all things that we consider to be evil. This is mostly because the concepts of good and evil are human concepts... words we use to describe an act or impulse we cannot (or can as the case may be) justify. America, and the world as a whole lacks morality because of the people that populate it. I admit, my morals are a little on the loose side for the most part, but there are areas where it is very adamant. Sex would be a good example. I disagree with the concept of pre-marital sex, and because of this I won't have sex until after the ceremony, not even the day before. If someone were to ask me why, I would tell them that sex is something to be shared by two people and two people only. The concept of "casual sex" is bullshit. As far as I am concerned, sex should be a symbol of love, not just a "hey your hot, lets knock boots!" kind of thing. I think this is why a lot of marriages don't work. A lot of people start sleeping around while in their teens. This turns sex from the physical embodiment of a couple's love into just something you do with your current girlfriend/boyfriend in the eyes of a lot of people. I will only have sex with one person, two at the absolute most, and then only in the event that something happened to break up the first marriage and I got married a second time.
Another problem is that people no longer grasp concepts like honor and loyalty. I have honor, as I believe much of the old chivilrous codes, things like respect women, respect others, help others... things like that. Most people today wouldn't help their own flesh and blood if it meant risking themselves. And a lot of people are loyal only to themselves. These people don't consider the implications their actions may have on others, only how it affects them directly. If they do not benefit, or see a future benefit for themselves, they see no reason to act. I am going through a situation in which a friend of mine is getting married, and it is not something I want to see happen. I am madly in love with her, and the thought of her marrying someone else is like a knife through the heart every day. But if I am invited to the wedding, I would go... Hell, I would give a speech if she asked me to... not because I want to, but because of my loyalty and devotion to her. That loyalty, that respect of her, is what keeps me from trying to disrupt her engagement, no matter what the outcome for me is. Respect is another major problem, but I will not even begin to get into that. I apologize if anyone is offended by this, but I am brutally honest in my assessments, at least from what I see. Also, I only use myself as an example because these are all things that I see that need to change, and these are concepts I follow. I am sure the vast majoity of you will feel the same way I do. |

| *Darren finishes his food, then stands and leaves. He returns to the barracks where he sleeps for the rest of the night. The next morning, he purchases the nessesary supplies for the task at hand. He buys food, and a few wineskins which he has filled with water. When he returns to the barracks, he dons his light leather armor and grabs his longsword, the blade of which had been inscribed with runes by one of the mages that had been teaching him to harness his magical powers. Strapping the sword to his side, he mentally runs through the incantations to activate his spells. Checking in with the officer in charge, a lieutenant from the army, he informs him that he will be gone for the next few weeks. After that he leaves the city, following the path to the mountain pass and the lake he was told to meet the Kalaran archer. He was at the foothills when he stopped to make camp that night. It was just before noon when he arrived at the lake. He looks around, one hand on his sword should the archer try anything hostile.* | |||

The servos in his armor, combined with a gravity lower than he is used to allow him to gain an impressive amount of height for a counter jump. Spartan's sword passes harmlessly below him. Are we fighting vampires or werewolves, cause if you are sending us off to fight humans, this is some of the most expesive ammo I've ever seen. The poor sods would be able to buy their own coffins with what hits them. |
