Alden sighed sighed.

"Brad, we've known each other for a long time. You even served under me before this stupid war broke out. ((Yes, I am totally making up history for you )) And I'd like to think you'd know me better than that. I would never surrender my people to foreign forces. They chose me as their leader. If they wanted Jack as a leader, then they would join the E'shyum. Unfortunately, that is not the decision they made, and therefore I can't hand them over to you. You must have figured that I wouldn't give up that easy. You must also know that as we speak, my men are finding the bombs and dismantling them."

Major General Henry Marina was overwhelmed with emotions.

"Holly, you are so much like your mother. She had a fiery temper too. That's one of the reasons I fell in love with her."

He wanted to hug his dauter. It had been many years since she had run away, and he had never missed anyone as much during that time, not even her mother. To avoid confronting his feelings, he had submerged himself in his work, even more than usual.

No, since I have a Mac already, and if I wanted to buy anything else it would either be from CompUSA, or directly from Apple. But I am glad that macs are being more widely sold.

Marina looked strangely at the drugged up Leon. Damn hippy. He turned and raced after his daughter.

"Holly, wait! You can't go in there! It could interrupt a very important meeting--"

"Brad, you make me out to be an chauvinistic dictator. Is the propaganda that you sell your people? If that's so, you need to seriously reconsider your--"

He was interrupted as a furious Holly barged into the room.

I just saw a commercial for Happy Tree friends and Joe Cartoon DVD's on Cartoon Network. Not Adult Swim, Cartoon Network. Is that something that kids should be watching. I know that they are cartoons but they are practically R rated...

Does anyone else think that this is wrong?

Article

Like Capt. Mal Reynolds stumbling in after a bar fight, the short-lived but much beloved sci-fi series Firefly will soon make an unexpected return, not as a TV show, but as a massively multiplayer online game.

Now that's shiny.

Multiverse, maker of a free MMO-creation platform, plans to announce Friday morning that it's struck a deal with Fox Licensing to turn the show into an MMORPG in the fashion of Star Wars Galaxies or Eve Online.

The "Browncoats," as Firefly's most devoted fans are known, have been campaigning to bring the show back almost since the moment it was canceled in late 2002. Now they'll get their wish, albeit in a new form.

"We see virtual worlds as an extraordinarily promising new entertainment medium," said Adam Kline, Fox Licensing's vice president of media enterprises in an e-mail. "We believe Multiverse can deliver an experience that will remain true to the original series, while enabling a whole new level of personal involvement for fans."

Canceled in the United States after only 11 episodes, Firefly has become the Star Trek of 21st-century sci-fi fandom: a show that seemed to remake the genre even as it stayed faithful to the conventions of "hard" science fiction, like engine room problems and menacing hordes lurking on the edge of known space.

What made the show special was the wry, often self-deprecating humor of its characters, from the captain with the checkered past to the unwittingly sexy engineer, the dull hunk of a mercenary with a girl's name, and the mysterious young woman passenger with special gifts.

The online version will move away from those central characters -- after all, there's only one Mal Reynolds. In an MMORPG, "everybody has to have their own story," says Multiverse co-founder and executive producer Corey Bridges.

"Television series can be really good properties to turn into MMOs, because when you make a TV series, not only do you need great characters, but you need to create a full, rich, compelling place," Bridges says. "If you're doing science fiction, you have to really think it out and create an incredibly rich environment that is compelling in its own right, and worth exploring and going back to week after week. That's what Joss Whedon did with Firefly."

The universe of Firefly and its spinoff film, Serenity, featured everything from Old West-style towns to futuristic urban environments, gritty spaceships and pastoral retreats -- freedom fighters, oppressive government agents, smugglers, outlaws, mercenaries, trader, townsfolk, futuristic geishas and a race of corrupted humans known as the Reavers.

Bringing those environments and character types to life as an online game will be a challenge: Multiverse is not a game developer, but rather a platform provider whose product is still in beta. Instead of making the game itself, the company will hire a development team that will craft the virtual galaxy using Multiverse tools.

"We want to find someone who wants to do something unique and fun and interesting, not just a re-skin of World of Warcraft or Star Wars Galaxies," Bridges says.

Because the underlying technology is already in place, "I feel confident that we'll see something the public can play sometime in 2008," he adds.

Founded by several early Netscape employees, Multiverse hopes to do for virtual worlds what Netscape did for web pages: provide a universal browser that lets users access any world built on the Multiverse platform using the same client software.

Already, some 7,000 development teams have registered for the Multiverse beta, according to Bridges, and more than 150 are making MMOs and non-game virtual worlds on a full-time basis. The tools are provided for free, with Multiverse taking a cut of revenue only if developers charge for their games, or for virtual items available within their worlds.

Landing Firefly on the Multiverse platform would seem to be a sure-fire promotional move. But satisfying the show's committed fans will not be easy. Online communities like FireflyFans.net, the show's premier fan site, have generated an endless stream of fan fiction, art, blogs, pod casts, meet-ups and even a fan-produced documentary, Done the Impossible, which briefly broke into the top 1,000 in DVD sales on Amazon.com.

The announcement comes just in time for this weekend's second annual gathering of Firefly fans at the Hilton hotel in Burbank, California. The "Flanvention" has already sold out, with 500 prepaid attendees signed up.

Bridges shrugs off the pressure; he just wants to make "something worthy of the show," he says. "This all springs from the genius that is Joss Whedon. It's rewarding beyond words to be able to hopefully be a footnote in the history of Firefly."

Alden was becoming infumed by Dessin's impudence, he stood up, pushing his chair back.

"This discussion is over. I will not hand the Marinae faction over to such a small minded man as Jack Dreddin. I am asking you kindly to leave now, before I have to use force."

Marina stood outside of the door to the conferance room, debating whether to go in. One one hand there was his daughter, who had dissapeared from his life hears ago. He couldn't stand to lose her again. But on the other was his commander, who the militaristic father had sworn to obey his every word.

Jeremy stood ashamed, basked by his brother's furious eyes. He was thankfull when the silence was broken by the operator.

"Mr. Nalust, the lines are almost empty enough for us to teleport. There's been alot of activity due to the evacuations, but I've got us a slot, it should be about another five to ten minutes."

Okay, me and Katana were talking about who would play who if this ever got made into a movie (we were bored). This is what we came up with:

Leon: Hugh Jackman

Holly's Dad: Robert Deniro or Harrison Ford

Isha: Gina Torres

Holly: Summer Glau

Josiah: The guy from the hulk, or Matt Damon

She came up with someone good for Edgar, forgot who...

James saluted Francine as she walked away, and set out to find the armory. After a brief search he entered the armory. Pushing past the quickly forming crowd he approached a tall man in a suit with a long black ponytail and bushy sideburns.

"Hey, who's in charge here?"

The man turned around and spoke, a strange kindness in his voice.

"That would be me: Alenthankala Lassosian, chief engineer. But you can call me Al. Can I help you?"

"Yeah, I've got something that could use some repairs. And maybe some...improvements?"

James walked out of Al's personal lab, his regular rifle/pistol arm equipped, his chaingun arm slung across his back, and his other arms back in the case.

"Let's get this show on the road!"

((Sorry about that. I had a bit of a... writer's block))

Alden snapped to attention. It had happened again. Brief blackouts. He wasn't sure what was causing them, but that wasn't important now. How long had he been out? He quickly assessed the situation. Obviously it hadn't been that long: Brad was still in the room, trying to be threatening; Holly had moved to the other end of the room and was being touchy with yet another intruder; Edgar's lackey had taken Holly's place in keeping Brad from leaving; and Eric was in the corner, doing his job.

This was enough, it was time to get this 'negotiation' over with. The shard around his neck began to glow. He held out his right hand and not to gently slid Leon away from the door. He drew his gun in the other and aimed it at Dessin.

"Brad, this is your last chance to leave the Marinae territory once and for all."

Seriously, Michael Richards gets pissed off, and uses a racial slur. Now, in my opinion that doesn't even mean he's racist. I could just mean that he wanted to insult these people that were pissing him off, so he said something that he knew was insulting.

But this guy... he says that the only way to free the black man is to kill all the white people. KILL ALL WHITE PEOPLE. Let me say that again,

HE WANTS TO KILL ALL WHITE PEOPLE!!!

I'm sorry, shouldn't this guy get arrested for like, plotting genocide?

The moment Eric saw the gun in Brad's hand he stood and fired. He was only charged to protect Alden, but Holly was in his company, and her life was being threatened.

The first bullet whizzed past Brad's head and into the hallway. The second two bullets embed themselves in the door, just as Brad backs out, leaving inch wide slugs in the metal. Eric charges and slams his shoulder into the door, easily knocking the metal out of the way.

He slid to a stop at the landing pad and unslung his machine gun, quickly deploying the legs. He began firing, his bullets shattering the protective dome.

When Marina heard the gunshots and smashing metal, he made his decision. He burst into the room just as Alden pushed past him in the opposite direction.

"Commander, where's Holly? What happened, is she safe?"

Alden spun around and stood in-front of Marina.

"No, she isn't safe, but neither is the Marinae nation, now we are working on the problems, so why don't you help by doing your job."

Marina stood speechless as Alden marched away.

Isha stood on the pad as the air around her became cast in blue. She was engulfed in smoke, and then she was gone.

Eric stood behind Alden at the command station.

"I want a jet."

Alden was almost shocked by Eric's verbal brashness.

"You want a what?"

"I want to go after the girl."

"No, your job to protect me. She's long gone and we need your help here."

"No, she is in danger and you are safe here."

And then the nukes went off.

Alden watched the explosion on the computer monitor.

"I'll assume that we're alive. Now would anyone care to tell me why?"

"Quite simple, commander," said a lanky man in a lab coat. He brought up a diagram on one of the monitors. "We basically encased the bombs in small energy shield which contained the nuclear blast."

"Sounds effective. Any side effects?"

"Well we could only get the shields down to a certain size, so there was some damage to the immediate region."

"Such as?"

"Well, we were unable to get the main teleportation hub completely safe..."

"How long until we can fix it?"

"Not until we can clear the radiation from the contained area."

"Fine, send out a message to all networked bases telling them not to use the teleporters."

Moments after Isha disappeared, Jeremy prepared to follow suit, but he was interrupted by the operator,

"Captain Nalust, I've just gotten a message saying that the teleportation hub has been temporarily dismantled, and the teleporters are not to be used."

Jeremy stepped down, thankful for the last minute warning. In the lab tests, the results were always horrific when there was a malfunction during the process. And not having a hub to route the signals could be considered a major malfunction.

"Wait, was this before or after Isha teleported?"
