I've been experimenting with AE for the last few weeks, mostly because I have a task to complete for work, and partly for my entertainment.

I've created two motion tracking experimentation videos. Both on YouTube, but I'm posting the longest one here:

It needs a little bit more work, but the core footage needs to be shot again making sure not to cut off the Star Trek PADD upper screen and not to overwhelm the shot with too much light. I also have to cut the secondary footage to appear more Star Trek-like. But, for something I just threw together in a matter of 30 minutes, I'm proud of myself.

I just posted it, so I'm not sure if it's done rendering on the YouTube servers quite yet.

I'm editing this post because I can, and because I've made a second version to the original video using a longer capture, and a more stable background vid. Now, I just need to add a glare layer to make the smaller vid look like it's actually on the PADD, and add another mask layer to trim it down to the rounded screen shape of the PADD. Other than that, it took about 30 minutes of filming, capturing, editing, and compositing in various programs to produce this.

I did try to follow the little nuances in motion more closely, but wasn't able to catch everything. I'm hoping my next version will be a little better. And, this does help as I plan to make a certain movie adaptation on one of my stories and would need to be able to track motion on one of my props to superimpose an image/vid onto it.

Note: The vid was just uploaded at 12:30AM, so it may not be fully rendered on YouTube's servers if you're on this early in the morning.

That's just in America with the right lower corner. Try BBC Three with its logo in the first quarter of the screen, upper left. You forget its there half the time, but it is there. At least American channels are trying to hide it in the lower right corner. 'Cept for the animated ones. Those are annoying.

According to the blog for this, it took 3000 Euros and 2000 hours to build/program. Truly amazing for Lego.

Yeah, most people don't know what I'm tracking. But, it's the smaller footage placed on top of a non-working Star Trek PADD prop. Here's another version of it, with the video placed within the dividers on the PADD:

It almost looks like the PADD is just suffering on focusing the video in the last one, like motion affects the video on the PADD. In reality, I'm just lazy and don't feel like breaking down each and every tracking point along the 700 frames.

You realize 2000 hours is a little under 3 months, continuous. So, realistically, spread that across a few more months, maybe 6 to 9 months to build. Probably a bit more time for research and development. All in all, I'm assuming it's about less than 1 year to maybe 2 to 3 years. Probably not a lot.

Simple math, though. Just because it's a large number doesn't mean it'll translate to a larger quantitative number. Also, those figures are assuming one person did it.

If this person had help, then the cumulative hours would factor in, and in turn mean less total realistic time than anticipated. For example, on our last company project, we invested close to 100 hours to complete the project. Does that mean it took close to six days? Nope, two days. We just had a team of eight people working overtime at various overlaps across those two days.

Okay, when work would buy boxes of these, I'd horde them. But, I'm not gonna do anything for a Klondike bar anymore. That's like an 80s commercial revisited in the 90s and revisited several times again on this board. Can I shoot someone for a Klondike bar? But, if there's gonna be splatter, I don't wanna.

"Geek Love" (when I find it, haven't lost it Rogue, it's just in my room at mom's house)
"After Effects 7" - gotta learn it.
"2061: Odyssey Three" - rereading the whole series. It's the fourth time. I still don't understand what's going on.
"A Scanner Darkly" by Philip K. Dick - My fun book.

Then, there's working on my novels for the publishing company...

Okay, so it's not what you were expecting, despite the fact that the video watch does exist. If you want to see it, you can find it here: OLED Watch.

However, if you're interested in the little gems you can create with a few hours of work in After Effects:

Well, then technically, they can sue for everything that draws power connected to some kind of port. Which is, practically every kind of peripheral ever...TV cable boxes, USB ports, serial ports, parallel ports, computer joysticks, mice, keyboards, etc.

There's always money for something out there. Now, how do they justify the eligibility and relation to education? Besides the obvious intelligence requirements associated with D&D (I'm not badmouthing it, I like D&D)?

See, by saying "expecting" it implies that you did believe it was there. So, you technically cannot go back on your words, unless you edit your post. I was really helping, just being a little bitch. But, you're welcome.

Oh, and there are never any stupid questions, only terminally stupid and moronic people. You're not one of those.

Dazzle. Look it up. Allows you to connect composite cables to your computer and vice versa.

Now, higher quality: Firewire...if going composite to DV quality.

Higher quality still: S-Video. But, TV's gotta have it too. Or, you can get a SV-to-Composite converter, but it'll downgrade the quality.

But then, my computer has a built-in S-Video port and a built-in Firewire/DV port.

OMG, he lives. Anyway, I decided it'd be awesome to fly down this weekend and finally take care of that paperweight I call Jack, but alas, my plan fell through as my toilet tank has sprung a leak, and the money I did have has been allocated to bills and car payments. Instead, I'll more than likely spend the weekend at home, Berkeley, work, or San Francisco.

And, no Petaluma kids, I'm not coming up to visit you.

I'm not so much a Satanist as I am a practitioner of the dark arts/dark energies. I do/did study the Satanic rituals, among other things, but as far as being active anything...nope.

It's best not to delve too deeply into my situation, however.

On another note, I grew up with a parent (directed at Evo), and I'm still a sociopath. Explain that.

Can I just be labeled as the Thread Killer? I seem to do that every time I post in these things.

Anyway, off-topic on the sociopathy, returning to task at hand....which was, there really was no debate, but more of a statement of the study of Satanism, and then an open ended question.

There was no adhering to a particular view that could be debated, and as such, no real debate.

However...um, lost train of thought. Oh, well, back to work. I'll be in Golden Gate Park on Saturday doing my darkness rituals. If you can sense the black energies, you'll find me.
