*Scratches head* Hi there...I'm not great with intoduction posts, but I figured I might as well make it official that I'm new. My friend, (username KadajRodsusu) showed me the board and I thought this place looked pretty fun. I figure that this would be a great place to get some creative writing exercise also.

So... I guess I'll see you all around.

Name: Richard Daniels
Age: 15
Sex: Male

Occupation: High School Student
Clothing: Jacket; T-Shirt; Cargo pants; Hiking boots; Backpack.
Gun/Weapon: None at beginning of post.
Transport: None.

Bio/Background: Father was an ex-Navy SEAL, and his mother was a scientist working at Curious Medical. Richard's father took him to a shooting range once a week since he was 10. He consider's himself an expert marksman with pistols (Note: He's good, but not an "expert"), and can use a rifle if pressured to do so. When his father told him about his experiences as a SEAL, Richard listed to every word. He was a bit distant to his mother who always seemed to be wrapped up in her work. Richard was home alone when the zombie incident happened.

Other: Brown hair; Green Eyes; Fair complexion; Physically fit; 5'10" tall.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shit.

Richard's parents hadn't called in two days. A sure sign that something bad had happened. He had been glued to the TV set until the satellite dish had been knocked off the roof by some random debris.

This is getting out of control.

After checking the locks on the front door, Richard ran up the stairs to his bedroom. He grabbed his backpack and turned it upside-down, spilling his school books onto the floor. Moving to his dresser, he pulled an extra T-Shirt and a change of socks out of a drawer and stuffed them into his backpack. He grabbed the Ka-Bar fighting knife his cousin had forgot to take with him during his last visit, and attached it to his belt. He pocketed his Zippo lighter as he walked out the door.

Richard moved on to his parent's bedroom. He fumbled with the combination lock on his father's gun cabinet. After finally getting it open, he grabbed his favorite pistol- his dad's old .45 SOCOM.

Plenty of stopping power, he grinned.

Richard looked for the ammo box with the extra .45ACP rounds as he grabbed four preloaded clips. He shoved 3 into his cargo pants pocket and one into the SOCOM, he immediately ejected it. He pulled one more bullet out of the ammo box and loaded it into the clip.

Thirteen shots this time, thanks Dad.

Richard took the stairs three at a time as he headed to the kitchen.

Would be a great to have some MRE's right about now.

He didn't have that luxury, however, so he grimaced as he dropped a box of energy bars and four bottles of water into his backpack. He headed out the door and thumbed the safety off the SOCOM.

OK, Rich, you're armed and supplied for a bit. You need some help getting the hell out of this zombie infested city.

He sighed.

Might as well head to Uncle V's place.

With that thought, he hopped the backyard fence and raced off down the street toward his Uncle's house.

Thanks everyone. Is it a tradition on forums to give the new members miscellaneous items?

It's fun. It would be okay as a pay game, but pretty damn impressive for a free game.

Oh, and a few more notes about it:
-It's kinda RPG-MUD style, with leveling and stuff like that. Buy new outfits and weapons and such.
-Play modes include Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Gladiator style (melee only), and one or two other modes that I can't come up with ATM.
-Those familiar with Gunbound will be used to the game-joining system.

Few bad things about it though... there's only a small number of servers with pretty low population limits, so it can be hard to get on sometimes. The developers at MEIAT are kinda slow at releasing information on their forum as well. When I first got it, a new update had come out the same day (and the gamelauncher auto-update wasn't working), so I had to search about 3 different forums 'till I found a link to the patch.

But don't let that last paragraph discourage you! Give it a shot if you like shooter games.

I haven't heard cases of hacking into other people's computers through the game. But hacking, as in exploiting the game and its code in order to cheat, is more of a problem.

The Beta itself is far from hack-proof (or even hack-resistant) and there are lots of holes that hackers can use to cheat. Aimbots, wallhacks, godmoding, they've all been reported problems in the past, and they haven't exactly fixed it.

I heard one player say that the hacking population was possibly around 5%, which seemed pretty high to me. I haven't run into a hacker yet, so I couldn't say from experience.

In offline RPGs like the Final Fantasies, it's actually... well... fun to level up. MMORPG's just seem to suck the fun out of it for me. In the offline ones, it feels like the game is helping you level up. I mean, you could just play straight through the game and barely have to "grind." There's a certain pacing that seemed to be missing when I played WoW and FFXI.

I'm a shy sort of guy, so I would do a lot of playing solo. MMO's just aren't built for that, it's like the game forces you to join groups. When playing solo: downtime, tough monsters, and relatively little XP for nearly dieing, forces me to sit there for hours on end doing something that isn't fun for me.

I actually thought Gunz was close to what I wanted in an online RPG. In WoW, there's no way a level 12 is going to be a level 20; it just won't happen. In Gunz, a level 12 could get lucky and kill the level 20. Luck and skill are factors. That's the kind of thing that I like in games. How powerful you are should not be measured purely on how long you sat there and killed random things.

Just a few more blocks!

Richard kept scanning the street as he ran. A groan sounded as he passed a porch. He stopped and turned, bringing the .45 up in a two-handed grip. A zombie struggled to it's feet and began walking towards him. It's arms were outstreached in the old-fashion horror movie style. He snickered. How lame can this get?

He aimed for the heart and fired a shot. The zombie recoiled, but much to Richard's surprise (and horror), the monster steadied itself and continued it's cliche march.

Idiot! It's undead it's just going to keep comming.

Richard turned and started running. He glanced over his shoulder to see, to his dissapointment, the fiend speeding up as well.

Zombies... what stops them? This was a medical accident wasn't it? His mind started running through all the zombie movies he watched. How did they move? Magic was one theory... but no, This was science. Science.... how do I move?... Nervous system! No duh Rich. He turned, aimed for the head, and squeazed off a shot. The zombie crumpled to the ground.

Hmph. Bingo.

Richard kept moving. Taking a left at the corner, he spotted his uncle's house. Just then, he began to wonder if his Uncle Vincent had even survived the catastrophe. He hadn't seen anybody but a zombie so far... and he lost contact with his parents days ago.

Comon, think positive Rich. You're alive right? Someone else had to have survived.

He reached his uncle's house and turned the door knob. It was unlocked... probably not a good sign. He readied his pistol, rushed into the room, and made a quick sweep of his surroundings. He breathed a sigh, mixed with relief and disappointment. No zombies, but no sign of his uncle or cousin. Richard sat down on the living room couch and opened a bottle of water.

All right. This exhausts my family contacts, so where can I go now?

He took a sip of water and turned on his uncle's TV.

More static... great. Anyway, where to go?

Richard put the cap back on the water bottle and placed it on the coffee table. He stood up and began rummaging through his uncle's desk for a map of the city. He spread it out on the coffee table and started looking for his current location.

Here we go... I'm here, so what's a good spot to go to? The park? No... too open. The supermarket? Nah, I've got supplies for a while. Hmmm. Wait, what was that?

Richard looked around. A noise had started, and it was growing louder. He picked up the SOCOM pistol and moved to the window. He tried to place the sound. Was it... a car? He hadn't heard a car in a few days... except for the noise they made when they blew up. Just then, a truck rumbled by on the cross-street. He glimpsed two people up front, and another person riding in the back of the pickup bed. Then it was gone, and the noise was growing fainter.

I wonder where they're going...

He turned back to the map. He traced the road with his finger...

It runs right toward the police station!

He checked the distance key in the corner and measured the distance from the house to the station.

Only ten or fifteen minutes to jog there... Richard glanced outside, it was getting dark pretty quick. Ah screw it, I'm going.

He folded the map up and stuck it in his backpack, he took one more sip of water and put it back as well. Turning to the door, he checked the safety on his pistol and took off down the street.

*Knock Knock*

"Who's there?"

"Little Boy Blue."

"Little Boy Blue Who?"

"Michael Jackson."

My piano teacher told me that one. She's a Michael Jackson fan, but she loves jokes about him. For a second, I actually thought she was doing the comedian's thing (Lewis Black btw) but then I actually said it out loud...

Step 1: Fill the 5 gallon bucket.

Step 2: Fill the 3 gallon bucket with the water from the 5 gallon bucket.

Step 3: Dump the water out of the 3 gallon bucket and pour the remaining water from the 5 gallon bucket into the 3 gallon bucket.

---There is now 2 gallons in the 3 gallon bucket---

Step 4: Refill the 5 gallon bucket.

Step 5: Fill the 3 gallon bucket with the water from the 5 gallon bucket.

---The 5 gallon bucket now contains 4 gallons of water---

WoW is a cool game. I didn't quit because I thought it sucked.

This was my 5 month experience with World of Warcraft:
-Pick a class.
-Have fun leveling up and learning new spells or abilities.
-Start having large downtime between battles.
-Stop having fun leveling up and learning new spells or abilities.
-Repeat 12 times.

The lower levels (1-22 to be specific) were the ones I played. I played every class you could select. It was painfully dull. The aspects of the game that I think are fun are accessible at levels 1-5(which might be as long as 2-4 hours before you leveled past that) and 40-60(which could be fun for weeks). I just couldn't bring myself to continue to pay 15 dollars a month to have the prospect of fun dangled in front of my nose. I'm not going to pay someone to have me waste 4 hours a day in front of my computer (not having fun) in order to have fun in the future. I will pay someone to have me waste 4 hours a day in front of my computer having fun.

I just posted that because that's the only sure way to know that you have an exact amount. Otherwise, the best you could do is "eyeball" the one gallon you pour out.

"Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open manhole and die."-Mell Brooks.

When I was younger I used to go to a theater camp each summer. First year I was there, we were preforming "The Wizard of Oz." I actually got a line my first time . When the Good Witch inquires Dorothy's name, I would call out a "throw away" joke that was something I was supposed to have noticed from the house. Originally I was suppose to say "RSD2" in reference to the house number or something [never quite understood that], but later the script was changed to "Argus Courier" [a reference to a local newspaper who's name appears on a special mailbox]. So I do the dress rehersal (which was taped *whew*) and the first preformance with no problem.

At the second preformance, I blow my line for the first and only time the entire summer. I call out "HER NAME'S 'RSD2!' ". Then all of the other actors just kinda turn and look at the bush I'm behind [half because I blew my line, and half because it had never happened before]. Then the Good Witch continues with "Oh, you're names 'Argus Courier' is it?" Which cause the audience stirs with an implied "Wait, what?"

So they ribbed me good naturedly about it before I said it at the final preformance. Still, I was really embarrassed when that happened.

And even though I'm really...really doubtful, I'm actually going to give FFXI another shot. Even though it's going to take me like 3 days to download all the updates. But I'm honestly going to give it two weeks, and if I'm not having fun, I'm quitting immediately. Because like I said in the WoW skill or no skill thing, I'm not going to pay to not have fun.

Yes...you read right. Giving it another shot.

The FFXI Servers are under a massive DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack at the moment. A new update was released today for the Chains of Promethia expansion; so that might have something to do with it.

I'm 98% positive that they're on separate tracks like the above posters said. But just for fun, I calculated that it would take 8 minutes to collide if they started 20 miles apart...I think.
