| number one: leave the guy on acid alone...if you ruin the trip it could freak him out and give him the worst nightmare he has ever had.
number two: smoking marijuana is generally more heathsome than cigarettes but mainly because due to its four hour active period the smoking itself happens less often than most cigarette users smoke. |

| John woke up, and tapped the alarm, the car would be waiting at the curb in ten minutes. Then he felt around on his table for his clothes that were laid out, sat on his bed and put them on, keeping one hand on the bed side to steady himself. His foot padded around under his bed kicking out the hard soled shoes he always wore (the tapping sound they made on the pavement or hardwood floors helped him "hear" where walls and such were so he didnt have to rely on his cane as much). After locating his wallet, keys, cane, cigarettes and lighter he walked the 8 steps across the room to the shelf with his modified laptop, in its case. The laptop was a gift from his parents....it wasnt very powerful but he could hook it up to an optics and sensor array and the information would be filtered by a program he wrote into a tonal "language" he devised ( a certain tone for "tree, green, ficus" for instance and the volume of that tone would tell him how close the green ficus tree was to him and the pitch would tell him in what direction etc) ...it still needed alot of work, as it was kind of buggy and he didnt use it that often but with it he could identify people and items at a distance and it helped him feel "normal"...it might be appropriate to bring with him today but at least the case had the next two of the fantasy series he had been reading lately...it was such a bitch to find them in braille. Two steps from here to the door...thirteen down the hallway...
They must just want to have him report, it would be ridiculous for him to be tested, so it must be some kind of formality. Perhaps his father had arranged for him to recieve a desk job or secretarial work ... sixteen steps across the sitting room ....i hear dads breathing in the den, long and shallow...he must have fallen alseep at the computer again...one last step to the door and i hear the car i ordered last night pull up... |

| as John sauntered up to the recruitment office gate, the single earbud hooked up to the microcomputer scanner array pinging out of his pocket was was wispering in his ear. it sang to him that the complex he was approaching was (measurement) in diameter, and he was approaching the entrance. The strains of the staccato violin (the aural manifestation of the lifescan array) told him there were five people standing twenty three steps away from him by the gate, which the faint synth drum quartet's beat (chemical scan) told him was composed largely of the element boron. The energy readings sang to him in a peircing soprano that two of the people were clearly shards and three quiet tenors indicated that the others were humans of shard stock...recruits like himself...well probably not "defective" like himself . the symphony went on, enumerating various aspects about his surrounding in exacting detail (one of them was wearing earbuds that werent powered on, another had a laptop in a backpack, also not powered on, the two in front were loaded with personal miltary issue electronics etc.)...all except color...he didnt like to be reminded of color. His hand was in his jacket pocket, his index finger between the pages of his book "reading" the braille therin.
the group assembled smelled respectivly of teenage boy, leather, and ceramic...the female shard smelled of blueberry soap. " i am here to report for duty" he said supressing a wry grin his finger turned the page and kept reading |

| John expected as much. The five years of physical and tactical (not tactics though) training the other shards recieved was pretty much lost on John....he could do calculus in his head while playing a violin solo, while "reading" one of his braille novels with his toe, while carriying on a semi coherent conversation about pancake mix ,all the while, listening and comprehending all the many many many things his sensors were playing in his head....and smoking. But he still couldnt see, so tripping over a cat and breaking his skull open is still a very real problem in a tactical situation......with cats...insofar as his sonar was now so powerful he could no longer order everything spatialy, except far away. Information Officer....go figure

*john sighs and opens his case....feeling inside....and is suddenly suprised at the electrical output it immediatly started reading on his "vision" upon its opening* "merry christmas me! a powerful computer!" * very powerful indeed....more powerful than any he had access to previously...very nice... his long, emaciated hands played over the sensor pads, patching into the securty system in a matter of pulses of his mind* "i am going to play the surveilance footage on the conference screen each in their own window" *punches it in now...as he plugs his own audio system into the sensor arrays of the respectives sectors* |

| ah race...one of the more arbitrary concepts anyone ever argued about, about as arbitrary as when we argue about imaginary lines in the dirt (countries, borders) or when we argue over which invisible man in the sky has a bigger dick... utterly pointless
"hey that guy is somewhat more/less brown (or 'he lives on another piece of dirt') than me...clearly he is here to steal my job and fuck my daughter!" this is merely another example of another way (albiet one of the more dumb ways) humans alleviate the boredom of existance, make them self feel important, and generally get through the day. some people collect decorative hats, the others become racists and spend their time prancing around in white cloaks or invading tutsi land and massacring men women and children. one black man makes a website about killing white people 5000 black men made websites about fucking white people....somehow this gives me hope for mankind |
