I guess I'm late, then. I'd forgotten was Pancake Day. I just got done eating a triple-berry muffin "cake". So I think that will take it's place.

Heh, I think too many of you have Xboxs. We could use more PS3s here. Being laidback and having fun can work out, but we might end up being competitive in the end. Especially if we want people to take notice of us and join our board. Maybe you guys have heard of Gambattles.com. It's a competitive gaming site where clans play against each other and gain ranks on ladders. There are a few other sites like that, but game battles is the one I go to. It's run by MLG (Major League Gaming), which is a big organization. So big infact that ESPN covered one of the competitions. Anyway, maybe we could have everybody register there and compete against other people. If we get high on the ladder people will see us and check out the site. Most of them may not join, but at least they visit and maybe put a few words in to other people.

Just as you guys say, Mario is the most popular. Mario was brought into a world where video games were on the rise. Just like a company expands itself after doing so well for a while, Mario has been put into several games since the first. Atari wasn't so popular back in the day. Infact, the video games industry back then was on the verge disappearing for a while. It woudn't have made a difference if a dozen Pac Man games were created. Because Nintendo is a strong franchise Mario has had a strong position in the gaming industry.

I just saw this in the paper a little bit ago. The person was an ex-student at the school, and I know the police don't have a motive, but it's likely he did this for revenge of some sort more so than being influenced by video games, or a cheap thrill. It seems shootings these days are becoming so trendy that people are easily going along with it as a means of revenge or anger release. It's sort of like a, "if they can do it, it should be easy enough for me to do it" mentality, needing little courage to go through with such a plan. No one yet knows why he did it, and it is bad enough that people were killed, but if those who died were simply random people who didn't even know the guy existed that would be a really horrible thing. It's different when somebody is getting revenge on you, but to be walking down hall, talking to a friend and get shot out of nowhere is beyond murder to me. Still, people like that don't give a damn of the concept that they'll stop a person from living. They're not only taking a life, they're taking away the person's dreams, memories, their happiness, plans for the future. Even something as simple as an ambition to go see a certain movie in a few days. These kids are going to be our leaders in the future. Those things will no longer happen to those students now. And I don't need to mention how it affects the lives of others. How would even we as a community feel if a well-known member here at Xeogaming was a victim of a school shooting?

I can't really say who's job it is to look over the well-being of the emotions of students at school- the counselors or the parents. Problems that arise may not have anything to do what goes on at home. Then again the school may not be a source of rage either. I would also like to say friends should look after one another and provide support in stressful times, but I get the feeling that shooters have very few friends, if any at all. You would almost have to be a loner to kill and take your own life. I don't see how somebody with friends who care could go through with such a thing.

Nevermind that the media only found out the shooters' name this morning, and the slowly-emerging details of his life (serious academic, sociology student with no criminal record) don't jibe with the "traditional" media-crazed gunman stereotype, Thompson has apparently already decided the killer is a gamer and his hobby caused the rampage.

the damage to the reputation of gamers is only a small consideration compared to the immense disrespect done to the victims families when news outlets let Thompson use death as a means of making cheap (and very, very stupid) political points.

What a douche. If that's really his goal he'd be a real moron. I hope this guy isn't dumb enough to make something up about the tragedy and use it for political gain. But since we're on the subject, I think I'd like to make up a fact about ol' Thompson here and say that he hates games because back in the day some gamer nerd stole his girl and got laid when he couldn't get any from her.

That works, too.

A guy named Neubian who commented on a video of the shooting on Break.com made a good comment:

"this stuff keeps on happening, and no one seems to want to talk about the elephant in the middle of the room:
Where does this keep happening???? In the places that federal law prohibits guns!!!! You can't do this in any state at the supermarket, because someone will pull out their own gun and blow your brains out. But at the elite institutions of higher learning, fire away bad guys. We'll use our superior attitudes to defend ourselves -- working great so far . . ."

I see it now. So you're playing with semi-chibi characters in that game. I like all the crossovers of different series. How many characters are in it? I could name a couple I'd like to see that are from unpopular games. KOS-MOS is this and she's that other game that "somethingXCapcom game, never released in the US.

Posted on 02-20-08 02:45 PM, in Hey.... Post your suggestions about new features, here! Link
I think having the shop back would be fun. I like the idea of buying weapons with money you earn from posting. It made boarding feel like a game. I would suggest we do something about the items though. All the weapons and armor that are weak and cheap almost never get bought. I don't see a reason to have them in the shop when everybody strives for the most powerful things instead because nobody wants to waste their money on something that isn't all that great. We could come up with different ways to fix this, though, such as having less of the weaker items and creating other powerful ones that cost about the same as each other and are all at a fixed.

Or, something that would be very ideal, instead of getting back only half the money for selling something, code the shop so that someone gets a full refund. That way people will be more inclined to buy the cheapo items, and when they've gained enough money again they can sell that "sword" and go for the next one in line. This will be effective if we ever do implement a battle system here, because people aren't going to be stingy and not participate until they have the best of the best equipment to fight. Rather, they would be willing to fight with what they have, knowing they can get all their money back to buy something more powerful and much faster for the very next match. Honestly, the full refund idea would work great, and I believe the members here will love it. Picture yourself buying items. How would you feel about buying a sword for 100,000, knowing that if you sell it you get all that gold back? Not 25,000. Not 50,000. But the full 100,000 gold.

If we ever do bring the shop back and there is a way to change the coding to alter the sell amount, which I'm sure there is, it would be a very great thing to do.

Posted on 02-24-08 03:51 PM, in Twenty Things You Didn't Know.... About Mosquitos Link
This was taken from a Discovery magazine, word for word. It's 20 facts about mosquitos, some you may already know, most you probably don't. I'm a huge fan of science and thought to share some info and discoveries with you all. So I want to make these every once in a while. I do have several Discovery magazines, but don't worry, I won't be spamming the board with these threads. I also did this at Glowsticking.com, another board I go to.

20 Things You didn't know...

About Mosquitos
----------------------------------------

1. The worlds largest statue of a mosquito is a roadside attraction in Komarno, Manitoba, the Mosquito Capital of Canada. ("Komarno" is Ukranian for "mosquito". What's up with that?) Sculpted in 1984, it is made of steel and has a wingspan of 15 feet. It's also a weather vane, swiveling in the wind.

2. There are more than 2500 varieties of mosquito (some entomologists claim 3000) whinging from the Arctic tundra to the tropical rain forests. Most are active at dawn and dusk, while others enjoy midday feeding. Protein is where you find it.

3. In 1998, researchers found a new mosquito species in the London Underground, descended from ancestors that flew in when the tunnels were dug 100 years ago. Once bird-feeders, they now feast on a menu of rats, mice and people.

4. They rarely interbreed with their aboveground colleagues. Their DNA actually varies from one subway line to another.

5. Mosquitos do not bite, they suck.

6. It would take 1,200,000 mosquitos, each sucking once, to completely drain the average human of blood.

7. Which seems unlikely, but then again in the Arctic, Canadian researchers who bared their arm, legs and torsos reported as many as 9,000 bites per minute from swarming, newly hatched mosquitos. At that rate, an individual could lose half his blood in two hours.

8. Once a feeding mosquito is full, a chemical signal shuts down the intake. When that signal is disabled in the lab, mosquitos suck until they explode.

9. It's hard to get upset about that.

10. According to a University of Bristol study, male mosquito "ears" are packed with about as many sensory cells as human ears, helping amourous mosquito males identify and pursue passing females.

11. When a mosquito detect the whine of the opposite sex, it begins to synchronize its own pitch to match that of the potential mate. Randy males can "relate" to girl frequencies in a second or two. Females take several times longer to synchronize. This is the same with humans in a bar.

12. Mosquitoes can mate in midair, often in as little as 15 seconds from approach to fare-thee-well. There are no known instances of prior cocktails and dinner.

13. Male Mosquitoes are actually sensitive vegetarians, living on nectar and plant juices. Only females drink blood, for protein to make eggs.

14. Millions of years ago, mosquitoes were three times as large as they are today.

15. Eyes occupy most of the surface of a mosquito's head. Not eyes into which one might wish lovingly to peer, these compound-lensed organs deliver infrared images of heat patterns emanating from a body. Like the alien in Predator.

16. Mosquitoes also use your exhaled breath to track you down, especially when you sleep or have been exercising. Fortunately, they clock out at only 1.5 mph- so you can't hide, but you can run. Unless you're on a treadmill. Then they'll get you.

17. Central America's so-called Mosquito Coast (a thin strip of land along the Caribbean in Honduras and Nicaragua) is named for the insect but after a mispronunciation of the indigenous Miskito Indians.

18. Abuja, Nigeria is home to the world's biggest mosquito net, unveiled in 2000 as part of a national campaign against malaria and other insect-borne diseases. Two hundred children fit under it.

19. Millions fo people alive today will die of a mosquito-transmitted disease. Malaria alone claims some 1,00,000 lives a year in Africa. Other top killers include dengue, yellow fever and West Nile virus.

20. But they won't die of AIDS. HIV-infected humans actually have very few virus particles in their bloodstream, and should a mosquito suck one up, it gets killed by the mosquito's digestive system.

-------------------------------

So what do you think? Would you like to see more of these in the future? Any discussions?

They are locacted in your blood stream. I think the majority of the virus are found inside cells, meaning very few loose particles roam around.

I'm surprised to see that "300" wasn't the winner of cinematography. I've seen "There Will Be Blood" and it didn't look like there was anything special to me as far as visuals in that movie. I guess I'm confused as to what people look for in that category. "300" was nothing but visuals. But your right, I don't think many people have seen a few of the movies listed. I haven't even heard of some of them.
