Originally posted by Xeoman Honestly, envious. I think because of the fact that people in my life outside of work blow me off so much, I've clung onto work friendships much more than I used to. We're freaking making all these plans to do stuff together. I didn't used to be friends with anyone, outside of a couple guys who are now gone. It was delightful not being dragged into the drama. Nowadays, I'm in the thick of it. Not sure what I did to some of the back-stabbers to make them so shitty toward me, but then again, I think it's just the fact that I socialize with people they hate. I dunno. It's just that we spend 7.5 hours there a day, 37.5 hours a week. More time than I see my family sometimes. |

Well, if you discovered faith in a higher being, good on you, sir.
Fact: I can't help but find it interesting how many people are getting taken down for accusations of sexual misconduct, and who's coming forward to defend them, their behavior, to victim-blame, etc. |

It honestly sucks that Christmas fell on a Monday this year. The idea of having to go back to work on Tuesday and there's no time to run out of town to see family afterward since we only got Christmas day off.
I make a point in staying with my parents Christmas day, of all holidays. The one time I didn't, I was DEEPLY regretful of it. If we do "Christmas" with Brandon's family, it's AFTER the holiday. On top of that, Brandon's pretty much working every day since the civic auditorium he works at is constantly booked for holiday shows for the schools and community groups. At least we also get New Year's Day. Also a Monday. Ugh... |

We're going through freezing mornings that burn off into hot days.
So many of my clients are coming in wearing sweatshirts as their shirt with a jacket on top. I can get them to shed the jacket, but they're stuck with the sweatshirt and it's freaking scorching out. |

I still have yet to ever really watch "Curb Your Enthusiasm." It'll probably be a while since I ended up cancelling my HBO subscription recently.
Finished "Future Man" on Hulu. Eh... It was... not good. We're also watching "Runaways," which I loved the original comics for, but this show is just not doing them justice. I'm only a few episodes from the end of "Community." Sadness. |

It happened again last night. A couple co-workers and I planned for a week to go look at Christmas lights in this neighborhood in Long Beach at 6.
Brandon and I figured if they flake we could still just hang out together and see them anyway. On the way there, Coworker 1 messages to say she just got home and that she'll be ready to go in a second and she'll meet us there. Coworker 2 then messages to say he might not be able to make it, that he has to drive his mom somewhere. But, hey, he's up for hanging out after! I message Coworker 1 that 2 probably won't make it. She says, "Oh well," and though I give her an out if she doesn't want to go anymore still says she's coming. More than a half hour passes and she messages to say she's been busy DYING HER HAIR. If we need to go eat or something, go do it. Another half hour passes and she messages to say that since she's taking so long she'll just go with us another time. I tell her if Coworker 2 calls to still hang out, I'll let her know. Brandon and I had already been out walking and looking at the lights and once we were done, we sat on a bench talking until about 8 when we figured no one else was coming and finally just got up and headed home. Since this is the same couple of coworkers that I had the "birthday plans" with a few posts ago, I'm pretty well done planning anything with them. |

Originally posted by Xeoman I'm sure she was actually doing it. It's just ... really? We said to meet at 6, after work. I know she said she wanted to go home and change and all, but I was blown away when she messaged that she'd started dying her hair. That's a matter of washing it, mixing the dye, applying the dye, letting it process for AT LEAST 30 minutes, then rinsing it, drying it, styling it ... I can say this just rolls off me (and since Brandon and I were almost certain they'd flake, we just went about the night not expecting to see them), but it still bothered me on some level. I don't want to go back to being completely anti-social at work. Being introverted, I feel like I've been staring at the rest of the world through a fogged up window. I want to be included, but I massively fear other people's rejection and so I don't put myself out there because I don't want to get hurt. I don't really know how to interact with normal people, and I don't know how to just make friends like everyone else around me seems to. |

Originally posted by Xeoman I haven't yet, but honestly ... I don't think I've even actually seen the original "Bladerunner" all the way through. I know I should get on that. Saw "Coco" twice in theaters this week. For me, it's perfect. Took my mom to see it the second time, and she loved it. |

I don't say it enough, but I really appreciate this place, Xeo, and I love that you keep it around.
Whenever I have a problem or want to vent about something I just feel like social media's too public a place. There's too many people who know me personally that I don't want to see me unload emotionally. Too much shit to hide there. I can be myself here. |

Well, have gone to see the lights in a few places. I'm sick now. Not sure if I'm going out this weekend at all.
Bought and wrapped my presents for my clients. Each activities coordinator buys gifts for six clients and I went ahead and knocked that out yesterday. A couple co-workers and I had a mini-wrapping party. |

I saw "The Last Jedi" this morning. Yes, I truly enjoyed it.
Spoiler: Since I 'ship Rey and Kylo Ren, I'm probably happier with it than others. |

Seems if you're deeply in love with the originals, this might be too much of a break from them for you. I've noticed that Generation X'ers HATE it, while Millennials are mostly loving it.
For the record, I wasn't a fan of "Rogue One" either, though I did dig "Force Awakens." |

Hope you've been feeling better, Xeo.
I've had a cold for a couple weeks now, though it's only been attacking my nose and throat. Every morning is shitty. On top of that I've been having troubles with eating. I feel like I'll get done eating a reasonable-sized meal and then feel overly stuffed and like I'm either going throw up or I'm in serious pain. Just yesterday I ate a grilled cheese sandwich and then immediately had acid reflux for most of the day and coughed up stomach acid in the bathroom sink. I'm hoping this isn't more than my (doctor suspected but not tested for) hiatal hernia acting up. |

I'm also seeing that most of the people who hate it are fanboys pissed that it didn't fit in that predictable mold that they so wanted (and got with "Force Awakens" but still heavily bitched about it.) They've been calling it a dumpster fire and other such things, but haven't actually explained WHY they hate it.
I HAVE, however, seen some men thoroughly pissed because there's so many women in power in it. They'd probably prefer the only women in it were submissive slave girls and let the action figure-able boys run the show. Anyway, I do encourage you to see it and form your own opinion. |

This is PRETTY MUCH how I feel about Marvel movies. Ever since Disney bought them, I've mostly disliked everything that's come out, save the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" and maybe "Ant Man." I'm not a fan of Joss Whedon at all, and it's like they tried to capture his ridiculous snarkiness with EVERY MOVIE now.
Christ do I hate what they're doing with my beloved "Runaways." I've been pulling for DC out of spite these days. Ugh... It all just makes me concerned for whatever will happen with the X-Men and Deadpool now that Disney's essentially acquired them. |

I'm not out to defend what others have deemed flaws or tell people that it's the greatest movie ever (I've already conceded that "Coco" was the superior film in terms of story, etc), but I'll just throw some insight onto why I dig it so hard.
Originally posted by Elara We've become spoiled by the slowburn, intricate development we get with TV these days. Relationships and sexual tension builds over the course of seasons. Still, there's people pissed that they didn't kiss or do more. Can't please everyone? Originally posted by Xeoman As for the quick passage of time for things to develop, let's explore that, shall we? Luke Skywalker finds Ben Kenobi in the desert. Ben -- revealing that he's Obi-Wan -- tells Luke about the Force. Cut to a few scenes later when Luke's practicing against the remote with the Legacy saber and Han's cracking wise. Luke gets indignant and says, "You don't believe in the Force, do you?" The kid literally went from 0 to devoutly religious in a matter of hours. He jumped into it with all his heart. If you read enough of the scripts, novelizations, and hell even the descriptions on several of the toys from TFA, they all to some degree hint that Rey and Ben/Kylo are "mysteriously connected." Though she's had some Force sensitivity, it wasn't until the interrogation scene that her power "awakened." Was Kylo the catalyst? Who's to say? Prior to the release, Rian Johnson was tweeting pictures of red thread. This was taken to mean the Red Thread of Fate, a Chinese belief that the gods tie a red string between two people who are destined to be together to help one another through something and ultimately become lovers. Rey and Ben are yin and yang. Not perfectly white or black. Both are conflicted and prone to anger and benevolence. With both of them, there is BALANCE. Believe me, I see TOOOOONS of critical flaws in their relationship, but we're also in a world where space magic exists. |

I have Prime. Hm, might give it a shot finally, though a lot of the HBO content is also subscription-based where I've got to pay more to watch it through Prime.
Finished "Community." Man, did that ever stagger to the finish line. Well, there's always the golden years on that show. "Runaways" is just... shit. I'm honestly mad at myself whenever the episode finished because I apparently keep holding out hope that it's going to get better. Maaaaaaaybe when it finally aligns with the books in a few seasons (based on how goddamn slowly this is going with all these original content they're bullshitting us with), but I honestly cannot see this going past this season. Goddamn it, Marvel. After that I'm still watching "Vikings," but I'm worried for Lagertha and most of the other characters are completely un-likeable to carry the show for me if she gets taken out. Finally started "Legion." Since he's a super powerful mutant with mental illness and it's all from his perspective, it's all over the place. Need to rewatch the second episode since I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have. Really can't just have it on as background noise. |

I had a very good day at work yesterday.
My three new coworkers (people who literally started over the past month) surprised me by giving me a "Last Jedi" Kylo Ren shirt and since they had worn Star Wars shirts that day, they wanted me to put it on so we could all match. Not kidding how incredibly happy this made me. |

Christmas, itself, was fairly anticlimactic. We had some family over, and they left pretty early.
Bran and I went to look at the lights all over the place, and saw ISC's production of "A Christmas Carol" which came with flaming punch. Work was pretty drama-filled, but at least our boss let us drink for the afterhours party. So I brought in the good shit: Broguiere's egg nog and VSOP brandy. For the white elephant I put $30 worth of Fandango gift cards with a big bag of mint M&Ms in a hat and wrapped it in a whole roll of toilet paper. I got a heart-shaped ashtray. Apparently lots of people were pissed off for me. We had plans to go to an Ugly Sweater party, but that got sidelined due to Brandon's work going way over time. Did Ugly sweater at work, but only a few people did it too. Essentially my brief holiday break was spent watching "Star Wars" again and again and for a tiny bit saw some cousins, an uncle, and my grandpa. |

Originally posted by Xeoman As a Trekker, I completely agree. We'd always felt he was only doing Trek as an audition for Star Wars. We can only hope he's learned from the errors he made with "Into Darkness." Still, at least the Trek movies are only meant to be an alternate universe, not canon. I'm just glad the guy who did "Jurassic World" has been fired off Episode IX. |
