Usually it's if ever I post something like, "Hey, I stand a really good chance of getting the managing editor position" or "My friend and I are talking about going on a big trip together." Almost, invariably, these things fall through, especially if it trying to make plans with certain friends.
Fact: I haven't been able to see the floor in my room for at least a year. |

Today, I had a client who had a Coke explode in her bag. She's quite the hoarder. As I was going through her bag, cleaning soda off the many things in there like a portable DVD player, Walkman, CDs, notebooks, coin purses, etc, I found a cinnamon roll covered in ants.
She lost her mind when I kept telling her we had to leave her bag outside. |

Originally posted by Rogue in that thread from 2005 Oh, Rogue. You silly bitch. What are we calling our birthplace again? Our first message board? Really difficult to say, on my end. I don't have much of a memory for the places I was visiting in middle school, when I finally got dial-up internet... through America Online. again. |

Screw it. BUMP!
Current Obsessions: - My love for Shakespeare re-awakened with a vengeance, specifically "Much Ado About Nothing," which has been my favorite play for nearly 20 years. I keep reading and re-reading people's chapters, essays, critiques, and so on for it. I guess it also helps that two of the Shakespeare groups I go see every year are performing it this summer. I've also been really into this webseries coming out of New Zealand, loosely based on it. - Icelandic sagas. Got really into reading them last year, and finally read The Volsung Saga some years back. - TEA!! I've been really into loose leaf tea. I've got so friggin' many bags of it from different places right now. I like ones I can just pour some cream in and enjoy the vanilla, almond, rose, etc flavors. I've also become very into high tea these days. Really bummed this one place I love has closed up shop. - Whole Foods. For some reason I've just been REALLY into just going and hanging out at the one by my work, even on the weekends. They have the best cookies. Sure, it's $5 for three of them, but they are amazing. - Fallout. Well, I've been obsessed with it for a while, but with the announcement of 4 coming out later this year, I'm massively excited. "Mad Max: Fury Road" has been stoking that flame too. Been playing "Fallout Shelter," but I've had to scrap two vaults now because of freakishly overpowering radroach infestations. - Listening to NPR. Not only am I listening on my way to and from work, Brandon and I seem to spend most of our weekend days riding around with the dial turned to KPCC. We love a lot of their shows, but on top of this, most of the books I've been reading lately have been ones they've recommended. - Finding the perfect ramen. We've already got a favorite place, but we're constantly wanting to try new places. We don't care that it's hot, we want RAMEN!! - Indie graphic novels. I've always been into them, but it seems like I've been almost exclusively reading independents these days. Just finished "The Divine" and before that "Fun Home" and before that Will Eisner's "Last Day in Vietnam" and before that, "Nimona." |

Like how if someone picked up the phone, it punted you and you had to wait for them to hang up? Christ.
I guess my first real community that I was a part of online was a Ghostbusters fan group that was started by my now deceased friend, Doreen. I was 13 and writing "Extreme Ghostbusters" fan fiction and talking about it in such depth with people much older. I was also frequenting AOL chatrooms and talking all sorts of random film trivia, while of course arguing with people in the rooms until the other person eventually left. Then there were all the random IM conversations we all carried on with strangers that often got pretty adult fairly quickly. |

Yep. And my boss too, who practically had to physically restrain her since she was so determined to have her bag with her.
And this isn't even the craziest interaction I've had with clients this week. At least I wasn't in the walking club on Tuesday when one of their clients broke the mechanic's front window down the street. I did end up watching one of the clients going berserk and trying to flip a table while screaming at everyone, though, on Monday. Thank god it's almost the weekend. |

I work at an activities center for developmentally disabled adults. Our clients have autism, Down's syndrome, intellectual disabilities, and many other conditions that make it difficult for them to be independent, so they come to our center to have a place to socialize and learn. Some of them have somewhat severe psychosis, displaying aggressive behaviors, that we just have to work with when they flare up.
The one I mentioned in the previous comment, trying to flip a table, constantly attempts to elope (our word for "escape" or "run away"), and usually he tries to run into traffic. He has done this many times, several after he's declared that he hates his life. |

It was insufferably hot this weekend. My shoes' soles melted walking from Union Station to Little Tokyo to meet a friend. There were people lion dancing in Olvera Street in 104 degree heat.
And now they're talking about THE BLOB, this heated water coming from the Pacific Northwest, might block EL NINO from coming in and dumping rain on us this winter. EL Nino wasn't really pegged as a drought-breaker, but it would have helped us in SoCal. NorCal still needs snow to make drinking water. |

Got stuck in a time LOOP, just like in that Bill Murray movie. You know, "Ghostbusters."

Aww. Sorry, Elara.
Fact: I'm massively introverted, but open up the moment just about anyone wants to talk to me. I think the crazies, drunks, and over-sharers of the world have picked up on this since they all seem to gravitate toward me to tell me their life story as I'm sitting on the train or by myself somewhere. |

Not ashamed to admit I got a craving for canned ravioli. Bought a giant can of Chef Boyardee and heated it up for dinner. No regrets.

Oh yes, I remember those days. Maybe not quite so fondly, but I do remember them.
Does anyone even ask "A/S/L?" any more in any capacity? That's sort of like wondering who's still using a phone book or floppy discs. |

Great stuff, Elara! Happy to hear there are things making you so.
Happy my boss just approved Irma and me for an all-day trip. It'll be a first for both of us. Happy I've got a paid holiday coming up in a couple weeks, and that the all-day trip coincides with it. Happy I went to Universal Studios over the weekend, invited by friends who got free tickets from their work. The pleasure was more in being with friends, since the park is not all that great, itself. At least, not until the Harry Potter portion opens. They had a store dedicated to the merch they're going to be selling in it. Most things are $30+. No wonder they were sending Whimsic Alley cease-and-desist orders. They were making better quality stuff and selling it for cheaper. Happy I bought a Japanese peace lily for my room. |

You know all those times you've picked up the phone when it rang and there wasn't an answer for 10-20 seconds?
Those are a way to see which numbers potential thieves auto-dial will get a live person to answer so they know who to bomb with scams to get their bank/credit/social security information. Supposedly if you call them back from a different phone number, you'll get a message saying the number is out of service. |

More money woes.
Someone stole my debit card info and made a bunch of fraudulent purchases. They bought $180 worth of Playstation games before my bank froze the account. Fuck whoever did it, just for the fact that it inconvenienced me for a few days and I had to wait for a new ATM card. |

I'll admit it can be taxing, but similarly rewarding. All my work troubles tend to be more from co-workers being shitty than from dealing with the clients.
In other news I finally bought another couple pairs of pants. Woo. |
