| Amusingly, I've never really had trouble in other countries for being American. Matter of fact, in all of the Mediterranean places I went they were quite welcoming, most especially the Egyptians and the Turkish (the two Muslim countries).
Other people I was traveling with did have trouble, though, while we were in England and France. But we were there when we had just invaded Iraq and the English and French were really unhappy with Bush. I notice people respond well if you just act respectful and don't be a stereotypical American asshole tourist who shouts English slowly at them and demands things. There's no trying to blend in in places like Turkey. They know you're not from there, and they don't act like you're a foreign piece of shit either. |

I didn't know about these girls until today, and I'm very intrigued by them.

They have two heads, two hearts, two sets of lungs, and are pretty much one body. I don't mean to sound ignorant, but I was surprised how normal they were. They're just two typical teenaged girls with their own personality quirks, annoyances, and hopes and dreams. They're pretty damn cool.

My e-mail was hacked again, sending spam everywhere and AOL locked me out of my account until I'm able to call some help line that opens at 8 in the morning, Eastern Time. 
Not sure how it happened this time. Last time I'd logged into it at the library, which I'm sure wasn't up to date on its firewalls and anti-virus protection. Ah fuck. That's it. I'm done with you, AOL.

I guess one could argue that it was when I got my job at Kaiser Permanente. Went through a 2-month long program where they put us through job interviewing seminars, spent weeks talking about the HMO and its medical departments, race relations training, CPR training, interviewing and speech training, bought us a business suit, and THEN interviewed us for prospective jobs.

I was one of 10 in the program who then did a paid, summer internship. They hired out for the other 20 interns. A cat licks your face. What's your reaction?

I'm Christine, Southern California born and raised. To steal a joke from Steve Byrne, "I'm half Caucasian, half Asian, which makes me.. Caucasian." My mom came to this country from the Philippines (which I have never visited), and my dad was born in Downey. He's a combination of Italian and English, and through him and his mother, I'm descended from Stephen Hopkins. I have a BA with two majors, in journalism and in American studies, from Cal State Fullerton. Before that I went to Long Beach City College with other board members like Elara, Stitch, WhiteRose, and GuardianOni. I was an editor at the newspapers of both schools, as well as the editor-in-chief of the magazine at LBCC. Writing, editing, page designing, photographing, videographing, video-editing, and copy-editing were just some of these things I had to do while on the Daily Titan. I posted a bunch of the things I worked on in the "Busy?" thread, but I ended up interviewing and doing stories on people like Westboro (got a picture of them I took into a university textbook), the creators of steampunk, Seth Green, Thomas Jane, Mike Mignola, Stan Sakai, this semi-famous Holocaust denier, people protesting all sorts of things, this teacher with a rare, fatal illness who climbed Everest, senators, among others. I'm obsessed with going to conventions, constantly daydreaming of traveling around more of the world, and I don't know what I want to do for the rest of my life. I spent the last couple years taking care of my now 91-year-old, Alzheimer's-suffering grandmother, and I just feel like the wind has been taken out of my sails. I've been with the same guy, Brandon, for 8 and half years. We've been living together, at my parents' house for 5 years. We're... well, we're weird. Anyway...
