Agreed. So far what HAS remained true is that Rick gets injured in a shoot-out, ends up in a coma...

Spoiler:
...wakes up to discover that the zombie apocalypse has happened, wanders to Atlanta, needs to be saved by Glenn, discovers his family is all right, and then goes into town rubbed in zombie guts to get guns.

And that's IT in terms of likenesses with the books as far as I've read. They're doing a lot more with certain characters than Kirkman did with them in the original works.

So this story was in the news yesterday.

I was watching the news a couple nights ago (it was top story, actually) when this woman in Long Beach was being interviewed for finding an abandoned baby wrapped in plastic bags behind a gas station. You know, she was just walking along the sidewalk and heard this baby crying, took it in, called the police, and tried to take care of the newborn while authorities came to take the baby away. She was being treated like she was a hero and everything, and all of the reporters were just so enamored with her.

The next day, it was revealed the baby was her granddaughter. Her 28-year-old daughter gave birth at home, not long before the police were called, and gave the baby to her to do with what she will.

I don't know how it is anywhere else, but Long Beach is PACKED with safe drop-off places for unwanted newborns. You can just leave them, no questions asked, at any fire station or hospital. Why go through all this drama? Ugh...

As much as I love Raja and Manila, if I were to gauge who won third season based on that video, I'd say it was Alexis. Bitch is fierce.

Heh, I dig everyone's choices.

Here's another one from me. First off, this is off Metallica's Load album, when they were experimenting outside of thrash metal. Secondly, I've come to find James Hetfield's voice to be very comforting (cowboys too. There's just something reassuring about the Old West and its remnants to me).

This is not my favorite Metallica song -- hell, it's not even my favorite song off of Load (that would be "Until It Sleeps"), but for some reason I've found myself listening to this song in the past when I've felt shitty.

So, "Mama Said":

EDIT: Fuck it, just for fun here's "Until It Sleeps." I also find this song comforting, especially when you analyze the lyrics. James wrote the song when he was dealing with his parents dying from cancer, so I've just torn it apart looking for symbolism. "Tear me open, make you gone" = surgery, "wash me 'til I'm clean" = radiation treatment, "until it sleeps" = cancer going into remission, etc.

My mother has been an ongoing breast cancer survivor, having had several breast lumps removed (She's actually got another one that the doctors are watching, but they're sure it's nothing).

Anyway, "Until It Sleeps," one of my absolute favorite Metallica songs:

Wow, I have questions. And I feel so shitty for not answering them sooner.

Most memorable is bit tricky, since my memory is so shitty these days and I forget a lot of details. I could easily fall back on places like Arizona or the San Francisco area since I go to those places a lot.

Hm.. I guess I'd pick Greece. I could totally cheat and say the Mediterranean, but I'll narrow it down. I've always wanted to go to Greece and I've been really happy with the few parts of it I've seen, most especially these caves we had to go through on little fishing boats. They were GORGEOUS. I mean, my camera could never do them justice. Afterward, Brandon and I went out to lunch at an ouzzerie and ate so much good food. We'd also gone to Rhodes, took donkeys up to the Acropolis at Lindos with my mom, and we all had a great time on the island overlooking the Aegean.

Hm, well, as I've gotten older I've come to realize that Indian food and I don't get along. And the one time I had what would have been construed as English curry, it was served in a pasty, and also made my stomach explode.

So it comes down to Thai and Japanese. I like both equally, really, but not when the Thai one uses coconut milk as a base. It's not that I don't like it, so much as it's just something I still haven't quite become accustomed.

So Japanese just wins by default, I guess. It's just more of a brown sauce and not filled with spices that make my stomach hate me 10 minutes later.

Well, I'm finally back from spending the week in the Mojave and Sonoran deserts.

My haul:
- 1 big piece of black cowhide
- 2 tickets to the Arizona Renaissance Faire
- 1 bag stuffed full of scrap leather
- 1 ivory-looking, hand-shaped button
- 1 bag of pecan and bacon brittle
- 1 package of prickly pear jellies
- 2 old comics from this shop in Phoenix
- 2 tanks of gas
- 1 ceramic Mexican skull

And yeah, there's been food.

The show's coming back April 1. Soooooo stoked.

I was watching one of those preview featurettes and discovered King's Landing is in Croatia and got super excited since Brandon's Yugoslavian (what's now Croatia) and has family there and we've been wanting to go visit (along with Italy and Greece since it's right in that region). Eeeeeee, someday.

It's been a couple days and I'm still wondering how this happened.

I mean, did she put the baby behind the gas station and originally intend to leave it there or did she just call and make a false report without trying to abandon it?

Was she hoping people would think she was a hero?

If anyone else is keeping up, what are your thoughts on all of the main characters squatting on Hershel's land, using up his resources (medication, food, cars, gasoline, etc), and refusing to leave?

Every time I see them in his house, I find myself screaming at the TV.

Need to make a 45-minute drive up to my evil aunt's house because she needs my grandmother's insurance card and my grandmother had gone and hid it in a box in her room here.

Why can't I just mail it?

Having a going away dinner for a friend tonight. Everyone's pissed because the hostess accidentally invited someone none of us wanted there, which also means after the get-together, we're probably going to be stuck hanging out with her for the rest of the night.

EDIT: Motherfuck... now my aunt wants me to take my grandmother back saying it's our time to take Lola and is giving some hammed up, sob story about her health. We had her for a month and it's not barely 2 weeks.

Yeah, I agree.

I just came from the hospital.

When I went to pick up my grandmother from my aunt's house she had this HUGE bruise over the top half of her face, her eye was red and purple and swollen shut with dried pus and her hair stuck in there. Her head was slumped forward, she wasn't able to swallow her spit, she was slurring words, and couldn't answer a lot of basic questions. She just looked completely out of it.

And my aunt claims she knew NOTHING about it.

I cleaned out her eye, pulled out a cold compress, and Brandon and I rushed her to the hospital while she kept nearly falling asleep and I kept asking her questions about who her children and grand children were to keep her awake and thinking.

Anyway... fuck you, Auntie Beth for not taking care of your own mother.

EDIT: Just called my mom who's still at the hospital. Apparently part of my grandmother's spine is broken.

FUCK YOU, BETH. FUCK YOU. FUCK YOU. FUCK YOU.

She kept insisting that we don't take Lola into emergency and that we should just ice her head.

FUCK YOU, BETH!!

The nurses in the ER said the bruises looked days old, like they were already healing. They then turned to me and started asking THE questions. "Is this a case of neglect?" and so on.

I told them yes, and the nurse then said to me, "I need to inform my superiors."

I mean, we're assuming she fell and broke that part of her spine herself, but WHERE THE FUCK WAS BETH TO PICK HER UP, LOOK HER OVER, AND TAKE HER IN?!

For all I know, someone got fed up with her complaining about this and that and hit her.

Sorry if I come off hysterical. It's just... how can she just ignore her own mother when she's got this huge bruise, her good eye's all fucked up, she's slurring her words, can't swallow her own spit, and is sitting in her walker almost completely limp?

I just... I don't know any more.

Whatever happens to my aunt happens. I'd rather she didn't go to jail or anything -- more that who ever's going to pass judgement on this situation just doesn't allow my aunt to take my grandmother any more.

She brought it all on herself. They've been keeping her in a dusty junk and dog shit-filled house with nearly 20 chihuahuas and they don't check on her when she cries for help, on top of absconding with all of my grandmother's money.

EDIT: Just as an unrelated fuck you.

Fuck the fact that we kept getting stuck in traffic yesterday (which is normal to a certain extent in L.A.) WAY more than usual because we kept passing movie shoots. I'm happy that people are shooting in L.A. and all since it generates in income here, but it fucking sucks sitting in traffic because they keep shutting down main streets for the shoots and people keep lookie-looing and stopping to stare.

Guys, we see this ALL the time. Move along!

The moment I saw those bruises after brushing the hair out of her face and saw the condition of her eye, I freaked and said we have to take her to the hospital. My aunt kept going, "Just put some ice on it. That's all."

I wonder how she'll feel when she finds out about the neck fracture.

She didn't call while we were in the hospital to ask how things were. Not once. And yet when my grandmother's house was broken into and several of the things stolen (mostly things Beth had earmarked to take in the future), she was calling me every 5 minutes.

I just went to ask my dad what news they heard today and the doctors think the fracture is old. Not sure how old, but when Beth tried to claim that Lola must have JUST fallen and that's where the bruise came from, it appears that was probably a lie.

I think Lola's coming home tomorrow, but I'm not sure how this is all going to work out.

Yeah, fuck colds. They suck.

Wow... that'd be like a Texan putting "'Mere!" (short for "come here") or "S'go!" (Let's go) on a shirt. Then again those don't seem as bad.

The Top 10 Words That Need to Die, Immediately

Here I thought I was the only person sick of "Bromance" and "Man-Cave." Brandon's dad uses "man-cave" way too often to talk about his room at his step-dad's place, where he's living nowadays.

Now "Foodie," I'm incredibly tired of that word since so many people on Yelp call themselves that. I only use that word to describe pretentious reviewers who think their inflated opinion is the only one that matters regarding overhyped and expensive restaurants. To me words like "foodie" and "hipster" are more insulting than anything else.
